2. I will be creating a health and fitness magazine for
mainly females ages 20 plus. My main purpose in this
magazine is to target young adults that wants to lose
weight and looking for a unique approach to weight
loos like Slimming World. I have designed an ‘ideal’
reader for the target audience which is a female that
has a gym membership and attends at least five times a
week. Their interest is seeing other people workout
plan and style for weight loss, but also trying new
healthy receipts. Their allowance is £70 that they
spend on food, home needs, magazines and personal
needs weekly.
I came up with the title ‘Cleanse’ for my magazine, as it
represents a fresh start and the theme of cleanness
within the soul of the human body. I wanted something
that will relate to my target audience and also to give
them positive motivation. This magazine will content a
range of interviews, receipts, workouts, personal
experiences, and more. The main themes are Health,
Beauty, Food and Science.
3. I have created a mood board for my magazine
to have a clear idea of the content and the
style of the magazine. This allowed me to
visualise my magazine in a collection of images
and text. For an example, in magazine show
represent cleanness and freshness and my
mood board allows to show this, because
everything is in a slot or in a grid. I wanted to
use a range of colour as each colour as its own
represented, but mainly used light tones as it
connotes happiness and lightness instead of
overcrowding all the pictures into one.
4. So, I designed range of logos to see which one will
be best. For an example, I used different like
Modern No. 20 to Poor Richard. I wanted to have
a simply design as my whole magazine represents
simples and freshness. The design below is my
final design that I decided to use in my magazine. I
think the word Cleanse can be interpreted in many
ways such as starting a new chapter in your fitness
life or creating the idea of freshness in the soul.
The font that I’m using is Modern No. 20. It is a
simple, but affect logo and name to use in my
magazine because it allows to target my audience
which likes simple and clear things. The slogan is
going to be Start fresh with Cleanse.
5. I had to create a template on InDesign by using guidelines, a
page according to your case magazine and text boxes. I had
uses 3 text boxes to replicate the layout of the advertorial
article.
Once I set up mine template for my layout on InDesign I started
to insert the text I noticed that the text was too much as it
overflowed. So I had to cut down at least 200 words from 700
words, which was quite hard but I cut my opinions and views.
After this I had to link the text boxes together in order to a flow
in my article, which made it more organised.
I had 2 main content pages which was an advertorial and
discursive and for the discursive article I had to cut 400 words
from 900 words
6. For my Photo shoot I decided to only use one
model as I wanted a simply look on my front
cover. I have used a 3 point lighting as it is a
standard lighting that allows a balance looks.
However, I did change the ratio of the lights in
some of the picture as the image below shows I
wanted to make the client’s face darker and
highlight her client t-shirt but in the end I didn’t
use this image as it didn’t suit the magazine
style. A 3 point lighting includes the key light
which is the main light used in the photo-shoot,
the fill light which has the purpose of filling in
the shadows caused by the key light and finally
the back light that allows to separate the model
from the background.
7. This is the image that I used in my front cover, but as the image that I
took was a little bit dark I used Photoshop to change the brightness
and make it look better. The picture was also suitable in my colour
scheme, which was white, black and blue tones. I believe this allow to
complete the full look of the magazine.
