1. Monday ASSURE
A-Analyze the learner:
I will be teaching a 5th grade class in a public school of 22 students: 13 girls and 9
boys. 90% of the class are White, 8% are African American, and 2% are Latino.
Overall, these children come low/middle income families, and are between the ages
of 10 and 11 years old.
S-State Objectives:
My fifth grade students will identify the major events at the start of the Holocaust
after viewing a couple different informational posters, doing a Webquest
assignment, reading a blog post, interacting with voki’s, as a group viewing material
from pinterest, and creating a poster by the end of the day with 100% by the end of
the day.
S-Select methods, media, and materials:
In an effort to appeal to all types of learners, I will be employing a variety of media
and materials throughout the lesson.
ď‚· Poster: First, I will show the class a poster with some interesting facts about
the Holocaust as a way of introducing them to the topic.
ď‚· Photoshop: I will then show them an image created on Photoshop to give
them a better perspective on some important parts of understanding the
Holocaust.
ď‚· Webquest: The students will be instructed to complete a webquest about
what the Holocaust was and important events and places.
ď‚· Blog: I will use a blog dedicated fully to the Holocaust in order to introduce
my class to the major event of the Holocaust known as Kristallnacht.
ď‚· Voki: Following the use of the blog and webquest, I will show the students a
Voki that asks a question about Kristallnacht.
ď‚· Computer lab: I will reserve the computer lab where the students will
be able to access the webquest and to work together on the webquest.
2. U-Utilize Media and Materials:
Prior to the beginning class, I will display the two posters on the board in an area
where I’m sure that all students will be able to see them properly. I will ensure that
the webquest is age appropriate and that all of the links function properly.
Additionally, I will ensure that the blog is appropriate for use in my classroom and
does not have any inappropriate ads. For the use of the Voki, I will make sure that
the voki is functioning properly before my students come into the classroom.
Finally, I will make sure I have the computer lab reserved to provide the class with
their own computer for the webquest.
R-Require Learner Participation:
To begin my class, I will display a poster in the front of the room with image of
important images of the Holocaust, and will then stimulate the class by asking
questions like: Who is this man? Does anyone know what this is a symbol of? Who
were these men? What are these things all associated with?. I will then explain each
of the images and their significance in the Holocaust as a way to introduce our unit.
After the first poster, I will display another poster with some important Holocaust
Facts to give a brief overview of important information about the Holocaust. I will
then split the class into small groups that they will be working with to complete the
webquest group task. Next, I will take the students to the computer lab and provide
them with the link to the webquest they will be completing. The students will be
given class time on Monday and Tuesday to complete their group task assigned in
the webquest. After leaving the computer lab, I will use the class SmartBoard to
display a Holocaust blog that I will read and discuss with the students. Finally, I will
display a Voki I created that will ask the students a question associated with the
blog topic.
Evaluate and Revise:
To evaluate the students’ comprehension of our Holocaust introduction I will do a
variety of things. These include:
 Stimulating the students’ thoughts and participation in class discussion.
ď‚· Walk around the computer lab while the students are working on their
research for the webquest project.
ď‚· Ensure that the students are involved with the group project at the end of the
webquest and each person is doing their part.
ď‚· Have students answer the question inquired from Voki and submit them at
the end of class.
3.  The students’ knowledge will also be assessed when their webquest project
is completed and presented on Tuesday.
