Day One: Abstract vs. Realism
I. Analyze Learners: In my class, there are twenty students in my eleventh grade class
(eleven of whom are girls, and the other nine are boys). In addition, there are two students
with a learning disability. With all of the disabilities in my classroom, I will incorporate a lot of
hands on projects to go with the lectures in the class room. Allowing my students to learn by
images from Pinterest.
II. State Objectives: My eleventh grade students will be able to identify and describe the
difference between abstract and realistic artwork. They will do this by working on hands on
crafts making different abstract pieces of work, and looking at images of abstract art and
realism art on Pinterest by the end of class with 95% accuracy.
III. Selecting Methods, Materials, and Media: In order to accommodate for the various
learning disabilities, I will utilize the following methods, media, and materials throughout this
lesson:
i) Images of Abstract: I will use the smart board throughout this lesson
to show images off of my own person Pinterest account, of Jackson
Pollocks abstract pieces of art.
ii) Images of Realism: In this section of the lesson, students will see
images from my Pinterest of historical Realism art in compared to
Jackson Pollocks works.
iii) Hands on Art: Students will create works of art on canvases provided
to them, the art will tie together with the form of Jackson Pollock.

2. IV. Utilizing Methods and Materials: Prior to each class, I will check that all the art
supplies is laid out and ready to go (such as: paint brushes, paint, canvases, images,
etc), along with the smart board Pinterest set up and loaded and ready to show. I will
also set up the students chairs and tables to where they can work in groups for the art
projects.
V. Require Learner Participation: In order to introduce this lesson, I will inform the
students of each form of art, Abstract referring to Jackson Pollock and Realism art
referring to historical pieces of art work. The first day I will have images from my
Pinterest account to provide visual aids to the class of Abstract art and Realism art. At
the end of the class, students will write down on a piece of paper two pieces of art work
that inspired them, one from abstract and the other from realism.
VI. Evaluate and Revise: In order to assess student comprehension, I will:
• Stimulate class discussion
• have a question to be answered of what they learned from class.
• Circulate around the room to check that all students are being involved in
hands on activities.
• Ask students what are the differences in abstract and realism art.
