2. What is a music magazine?
• A music magazine is a magazine that covers a
specific music genre. They provide
entertainment, advertisement and
information about the specific genre of music.
Music magazines appeal to those who love
music. However, they have specific audiences
depending on what genre of music the
magazine is about.

3. What content would you expect to find
in a music magazine?
Inside a music magazine there are many types of content to
make the magazine interesting.
For example, you would find, reviews on songs, albums and
concerts etc. you will also find, interviews for entertainment,
tour dates for information, and posters for entertainment.

4. What images would you expect to find
inside in a music magazine?
• Typical images you would find inside a magazine are as
follows;
• Pictures of the artists or bands
• Upcoming events (festivals and tours)
• behind the scenes (recording in the studio)
• Merchandise
• Brand identity – many music magazines follow formats
that the audience can relate to. For example the rolling
stones always wear White tops and Black jeans. This
makes it easier for the audience to recognise the band.

would expect to find in music
magazines.
• General features of a music magazine are:
• Main image – which is usually a celebrity for
celebrity endorsement
• Colloquial language is used to relate to the
audience.
• The cost ranges from £2.50 – 4.50

6. Identify the features these 4
magazines all have?
• Each magazine cover has a popular artists /
band as the main image to entice the
audience.
• All have a bold masthead so the title can be
seen
• All have cover lines
• All have colour themes

7. Why are these features important?
• These features are typical conventions of a
magazine. Therefore its what the audience
look for in a typical magazine.
• Also they give the magazine a layout and
format.

8. Identifying the genre of music
magazines
• The music genre of ‘Kerrang’ is rock. The black
colour theme gives a gothic feel to the magazine.
The font of the mast head is edgy and aggressive
as it looks like its been hit which again gives a
gothic feel.
• Lastly, the magazine includes artists who create
music of the rock genre.
• The audience would be 16 plus and of both
genders. The front cover seems more masculine
but it would appeal to both.
