Day 5
A: Analyze the Learners
This is a class of twenty high school seniors. Twelve of them are Caucasian, and eight of them
are African American. None of them have learning or physical disabilities. Three of them have
ADHD.
S: State Objectives
For the final day of our Shakespeare studies, I want to try and tie some real-world technology in
with Shakespeare, keeping up with the “Is Shakespeare relevant” theme. After they have studied
his life, sonnets, and one of his plays, students can enjoy some of his work stress-free and learn a
little more about his world. So, the first thing I will do is recreate the Globe Theatre, where
Shakespeare’s plays were originally performed, in Secondlife. I will show students on the
smartboard and they will make accounts as well to join me there. Second, students will follow
the twitter handle @Shakespeare_IQ, which tweets multiple Shakespeare quotes a day. Thirdly,
students will create a Pinterest account and use it to pin at least ten things about Shakespeare.
S: Select the 3 M’s (Method, Media, Materials)
Most of this work will be done amongst the students, so I will just make sure they have the
materials they need. The media will be Secondlife, Twitter, and Pinterest. All they will need is a
computer.
U: Utilize Media and Materials
2. The students will be receiving the benefit of the media and materials. They will experience a
different worl within Secondlife, and then use familiar tools, like social networking, to get a
better grasp on Shakespeare. I would prepare the materials and ideas, then teach it. The students
listen, participate, and learn.
R: Require Learner Participation
The students will participate in Secondlife, twitter, and pinterest.
E: Evaluate and Revise
My evaluation for this lesson will be based on the completion of the activities listed above, as
well as a short, one-page paper detailing what they liked and did not like about the unit, as well
as the most interesting thing they learned.
