This document provides a unit plan for teaching about Anne Frank's diary to a 6th grade English class. It analyzes the learners, who include 21 students with some having ADHD, visual impairments, or Asperger's syndrome. The main objective is for 95% of students to understand Anne Frank's story over 5 days. Each day includes activities like class discussions, videos, a webquest, robotics, and journaling to utilize visual, verbal, hands-on, and interpersonal learning styles and introduce technology like blogs and podcasts.

2. Analyze The Learner:
General Education 6th grade English class.
13 girls, 8 boys.
2 students with mild ADHD, 3 students with visual
impairments, and one student with Asperger’s
Syndrome.
The class has little to no background knowledge on
the Holocaust.
Learning styles utilized in the unit plan: visual, verbal,
hands-on, and interpersonal.
3. Main Objective:
Every student will discover the story of Anne
Frank and relate to the historical context of her
story. There will be a 95% accuracy level over a
5 day period.
4. Day By Day Breakdown:
Day 1 – Class discussion (post finishing the book) on the story of Anne Frank; view
PowerPoint with images regarding Anne Frank, her family, and the Holocaust time frame.
Have students begin their first personal journal entry. Implement blog and Voki into the
first day. Students will be introduced to the Anne Frank Unit Plan Twitter and Facebook
account.
Day 2 – Watch pre-selected clips of PBS’ version of The Diary of Anne Frank; Students
will continue writing in their journal (last ten minutes of class).
Day 3 –Students will participate in an interactive Webquest; Students will continue writing
in their journal (last ten minutes of class). Students assigned to listen to Podcast for
homework.
Day 4 – Robotics activity in correlation with Anne Frank discussion; Use of photoshop to
compare World War 2/Holocaust images; Students will continue writing in their journal
(last ten minutes of class). Anne Frank blog/reflective questions will be for homework.
Day 5 – Continuation with robotics activity; Students will present/read to the class one of
their journal entries and what part of the week most impacted their understanding of The
Diary of Anne Frank.
