7. To make my main cover line stand out more as it looks plain and boring I will make sure that I have a selling line, bold heading, and make my main cover line stand out more. For my selling line I will put it on the right hand corner. The font will be the same as my text and the colour will be white. The text will read ‘Achieve everything you want here’. To make my heading stand out more I will make a backdrop shadow. To make my main cover line appeal more I will rearrange how it looks and make some of my texts bigger . I will make the word ‘FRESH’ much bigger then the rest of the text and I will also make the word ‘start’ stand out using the same method I will use for my heading.

8. Magazine after feedback changes My new selling line My heading looks more appealing because of the black outline which is being overlapped by the pink ‘GO’. This has made a big difference to my cover and looks more attractive. This is called a backdrop shadow. I have done the same black outline to this. It hasn’t made a big difference but it stands out more then before. I have changed the layout of how my kicker looks to make it more elaborate as before it had looked plain. I also rearranged the size of ‘a FRESH’ I had made the ‘a’ smaller then usual and made the word ‘FRESH’ bigger. This is to get people’s attention to the word ‘FRESH’. This had made my cover more appealing and like a real magazine cover.

Changes I made from my magazine plan My selling line was meant to be at the left hand side underneath my masthead however as my masthead is short I decided to put in on the right hand side corner My dateline in my plan was placed on the right hand side underneath my masthead however I have placed it on the left hand side underneath my masthead. This is because I didn’t want my model to be covered. I have also changed my font and colour scheme . This is because when I had tried out the fonts I planned to do didn’t work out. This is because it didn’t stand out much and also the colours didn’t go. Other then that the layout is similar and not much was changed. I have added more text to my cover as I thought it looked plain. I have also changed the sizes as the sizes to Adobe Photoshop was different to the sizes of Microsoft word where I got a brief idea how large everything will be.

11. Evaluation For Media Studies I have been making a magazine cover for school. To do this I first had to learn the key conventions of a magazine cover so I can use it for mine. Also I had to have a brief idea about the fonts and what fonts would suit a magazine. I had also used Adobe Photoshop to have a idea on how I can use effects to create my magazine cover, such as laying a new background to the original background, making the model perfect etc. I have made my magazine cover to look like a real magazine cover by adding the key conventions such as the masthead, kicker, explanatory text, selling line and the main cover line. I have kept my colour theme to a minimum as in a real magazine cover they don't use many colours in their covers. I kept to a minimum of three colours and I kept a bright colour in order for it to stand out. I have made it clear where my cover line is and my main cover line. I have also made it clear that my magazine cover represents a particular social group as my explanatory text clearly shows it is for students leaving school. It is a school magazine and my model is dressed smartly and looks formal and happy. Also there is a repetition of 6th form in all my explanatory text which shows its for students. Also the background is of a school building which also shows its for students. It is also for different ethnic group as my model is Kosovan. The kind of media institution that might distribute my magazine cover will probably be students that have experienced 6th form and also students that are in the years below. Also as it is for that category they are good for distributing as they are representing the magazine cover. Moreover my magazine would be for schools all over the country as it is not for a specific school. It is aimed at students and they can be from any school such as QK, Greycoats, St Marylebone, Pimlico etc. The target market for my magazine cover is for students in secondary school coming to 6th form. It can also be for students that is not coming to 6th the next year but wants a brief idea of 6th form and the difference between secondary school and 6th form. This is also shown as the model is a young girl that looks like a student and the kickers also explain this. It is for any ethnic group, all sex, all class and can also be for teachers. I have attracted my target audience to my magazine cover by using a large clear image and also the font and colours used. The colours makes my cover stand out more as the bright pink clashes with the black and white. Also the font is really funky and attractive which appeals to my audience. My model is also young which relates to my target audience. In the process on constructing my cover I learnt a lot of things from the program Adobe Photoshop. I have learnt how to place a new background to the original, how to do the effect I have done on my masthead, how to take spots out and make my model flawless. I have also learnt why we use layers to do something new. I believe my magazine cover was good however needed it needed some adjustment. To do this I had asked three students to look at my magazine cover and give me feedback. Before my feedback I had thought my image was attractive and I was pleased with it. However after feedback and improving on my cover my masthead was more appealing and so was my main coverline. The feedback had made my cover more realistic and not to out of place from real magazine covers. I thought adding a outline to my masthead and my coverline made it stand out more than usual and looks professionally done.
