2. Rap
We first looked at the rap genre, the target audience for this
mainstream rap artist would probably be teenagers and young adults
aged around 15-20.
The rapper is represented in a friendly he is smiling at the camera and
is not posing in a way to make himself look hard. This makes him seem
more of a mainstream character for younger audiences.
The conventions of the magazine are a large image of a person in the
centre of the magazine so fans will recognise it straight away. It also
has the conventions of cover lines and a master head and a colour
scheme which is red and white with some yellow.
3. Rock
This magazine is most likely aimed at teenagers and
young adults from around 15-22. the band are a
modern metal band who would appeal to a younger
audience.
I then looked at the kerrang magazine which is an
alternative rock and metal magazine. This follows the
conventions of a rock magazine with the dark writing
and the pictures of bands along the side with the main
picture being of band. The design is also very rough
looking which is common of a rock magazine.
The band is represented in a very serious way they are
looking at the camera with straight faces unlike in the
previous magazine where the man was smiling.
4. Pop magazine
This magazine is aimed at a younger audience which I can tell
from the brighter colours which would appeal to younger people
as it makes them look less boring. It is probably aimed at girls
aged around 11-16.
It follows the conventions of a pop magazine with the picture of
a pop star and the bright colours. It then has the bright
animated colours which are typical of a pop magazine.
The person in the main cover is represented as a very stylish
person and is made wearing unrevealing clothes as the magazine
is for children.
5. My genre
I have decided to use the rock genre as it is a genre which I am
familiar with and my target audience will be teens to young adults
aged from around 15-22. I will also use a lot of rough text with
pictures around the edges or the magazine. To get ideas I will look
other existing rock magazines and copy some of the ideas and
conventions which they use. The conventions I will follow will be
sticking to the dark themes rock magazines usually have. I will
have a dark master head with a large image of band and I will also
use a lot of rough looking text.
I will represent the characters on the front of the magazine in a dark
way like what is used with most rock magazines. I will do this using
dark costumes and other dark colours surrounding the pictures and
also black and white colour scheme with also possibly some red.
