The document discusses how the media product conforms to conventions of real magazines. It summarizes:
1) The front cover uses conventional design elements like straplines, fonts, and issue information. The headline stands out against a light background using a bold, urban style font.
2) The mise-en-scene features an original photo of a model against a brick wall, representing the urban RnB genre. His dominant pose and high-end clothing also relate to genre conventions.
3) Inside pages continue the brick background theme. The contents page lists articles and social media links to engage readers. Text is written informally to relate to the target audience.
3. Front Cover
One aspect of the front cover which is conventional; is the straplines in which I have used. I have used 4 straplines which
are some what detailed . I have used these as they are able to stand out to the audience eon the main page to tell the
audience what the magazine will include. The strapline relate to the genre as it enables the audience to know who will be
included in the magazine i.e. ‘Ty Dolla $ign’ or what will be included. The first strapline on the left of the cover is the most
important and is rightly listed at the top as it is the main article on the double page spread. In terms of the font I have used
big and bold lettering with a some what edgy look to it. I have used a black stroke around white writing to allow the text to
stand out further as it is outlined with a darker colour, on a lighter one. I have also included a baseline which is also
convectional. On here I included the magazines barcode, issue data and issue number to make the magazine more
professional.

4. Headline
• Throughout my magazine I have stuck to many of the conventions . I was able to follow these conventions well and
professionally by creating my pages using Adobe Photoshop as its extremely handy and can manipulate images etc. in ways
which other programs cant. One of the main conventions for magazines I have followed is in my headline. I used the DaFont
to get my headline font. I feel that the font I have used is able to portray my genre well as the font is some what of an urban
style, in a way that it relates to graffiti style writing and is bold making it stand out like street art would. This links to my
genre well as its able to show RnB for what it is, an underground, street type of music, like the font portrays. Furthermore,I
put my headline on a light background where the text is dark and big but also bold. The reason for this is because I want the
text from the headline to stand out the most in the front cover so that the audience is able to immediately know the name
of the magazine and are then able to further do so in the future as its clear to the eye due to the contrast between the
background and text colour. The reason this is conventional as usually on magazines the titles are the boldest and biggest
piece of text on the cover. This is so that the audience is able to see the name clearly and are then able to recognise In the
future, like I have on my own for example.

5. Mise-En-Scene
• When looking at my Mise-En-Scene , the costume and the setting , they're significant when following and conforming to the conventions. First of all
my main image and background on my front cover is original. I have np photo shopped my model onto the background meaning the my model was at
that location and the photo was shot there. My background shot conforms to conventions of magazines as the background is linked to the genre and
overall meaning of the magazine. My background is a wall of bricks. The reason I shot my background here is because the model is able to stand
against it to represent the genre of RnB. RnB is an underground/urban type of music and is usually associated with the streets and I felt as thought
the brick wall portrayed this well since it’s a common scenery/set you would expect to see for this genre and also in music videos for this genre.
Furthermore, my model. My model was positioned in a way against the brick wall so that the wall was behind to show that it’s the background of the
artist itself, not just the magazine. This is to show not just the genre style but the artists background too as the wall shows his RnB style since its from
where he would be from as one of those types of artists. The way in which the model is standing is able to portray dominance as a strong individual
with the crossing of the arms looking masculine and strongly toward the camera. The reason this was done was to link it correctly to the genre as the
genres artists are usually dominant looking and acting as they have the flash cars, the clothing, the houses and the money therefore are presented as
more dominant and important, like my model has been . Lastly, the clothing. The model is wearing clothing which I felt related to the genre quite
well. The clothing is casual ( Jeans, jacket, watch etc.) but the clothing is co ordinated in terms of the colour and the branding is of high standard. The
reason for this is to relate to the genre since the artists within RnB have the big brands and like to flaunt them, included on my model , the watch and
how it stands out and is shown clearly to show wealth.

6. Contents Page
• The mise en also continues on the cover page from the front cover. The background of the bricks and the main artist is still shown. This is to continue
the theme of the magazine and to not change anything from what we expect of the genre i.e. the location or the clothing.
• It is vital when conforming to conventions to ensure the contents page uses small teasers with information allowing the reader to know what the
inside is about or what the articles will entail. I have done this with small subtitles to link each article into categories later using titles to other articles
to allow these teasers with extra text saying what the article is about. To enable my magazine to connect with the audience I have located on the
bottom left the three major social media links. The reason for this is that I feel the contents page is the most audience directing page. The page is
about showing you the audience what the magazine is about that's why its appropriate for the social media here as its reaching out to you to connect
with the genre/magazine. Also using social media is an advantage as most of the target audience is in the ages where social media and online activity
is dominant over paper based. The title 'Contents’ is not as big as on the front cover. The reason for this is because it is not as important as the front
covers titles, its less important and is sized smaller to show this.

7. Double page spread
• I created my double page spread on InDesign. The main conventions for these pages is the way the text is written and the
way the text has been styled. I have focused my magazines text here on the genres realism. By this I mean I used language in
which is relatable to the genre, this is usually very informal , the reason is that the target audience would be able to relater
and understand as they used this language themselves as its common within RnB. I allowed this type of language as my
artist is a direct example of the target audience and will use that language which is why I didn’t censored any words which
are seen as informal as its directly relatable to the genre. I have kept to conventions by allowing the text to go from left to
right and the gradient of the background follows this too. The reason for this is that your eye line goes from right to left
therefore making it easier to read but also allowing the magazine to follow conventions. The colour of this page sticks with
the theme and carry's on the blue and white effect both from the contents and front cover to allow the scheme to continue
throughout the whole magazine.
