Teenage Drinking
While exploring the problem and symptoms of teenage drinking. It was determined that drinking was one of the many causing factors in which we
came across when it came to teenage pregnancies. Of course teenage pregnancy must be looked at on a case–by–case basis. It was found that there are
multiple causes, symptoms that can take place in the youth daily lives to create the environment conducive to the problem. Some of the events that
take place are things like skipping school or dropping out of school. Emotional stress is another factor affecting the youth who are getting pregnant
because the youth are not receiving the proper support at home, many feel no one cares. Becoming a struggling teen parent has caused many teens to
suffer from depression. Another issue that arises from teenagers becoming parents has been the effect it has had on the social and economic cost of our
society due to high birth rates. The fact that most teenagers have no social or economic means to sufficiently sustain themselves and a child. The study
further claims that the minorities, Latinos and Blacks have had a higher risk of teen pregnancy thereby costing taxpayers billions. The CDC states
"only about 50% of teen mothers receive a high school diploma by 22 years of age, versus approximately 90% of women who had not given ... Show

Studies have shown that many teens are being pressured by other teens to engage in encounters they would otherwise engage in. This accompanied by
the fact that many schools and states no longer require sexual education classes in schools has made for uninformed youth to commit mistakes they
later learn are not so easy to deal with. The youth who are involving themselves in risky sexual behaviors are not taking into account the risk they are
taking every time they are having unprotected sex. It is estimated that their friends are influencing about 43% of the youth having sex. (CDC,

The Effects of Teenage Pregnancy
Pregnancy is beautiful; however, for a teenager it can be a philosophical event with long term implications. Wall–Wieler stated that, "Teenage pregnancy
is having at least one pregnancy between the ages of 14 and 19 (inclusive)" (4). Such a situation for teenagers comes with many obstacles. Adolescence
would lose the opportunity to fully enjoy their teen years. This is a once in a lifetime experience, which would be cut short because of engaging in
adult activities. There is also the possibility of frustration, depression and confusion because the situation might be too much to handle. In most cases,
teen pregnancy will have a negative effect on the pregnant teen because it will force them to be fully committed to the concerns and needs of the child
while neglecting their own.
In the same fashion, teen mothers would face the challenge of changing their life style to accompany a child. Some teenagers will miss out on their
education; this could mean not going to school or potentially dropping out of school permanently to take care of their baby. According to Huffman,
"Only 32 percent of teen mothers have graduated from high school–that is, have received a regular high school diploma–by age 30, compared with over
84 percent of women who delay motherhood. This figure is not surprising; the presence of a young child makes it very difficult for teen mothers to
continue their education" (56). When a child drops out of school they are prone to

Children of Teenage Parents
The topic that was researched is the effects on children born to teenage parents. This topic will be explained and evaluated by examining how support
plays a role in the wellbeing of the child and mother. Many would say that having a child is a blessing, but not when you have a child at a young age.
Teen pregnancy/motherhood have been greatly seen as an issue in society.
"Research suggests that many associate teen mothers with welfare dependency, irresponsibility, stupidity, ignorance, laziness, child abuse,... Show more

These themes will be explained and support will be examined to see the effects on children born to teenage parents.
Research have shown that childbearing during the teen years is a both a result and cause of poverty (Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy
[SCAA], 2008). The SCAA states that the same complicated set of socio– economic factors that puts teenagers at risk of child– bearing also contributes
to the reality that teen parents continue to live in poverty (2008). According to research, "A greater proportion of young women who are poor
become sexually active as adolescents, do not use a contraceptive method at first intercourse and give birth by age 20" (SCAA, 2008). The poverty
rate for children born to teen mothers are high. These teenage mothers usually have less education and barely any support. They don't allow their
children to be involved in early learning, rather they use parental care or other noncentre care which lowered school readiness (Mollborn & Blalock,
2012). In another study presented, teen mothers who have support and are educated on child development tend to engage their children in centre care
(Mollborn & Blalock, 2012). The research states that child care is an important arena of socialization that affects children's development, thus many
poor children and children who are members of racial/ethnic minority groups, two categories into which teen parents' children disproportionately fall,

Teenage Pregnancy
I. Introduction
Teenage pregnancy is one of the major problem that the world is facing today. Early pregnancy or teenage pregnancy is dangerous to teenage girls'
health because it may cause cervical cancer, aids, and eventually death. Teenage pregnancies are often associated with an increased rate of delinquent
behaviors including alcohol and substance abuse. To begin with, majority of them belong to the low income group. To prevent this dilemma, there are
some preventions that can reduce the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy. Firstly, parents must keep them at home with an intact family set–up,
secondly, they must keep them at school, third, keep talking to them, and lastly, they must keep them morally and... Show more content on

The best way to avoid teen pregnancy is by avoiding or abstaining from sex before marriage.
III. Body
Teenage pregnancy is a widespread issue in the Philippines, especially amongst the poor and it is an obvious rising issue in our society. Teachingsex
education in schools can at least reduce the rising rate of teenage pregnancy. Sex education aims to reduce the risks of potentially negative outcomes
from sexual behavior such as unplanned pregnancy and infection with sexually transmitted disease including HIV. Comprehensive Sexuality Education
and the Abstinence–Only–Until–Marriage are the two different types of sex education classes. The program that starts in kindergarten and finishes up to
high school is the Comprehensive Sexuality Education that tackles the appropriate sexuality topics, safe sex, STDs, contraceptives and more. On the
other hand, the Abstinence–Only–Until–Marriage focuses on all sexual behaviors and it doesn't tackle the information of contraceptives, STDs and
more. Sex education should also be taught at home. As parents they provide sex education for their children. Each mother and father should teach their
children about sex through attitudes, behavior and verbal comments. To be a good parent is a very difficult job, they need to make an effort to allow to
talk about sex to enter normally in conversation. One way they can help with this is through honest and meaningful

Difficulties for Teenage Mothers
The problems of early teenage mothers are irrefutable. Some factors that are seen to contribute to teenage pregnancy are educational failure, poverty,
unemployment and low self–esteem these are understood to be the results of a negative outcome of an early childhood. For example, recent studies
suggest that most adolescent mothers had already made the decision to leave school before they had become pregnant. On the other hand, adolescents
still in school when they give birth are as likely to graduate the same as their peers. It is not clear how well the adolescents with the most problems
would have fared in the future even without early parenthood.
Some of the contributing factors or causes of teenage pregnancy can be a Lack of Parental Guidance, some parents avoid talking to their children
about sex, as well as this in some cases they may have supplied false information regarding sex to try and discourage their children to participate in
any explanatory discussion about sex. In some cases, teenage mothers are not well educated about sex before getting pregnant and thus this leads to
lack of communication between the parents and the children and in addition little understanding of the subject as a whole. Another contributing factor
can be adolescent sexual behavior, among adolescents; peer pressure is a major factor that urges teenage boys and girls to take part in sexual
activities. Early dating, in as early as 12 years of age can be another factor, which may contribute

Teenage Mothers Stereotypes
Teenage mothers face many stereotypes and misconceptions, and based on this, the image people might have about teen moms are that young mothers
are irresponsible, without a future, and bad mothers. Stereotypes are an elegant way in which people generalize a group with few details without
knowing them deeply. On the other hand; misconceptions or misunderstandings is the erroneous view or opinion on something because it is based on
faulty thinking or understanding. In addition; the main negative thing about stereotypes and misconceptions is that prejudge people. Teenagers who
became single mothers are more vulnerable to be exposed to judgements because of the bad decisions they took in their lives. Single mothers are people
who took the decision to raise their children without the need of about father figure. Nevertheless; teenage mothers face discrimination and judgment...

Since, stereotypes are based on something true that justified and reinforced them to prevail. Stereotypes generalize a group of people like if everyone
were or behave in the same way. For this reason, many stereotypes or most of them are full of prejudgments. A good example is when people use the
stereotype of "The men are jealous" because it talks about men like if every man and each one were the same. Moreover; there are different types of
stereotypes such as gender, culture, religion, social groups, believes, etc. The stereotype more known or most common to identify gender stereotype,

Teenage Pregnancy : The Causes Of Teenage Birth Rates
Teenage Mother Three out of ten adolescent young ladies will end up getting pregnant before the age of twenty. That is rounded to about seven hundred
and fifty thousand high school pregnancies consistently occurring. Over half of the teenage mothers to be, never finish secondary school. Planned
Parenthood determined that eighty two percent of teenage pregnancies are not thought out nor planned for. Contrasted with the adolescent birth rates in
other created nations, America's are the most elevated: twice as high as Australia's and Canada's, three times as high as France's, three and a half
circumstances as high as Germany's, six times as high as the Netherlands', and seven times as high as Japan's.
Teenage mothers have less of a chance to marry the father of their offspring. The national conference of state legislature tells us that roughly about
twenty percent of teenage mothers marry the father of their child. About twenty five percent of teenage mothers have another child after about
twenty–four months of having their first child. That would make it extremely hard to attend college or even finish high school. No more than two
percent earn a college degree before the age of thirty!
Not many mothers have the love and support that is very much needed to help raise a baby at such a young age. Young mothers need help, they're
young themselves they don't know the responsibility that comes with a baby. They might think that their life is over. Or that they won't have any

The Issue Of Teenage Pregnancy
Introduction:
Teenage pregnancy is a hot–button issue in the United States that has lured the attention of citizens for many years. Since its peak in 1990, teen
pregnancy has declined significantly, but is still held as the center for much controversy, especially with recent reality television shows that many claim
are "glorifying" teenage pregnancy (The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, 2014; Henson, 2011). Although numbers of
pregnant teens are down, certain areas continue to struggle with this issue, and are seeking new ways to get the message across. This case study
focuses on a series of print and transportation advertisements that were distributed in Milwaukee and Chicago from approximately 2009 through 2013
(Murray, 2013). The following study also showcases the stigmas surrounding the ads and links relevant coursework from chapters two, three, and four
via the campaign's choice of tactics.
Overview of Case:
The key elements of this case study is the primary method of delivery (public transportation), use of visual metaphor (showing a pregnant teen as
male), and use of shock tactics. In the most recent case, the persuader is the City of Chicago and the Chicago Department of Health (Murray, 2013).
They are trying to show the importance of teen pregnancy awareness through an alarming (and medically impossible) metaphor, attempting to persuade
its audience to become aware of this issue and to do something about it, whether it be teens practicing

Being a Teenage Mother : The Stressing and Difficulties with a baby "Being pregnant as a teenager at the age of 15 has been difficult for me ever
since. At the age of 21, I am just now finishing high school at CPCC and I also have a son who is now at the age of 6. It hasn't been all easy. I have
to balance my time with my job and child. I have faced so many difficulties with me and my son's life." says my cousin Alejandra. Teenpregnancy is
difficult for girls because Childbearing can be painful for teenage girls, Single parenting can bring in unnecessary stress to the job of raising
children, and it can bring unnecessary economic/financial issues when having a baby. Teen pregnancy is difficult for girls because of the pain.
Teenage girls go through so much pain when comes to childbearing, the carrying of a baby. Teenagers have a higher chance of getting an illness or
pain during pregnancy, according to Denise Mann from WebMD. Teenagers are at a higher risk of a dangerous medical condition called
Preeclampsia, which is the result of high blood pressure. "Preeclampsia is a serious condition that develops during pregnancy and is potentially fatal."
(Mann,1). This means the teenage mother is at risk of this condition and there a lot more out there that can harm her. With this being the reason of her
putting herself in a position of carrying a baby it exposes her to more pain or conditions which can lead into any pregnancy complications. It can be

Teenage Pregnancy And Effect On Teenage Mothers
There are differing stigmas of teenage pregnancy, which can affect teenage mothers. Teenage mothers face the risk of not being accepted by their peers
and community. Acquiring a position in society, that is often the subject of negative criticism and judgment, can profoundly impact teenage mothers
(Luttrell, 2014). This research paper will analyze teenage pregnancy stigmas and how they can impact young mothers. This paper will include a
literature review, analyzing adolescent sexuality and behavior, teenage pregnancy and motherhood and perceptions of teenage pregnancy. Lastly,
recommendations for future practice will be discussed.
Background
The Australian teenage fertility rates, have been on the decline for many years. In 2014, there was approximately 9,204 teenagers giving birth in
Australia (ABS, 2014). In 2006, in South Australia alone, 982 women aged 15 to 19 had abortions (ABS, 2014). These kinds of statistics, mean there is
still a large amount of teenage mothers that require support and assistance. This paper will look at making recommendations in practice and service
development. The paper includes: examining statistical information and reviewing literature and research.

In some cases a young girl getting pregnant while still living at home and attending school may result in her getting thrown out of her home , which
makes it even more complicated to attend classes. After having a child the mother is usually given six weeks for recovery and to spend time with the
mother. The time missed by the student may result to failure of classes or getting behind. This is when most teens decide to not come back to
school because they figure it is more of a hassle and simply do not know what to do. There are some high schools that have day cares located
inside the school, but not all. It is a struggle for teens to put their child in day care, especially if they cannot find a job that will work around the
school schedule and spending time with the baby. The government does provide assistance in child care but they do not pay for the whole thing. It
was recently reported by CBS 2 News that Chicago's South Side Paul Robenson High School has 115 girls who are pregnant out of 800 girls who
attend the school (Roush, 2009). According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics, teen pregnancy is not just local problem and
birth rates have been rising during the past few years after more than a decade of decline (Roush, 2009). Soo Ji Min, executive director of the Illinois

Some of the issues with changing the health behavior is that often there is bias in teaching an 'abstinence only' for of sex education. When in reality, in
order to change the behavior, health educators need to have a comprehensive form of education. The negative outcomes of teenage pregnancy should
also be addressed. The fact that the incidence of syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia are extremely high in the US when compared to 16 other
developed countries (Kohler, Manhart, & Lafferty, 2008, p. 344) shows the necessity for teaching about safe sex practices. Educating potential teenage
mothers of the long term effects of pregnancy and child birth should be the top priority. Low High School completion rates, a lack of job and education
opportunities should be the focus for educating the teenage population on what's at stake. The drive for health education should be the catalyst for a
change in the health behavior.
If at–risk teens are going to make the conscious decision to be sexually active, then there needs to be open an honest conversation about safe sex and
pregnancy prevention. All too often conversations about safe sex practices seem taboo and are glossed over or avoided. Health educators need to hit
this head on to help mitigate this health behavior. The benefit of contraceptive uses and the impact on teenage pregnancy needs to be addressed.

Teenage Sex
One of the world's biggest problems in today's society is teenage sex. United States has the highest pregnancy, abortion and child birth among teenagers.
The biggest reason for this is because children grow up with the media promoting sex. Movies, music and magazines send the message that sex is okay
and often expected. Teenagers don't fully understand the consequences that can arise from there decisions. The national campaign to prevent teen
pregnancy has done a lot of studies and found about twenty percent of adolescents will have sexual intercourse before there fifteenth birthday and one
in seven sexually active fourteen year olds will become pregnant. It has also been a concern that sexually active teenagers are far more likely to ... Show

The next biggest thing next to sexual intercourse is oral sex. Oral sex is defined as mouth to genitalia. Most teens don't view oral sex as sex so the
statistics are outrageous. Slightly more than half of American teenagers ages 15 to 19 have engaged in oral sex, with females and males reporting
similar levels of experience, according to the most comprehensive national survey of sexual behaviors ever released by the federal government. Our
media, educators, and peers need to make things better so these statistics go down. It is unbelievable how high they have gotten recently. The place to
start would be the school. We need to make our education about sex a lot more in depth. That way there is no confusion to the students.

The Problem Of Teenage Pregnancy
Introduction
Billions of dollars are spent annually to address consequences facing teens that are sexually active (Carlson & Tanner 2006). Yet forty percent of all
women will become pregnant before the age of twenty and only half of them will actually deliver the baby (Kirby 2007). Out of that 20%, 82% of
those pregnancies were unintended (Kirby 2007). Teenaged parents are more likely to drop out of high school, will not go to college, and the mother
more than likely becomes a single parent (Kirby 2007). Children who are born to teenage parents are more likely to have a less supportive and less
stimulating home environment, lower cognitive development, behavioral problems, and will most likely have a child when they are a teenager (Kirby
2007). Though there are some exceptions, this becomes a never ending cycle for these teenagers from generation to generation.
Most people begin to have sex in their teenaged years (Carlson & Tanner 2006). Out of all industrialized nations, the United States has the highest
teenage pregnancy and birth rate (Gibson 2010). Educating youth about sex is very essential to not only preventing STDs, STIs, and HIV but also in
preventing unwanted teenage pregnancies (Gibson 2010). Many teenagers are engaging in sexual activity beginning as early as 6th grade (Somers &
Surmann 2005). Many teenagers do not carefully or consistently use a contraceptive which increases their chances of becoming pregnant (Kirby 2007).

The Predicament of Teenage Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy is a worldwide controversy that has become a major predicament in the society that we live in today. Each year, almost half of all
pregnancies among American women are not intended. The lack of sex education in schools may be the cause of why teen pregnancy is at an uprise.
Young women try to find solutions to stoppregnancy, birth control is one form of preventing pregnancy. Other people choose to get an abortion. Sex
education classes in high school can also help and inform teens about STD's and HIV/AIDS. The history of sex education and its controversy
began in the U.S. It began as early as 1912. The National Education Association put teachers in training programs for sex education. Some people
saw this as unnecessary and thought that this did not have to be taught in school's. In 1960 to about 1980, sex education programs were described as
the Christian Crusade. "Sex education programs in public schools proliferated, in large part due to newly emerging evidence that such programs
didn't promote sex but in fact helped delay sexual activity and reduce teen pregnancy rates" (Pardini,Priscilla). Many teen's in America get the
education they need about sex, but they are not aware of the consequences of having a child at an early age. Teen pregnancy can be prevented by using
a condom or birth control. When these products fail, teens are not sure on what to do with the baby. Some solutions

Prevention of Teenage Pregnancy
Becoming a parent can be a challenging situation even for the most prepared. However, if you are a teenager, it can be the biggest challenge of
young adolescent life. Teen pregnancy can affect one physically, emotionally, as well as financially. The stress and pressure that comes with finding
out your pregnant can be devastating. From finding the right words to tell your parents to finding ways to pay for the cost of having your baby and
the ultimate pressure figuring out how to raise your baby while trying to balance your teenage life. A pregnant teen will have to come to terms with
that their lives will never be the same. Nor will the lives of all those closely related to them such as their parents. The only hope of preventing teen
pregnancy is through the education of teenagers from parents and educators. Informing the adolescent of the repercussions will help prevent teen
pregnancy because there is a lack of knowledge on responsibilities and commitment of taking care of an infant. The importance of sex education as well
as parent involvement in demonstrating the use of effective contraceptives such as condoms or birth control can tremendously decrease the rates of
teen pregnancy.
Teen pregnancy is becoming very prevalent in this country and many teens don 't realize the consequences of having unprotected sex. Even though
statistics show that teen pregnancy rates "have declined remarkably since 1991" (Santelli et al, 2006, p. 106). This is

The Importance Of Teenage Pregnancy
Over the past decade, teenage pregnancy has increased to eye–opening numbers. In 2015, the United States had over 200,000 girls that gave birth
between the age of 15–19(CDC). Without question, this alarming statistic makes one realize that some females are skipping their young teenage years
and moving toward parenthood. Unfortunately, one drawback in the United States is that these unplanned pregnancies have forced some young
mothers to drop out of high school. Subsequently, this results in not only a life changing experience, but also a difficult road ahead to earn their high
school equivalency. Even if some mothers go back to school, their lives are changed dramatically. In addition to that, the families are indirectly
affected by teenage pregnancies too. There many emotions that go through the parents of a teenage mother. Some of these emotions include
resentment, anger and embarrassment. As a result, some parents will let their anger get the best of them and kick their children out of their home,
while some will feel the stress of helping their child raise a baby. Parents can feel overwhelmed that it can lead them to depression because they feel
they failed to bring their child up properly. Next, is teenage pregnancies are becoming more present and sometimes these incidents can just be
prevented with contraception (HHS). In fact, many girls should have this talk with their parents because it is available and will help the girls avoid

Poor teen–parent relationship cause's failure of teenagers in adolescence
Adolescence is a difficult time for both parents and the teenagers. And the pressure can be overwhelming. Due to poor teen–parent relationship

and helps a fellow classmate "break into a freshman's locker." In addition, he goes off school grounds and upon his return a teacher can smell beer
on his breath. He thinks that school "it's like a prison." Even though his parents try to understand that his behavior is "part of being fifteen" he still
has "a low opinion of his parents." When his parents try to discipline him, Donny's response is: "For God's sake! Don't you trust me?" He thinks that
his parents are too 'controlling' and goes into an evasive behavior. Comparably, in Where Are You Going Where Have You Been, Oates shows a

Why is it important to understand how adverse childhood experiences create risk factors that can impact teenage pregnancy? The answer is
multifaceted and complex, but an important consequence of teenage pregnancy is to the baby itself. Children of teenage mothers have more health
issues, are more likely to be abused, be less educated, and more likely to become criminals (Hillis, et al., 2004, p. 2). Moreover, because teenage
mothers are poorer and have less emotional support, children of teenage mothers are more likely to be abused both physically and emotionally

1610). However, Widom and Kuhns observed that there is no correlation between physical abuse and teenage pregnancies (p. 1609).
Men that witnessed maternal battery as children also have an increased risk of impregnating a teenage girl. Men that grew up witnessing constant
abuse against their mother are twice as prone to getting a teenage girl pregnant as men that did not witness maternal abuse (Rosenberg, 2001, p. 184).
Overall, when men grew up in households where there was repeated maternal abuse, 11% of men in the survey impregnated teenage girls (Rosenberg,
2001, p. 184).
Childhood abuse is not the solitary contributing factor in teenage pregnancy, duration, multiple abuses, and frequency similarly contribute (Rosenberg,
2001, pp. 184–185). According to Rosenberg men who as children had recurrently experienced or witnessed maternal abuse were twice as likely to
impregnate a teenager (pp. 184–185). Furthermore, men who as children experienced two or more types of maltreatment were more than twice as apt
to impregnate a teenage girl (Rosenberg, 2001, pp. 184–185). Significantly, the odds ratio for adolescent pregnancy radically and incrementally raised
as exposure to childhood abuse increased (Hillis, et al., 2004, p. 5).

"A baby with a baby?" That is what most people say, or think, when they hear about the pregnancy of an adolescent girl. Early pregnancy, commonly
referred to as teenage pregnancy, is an ongoing crisis throughout the world. However, the United States has the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the
world. Since its peak in 1990, teen pregnancy rates have declined by half, but they are still fairly high. According to the National Campaign to Prevent
Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, "roughly one in four teens girls in the U.S. will get pregnant at least once by the age of twenty" (The National

It is not just the media that can negatively influence teenagers, but their own peers can as well. As young, inexperienced people who are still trying
to find themselves, teenagers tend to copy the actions of their peers in order to fit in. When peer influence is paired with sexual competitiveness at a
young age, it becomes one of the many causes of early pregnancy. For example, in a study of sexually experienced teenagers, "it was found that twenty
percent initiated sexual activity because of peer pressure" (Macleod 8).
Lastly, teenage pregnancy can also occur due to coercive relationships between young girls and their sexual partners, whom are usually older men.
Unfortunately, in many cases teenage pregnancy is due to the horrible act of sexual assault or rape. Girls under the age of eighteen are victims of
about half of the rapes in the United States alone. For example, twenty four pregnant adolescents were surveyed and almost all of them admitted that
they felt "deceived, coerced or intimidated into having sex initially, and that intercourse continued to have violent features" (Macleod 8). In addition,
"federal and state surveys suggest that adult males are the fathers of some two–thirds of the babies born to teenage girls" (Shapiro 1). Adult and teen
relationships are not anything new, but what drives men into pursuing young women?

United Nations, Belize encompasses the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the Caribbean followed by Guyana and Jamaica. Based on the media
perspective, teenage pregnancy is a rising issue in Belize that should be taken more seriously. It's an epidemic ruining lives and perpetuating poverty.

However, due to educational programs such as "YES, IT VET, CET and Social Services" opportunities for upliftment becomes possible. These
programs are designed to educate and prepare young individuals for a better life. Secondly, the media highlights the contributing factors of teenage
pregnancy. Based on a study done in South Africa, the inadequate knowledge of contraception is a major factor contributing to teenage pregnancy.
Parents are very hesitant when it comes to educating their children about sex and the use of contraception. The majority believe that their children
will eventually learn on their own as time pass by or they don't believe children should even know about adult activities since sex and contraceptive
usage is considered an "adult thing." Lacking the knowledge of sex and contraceptive usage can definitely lead to teenage pregnancy because both
parties are unaware of the consequence that follows their actions. Another factor is alcohol and vanity. Luxurious lifestyles cause most teenagers to
sadly stumble unto the path of prostitution as well and often becoming impregnated and drop out of school. Being a mom at an early age due to fast
living can also lead to contraction of life–threatening diseases such as HIV/AIDS which could also be an addition to teenage pregnancy. Having been
sick with HIV/AIDS and pregnant is not the combination any mother would ever dream about especially

Teenage Pregnancy Issues
Teenage pregnancy is an emerging global issue that affects sustainable development. Not only do the developing countries face this challenge but also
the developed counties at large. Adolescent pregnancies challenge the moral and ethical sensibilities in most states and as researchers try to define the
cause of teenage pregnancies. Sustainable development is necessary for the successful development of any nation. Therefore adolescent pregnancies
become a societal` challenge that needs to be addressed efficiently. Teenagepregnancy is defined as the pregnancy that occurs in females below the
age of twenty years (Leishman and Moir ). Depending on the situation, adolescent pregnancies can either be planned for or unplanned, but according to
research most of the pregnancies are usually unwanted. According to statistics, although the number of teenage pregnancies is gradually decreasing, it
is still calculated that for every five girls, two will get pregnant before the age of nineteen. The US is the most extensively developed country with
high cases of teenage pregnancy; it was identified that more than 850,000 girls get pregnant every year and around 500,000 carry the pregnancy to term
(Coleman). Notably, most of the societal issues are usually blamed on teenage pregnancy; for instance, single parenting, poverty, drug abuse, crime
among other social problems. Over the recent years, there has been an overemphasis on preventing teenage pregnancy itself rather than addressing the

Teenage pregnancy is an issue in the United States, it is one issue that should wait until teens are married and know what they are doing with their
lives. This issue came about in the early in the 1950's – 1960's. Teen pregnancy is a teenage girl between the ages 13–19 (girls who haven't reached
adulthood) having unwanted or wanted babies. Janet Bode once stated in her book, "Emotions run everywhere, scared, sad, disappointment and
preparation for what is about to happen" (Bode 51). If we do not act now, teen pregnancy will be out the roof. Teen pregnancy needs a stop put to it no
matter what, teens are still children themselves and they are still learning how to take care of themselves:
"One of the major concerns of having a child or becoming a parent is to do so when you're old and mature enough to take on the responsibility. One of
the problems in today's society is teenage pregnancy. The risk of pregnancy in teenagers is increasing largely. Many teenagers don't know how big
of a responsibility it is to raise another human being when they themselves still have a lot of growing to do. Teenagers need to be more educated
about themselves and their bodies as well as ways to protect themselves from getting pregnant if they're sexually active. Also, teenagers are more
prone to risks during a pregnancy than a twenty or thirty year old woman would be. Becoming a teen parent automatically gives you a big
responsibility to deal with. This means that all of your personal priorities are set aside and that your child comes first. Most teens don't even know
how to take care of a child. Taking care of your own child isn't like babysitting; it is a full time job. Dealing with children involves a lot of patience,
which a lot of teens don't have." (Moum 1)
The importance of the quote is teenagers should know how to prevent pregnancy, teenagers are more likely to have children and they also have more
risk factors to their lives. This quote also has the importance to saying pregnancy should wait for teens because they are not educated about this issue.
Every year the rates of teen pregnancy have been out the roof. Three in ten teenage girls are pregnant before the age of 20, which is 750 thousand
pregnancies each year (Facts

Teenage mothers played a role in the abusing of government supports, and there are so much more difference factors that con "In soft regions born soft

amounts of people getting welfares are increasing from 1996 to 2011. In 2011, 49.2 percent of Americans are receiving welfare. The population in
2011 was 311.7 million people, so 155.3 million of Americans are on welfare. That is almost half of a country population. It is clear that the
current welfare system is making people became more and more lazy. With that said, we all know that the economic in 2011 is not the same as
2014. The amount of people that benefited from welfares is always increasing after a Great Depression. People losing jobs everywhere and our
government reached out to help the people. What depressing is that in 2013, the amount of people still on welfare are still too large. According to
the new data, in 2011, there are 49 million people are on STAP, in 2013, there are 47 million people on STAP. According to FRAC.org, December

Sadly for most teenage mothers this isn't attainable. You never picture the fight with being such a young mother. Teen Mom enables the viewers
to see the battles of being pregnant at such a young age. Kaitlyn Lowry, who at age 17 allowed MTV to film the pregnancy and birth of her first
child, is an incredible exemplar of how having a child at a very young age influences your life so enormously. She said," I was given a blessing but
I still haven't gotten my bachelor's degree, because, one, daycare is so expensive and, two, how do you balance studying and having a little one at
home?" (Gonchar and Schulten). Before MTV made the Teen Mom show, teens were not able to easily endure life as a teen mother. The simplest
tasks turn into milestones when you're a young mother. This kind of television show is a creative approach to relay informative information to teens.
Melissa Kearney, University of Maryland economics professor and director of the Brookings Institution's Hamilton Project, has a great point of view
on this subject. She states, "Soap operas and prime time dramas have dabbled in 'edutainment' for years; now it may be time to get down and dirty with

The Problem Of Teenage Pregnancy
Like Amy and Loeber (2009), when it comes to the ecological paradigm of teenage pregnancy, Corcoran, Franklin, and Bennett (2000) also believe
one's socioeconomic status is a huge factor that contributes to this problem. A person's socioeconomic status a lot of times determines "education,
expanded family size, single–parent household structure, and lessened resources in terms of employment and income." These three authors claim that
educational performance and goals "dictate the potential costs of child bearing at a young age." Their studies have also shown that teenage girls'
relationships with the school setting and poorer performance in school serve a greater risk for adolescent pregnancy. Corcoran, Franklin and Bennett
(2000) confirm, "being part of a single–parent household seems to act as a risk factor for early pregnancy." Among singe–parent households, "conflict
within the family, stress, and less monitoring and control of children" occurs, which the authors say can increase the risk of teen pregnancy. In
addition, "teenagers experiencing family problems might be more at risk for influence by a negative peer group" that could potentially lead to
motherhood at an early age. They also claim "support is indicated for parental control over teen activities as a protective factor against teenage
pregnancy" that a lot of times isn't found in single–parent homes.

Teenage Pregnancy In Teenage Moms
In 2015, there was a huge problem that broke out all over the united states that over 200,000 girls gave birth between the age of 15–19(CDC). First,
there are many problems with this statistic because there are so many girls having their young teen years skipped and jumping right towards
parenthood. The big issue seen around the united states is that with these unplanned babies some mothers will drop out of high school. Sadly, this
will end of resulting in a huge life change and lead them down a very long road ahead without graduating high school and getting their diploma.
Even though, some of the mothers go back to school their lives will never be the same. Also, many understand that the teen moms are the ones
being directly affected. However, the indirectly affected are the families of their teenager who was pregnant. This is a very stressful time for the
parents and this adds to them getting very angry with their children which may result in them kicking them out or for some help their child raise a
baby. It is a very stressful thing and the families start to become overwhelmed with their teenage daughter whose pregnant and few become depressed
because they feel that their life raising was a fail. Next, is teenage pregnancies are becoming more present and sometimes these incidents can just be
prevented with contraception (HHS). In fact, many girls should have this talk with their parents because it is available and will help the girls avoid

The Factors Of Teenage Pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy is normally identified as a deprived life choice, for example, tasks of teenage parenting have long–term impact on the mental health
of the mother and children (Statistics New Zealand, 2003). It is important to identify the socioeconomic factors of teenage pregnancy to lower the
chances of mental health problems in young mothers. In this paper the aim is to analyse the main socioeconomic factors of teenage pregnancy and
discuss how it affects the mental health of an adolescent mother in New Zealand. This essay will commence by identifying how a lack of education is
considered as a socioeconomic factor associated with teenage pregnancy, followed by the second theme which will consist of economic circumstances
such as, parental unemployment and welfare dependency. Lastly, this essay will discuss how deficiency of support fromfamily and friends leads to
unstable relationships, which has a huge impact on a teenage mother's mental health. A lack of education is one of the main socioeconomic factors
which impact the mental health of an adolescent mother. Studies show a number of negative outcomes that are linked with dropping out of school at
an early age. For example, youth that tends to gain fewer educational qualifications are more likely to be in unstable relationships resulting in a lack of
knowledge regarding contraceptive use which leaves them to deal with economic circumstances (Breheny & Stephens, 2008; Friesen, Woodward,

The likelihood of a teenager becoming pregnant can be due to a number of influencing factors. One of those factors being that teen moms now have
grown up in poverty or low income with little to no access to a good education or good employment; it is seen at the norm in that environment (Hurd &
Zimmerman, 2010; Lopoo, 2011). Teenage motherhood is also more accustomed among the minority populations (Lopoo, 2011). It is said that this is
because certain minority groups don't have sanctions against teen pregnancy (Mollborn, 2010).
Teens may also become pregnant because they do not have the proper education and information on sexual health/pregnancy prevention or they may
have none at all. It is presumed that the most of teenage pregnancies are unexpected and accidental (McKay & Barrett, 2010). Majority of schools tend
to use abstinence– only education and only educate about contraceptive failure. Another thing to consider is the parents, some parents may be giving
their teen the wrong information because they may have been taught wrong or they may just find it hard and uncomfortable to talk about so they
won't say anything at all to correct what their teen think is true about sex and pregnancy. Teens also get the wrong idea about sex through the media

Social Justice and Human rights issues and impact on the clients Poverty: The social justice and human rights issues that teenage mothers face can
have a lasting impact on their lives. Many teenage mothers are at a higher risk for poverty. Teenage girls who become pregnant often come from low
socioeconomic circumstances – often having to depend on public assistance as a means of financial support for food and shelter (Rogers, 2017 p.307).
Some teenage mothers become single mothers and remain as such for a majority of their lifetime. Only about half of teen mothers earn a high school
diploma by age 22. Without an education, it diminishes their chance at job opportunities. Children born to teen parents are more likely to become teen
parents themselves. Statistics show that young girls born to teen mothers are 66% more likely to become teen mothers as well, which leads to
becoming a generational cycle that is frequently filled with dysfunction. Children living in these environments have a higher risk of being neglected
and abused. (Banning, Burton, Pai–Espinosa Prummer, 2016). Stigma/Ageism, (Rogers, 2017 p.308), Piaget suggests the cognitive ability to

you're a child yourself comes with big responsibilities. Sometimes many teenagers feel like they must be sexual active to prove a point and sometimes
teenagers are even pressured by their friends or even their soul mate. Teenagepregnancy is a very big problem and more needs to be done to prevent
teen pregnancy and to educate teens about its consequences.

Parents have already seen and have been through situations when they were teenagers, so they would know what to say and would know how
you feel because they were once teens. So, talking to a parent can be helpful because they know what true love is and know how hard it is to raise A
baby at such a young age and because of that they would like for their children to know about it and that it's a major problem to be involved in. Parents
also can give you good advice on not worrying about boys or kids while being a teen and to focus on making good decisions by staying in school and
having a good career for yourself.
In the same way doctors, can also communicate with teenagers about what they can do to stay away from pregnancy. Doctors help teenagers by
talking to them a showing them what can happen to them by having unprotected sex and its consequences. They explain to teens that having
unprotected sex could leave them with a sexual transmitted disease or even a child that could mess their life up. The "Providers can offer sexually
active teens a broad range of contraceptive methods and encourage them to use the most effective methods" (Best). Going to the doctors is always a
good choice because they give teens a brief explanation on teen pregnancy and goes over all its roles on why you don't want to be a mother at such an

The reason I selected this source over any other sources, was because of the visually appealing background along with the strong use of vocabulary
that popped out at me at first. With the background, the pink flowers laying on the decking, along with the feet which look to be from a younger child,
showed me straight away that this source is directly relating to children and younger teens. The poem shows very impacting statistics which states the
reality of teenage poverty, and how it affects so many innocent teens, even at ages of 12 and under. The vocabulary used such as '15 million children
under the poverty line' 'between 18 and 12 years old' and '27 die because of it' are very powerful and really emphasise the growing issue of teenage
poverty.

Teenage Pregnancy And Teenage Pregnancies
The amount of teenage pregnancies in America has skyrocketed in the last few decades. Young, uneducated children are having sexual intercourse
without a clear understanding of the serious consequents behind their actions, but it is not entirely their fault because their parents and school's
curriculum have failed to bestow a clear and concise grasp of sex. Sexual education is typically incorporated into an academic setting either in middle
school or high school when an adolescent is hitting puberty. But, teaching sexual education to teenagers when their hormones are off the roof is like
telling a child not to eat a cake after they had just consumed it–not very helpful. If a child is taught at an early age about sexual education, staring in
elementary school, rather than in high school or middle school, it will reduce the risk of teenage pregnancies, help kids is less self–conscience of his
or her body, and gain a clear understanding of sexual transmitted diseases. Risky sexual behaviors among youth are high. According to the 2011
National Youth Risk Behavior Survey data, nearly half (47%) of high school students reported havingsexual intercourse (Barr). Now, just imagine how
much the percentage would increase if all students were truthful and the survey were retaken in 2015. In another study conducted on middle school
students, twenty percent of sixth graders have already their first sexual encounter, and forty–two

The Prevention of Teenage Pregnancy
Approximately every two minutes, a teenage girl in the United States gives birth (Guernsey 6). While this fact may be sad and startling to most
people, it is in deed the truth. Over the past few decades, the problem of teen pregnancy has grown considerably in this country. It has been receiving a
great deal of public and official attention recently, including expressions of concern from President Clinton and New Jersey's Governor Whitman
(Schurmann 7). However, the most extensive dilemma regarding the issue of adolescent pregnancy is the incredibly important question of prevention.

However, many studies have shown that when abortions become more available, the abortion rate does not necessarily increase. Currently, teenage girls
have twenty–five percent of all abortions, about four hundred thousand per year (Guernsey 7). In 1973, during the Roe v. Wade trial, the Supreme
Court granted limited abortion rights to minors. In many states girls were required to have parental consent before the procedure (Harris 20). This
created many problems because for a lot of the girls, obtaining permission from their parents was as likely as winning the lottery. This ruling led to
illegal abortions, an increase in the teenage birth rate, and it created a severe controversy that is still a cause of debate today. However, for many
girls abortion is not even an option. Often abortions go against a girl's religious or personal beliefs, or they do not feel they have the means to pay
for an abortion. In these cases, a girl who does not want her baby will give it up for adoption. Although this appears to be a logical choice for a
pregnant teen to make, it is one that comes with much suffering and heartache. While teenage mothers are the source of most babies that are adopted,
every year out of one–hundred babies they give birth to, less than five are given up for adoption (Guernsey 41). The hardest part for many of the girls
is the separation anxiety they feel once their baby has left. While certain adoption agencies offer girls the chance to keep in contact with their

Teenage Drinking

  • 1. Teenage Drinking While exploring the problem and symptoms of teenage drinking. It was determined that drinking was one of the many causing factors in which we came across when it came to teenage pregnancies. Of course teenage pregnancy must be looked at on a case–by–case basis. It was found that there are multiple causes, symptoms that can take place in the youth daily lives to create the environment conducive to the problem. Some of the events that take place are things like skipping school or dropping out of school. Emotional stress is another factor affecting the youth who are getting pregnant because the youth are not receiving the proper support at home, many feel no one cares. Becoming a struggling teen parent has caused many teens to suffer from depression. Another issue that arises from teenagers becoming parents has been the effect it has had on the social and economic cost of our society due to high birth rates. The fact that most teenagers have no social or economic means to sufficiently sustain themselves and a child. The study further claims that the minorities, Latinos and Blacks have had a higher risk of teen pregnancy thereby costing taxpayers billions. The CDC states "only about 50% of teen mothers receive a high school diploma by 22 years of age, versus approximately 90% of women who had not given ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies have shown that many teens are being pressured by other teens to engage in encounters they would otherwise engage in. This accompanied by the fact that many schools and states no longer require sexual education classes in schools has made for uninformed youth to commit mistakes they later learn are not so easy to deal with. The youth who are involving themselves in risky sexual behaviors are not taking into account the risk they are taking every time they are having unprotected sex. It is estimated that their friends are influencing about 43% of the youth having sex. (CDC, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Teenage Pregnancy The Effects of Teenage Pregnancy Pregnancy is beautiful; however, for a teenager it can be a philosophical event with long term implications. Wall–Wieler stated that, "Teenage pregnancy is having at least one pregnancy between the ages of 14 and 19 (inclusive)" (4). Such a situation for teenagers comes with many obstacles. Adolescence would lose the opportunity to fully enjoy their teen years. This is a once in a lifetime experience, which would be cut short because of engaging in adult activities. There is also the possibility of frustration, depression and confusion because the situation might be too much to handle. In most cases, teen pregnancy will have a negative effect on the pregnant teen because it will force them to be fully committed to the concerns and needs of the child while neglecting their own. In the same fashion, teen mothers would face the challenge of changing their life style to accompany a child. Some teenagers will miss out on their education; this could mean not going to school or potentially dropping out of school permanently to take care of their baby. According to Huffman, "Only 32 percent of teen mothers have graduated from high school–that is, have received a regular high school diploma–by age 30, compared with over 84 percent of women who delay motherhood. This figure is not surprising; the presence of a young child makes it very difficult for teen mothers to continue their education" (56). When a child drops out of school they are prone to ... • 3. Essay On Teenage Parents 1 Children of Teenage Parents Children of Teenage Parents Asia Leon Professor Shawna Lee EAD 502 AA Children with Challenging Behaviours Monday, February 13th, 2017 Children of Teenage Parents The topic that was researched is the effects on children born to teenage parents. This topic will be explained and evaluated by examining how support plays a role in the wellbeing of the child and mother. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These themes will be explained and support will be examined to see the effects on children born to teenage parents. Research have shown that childbearing during the teen years is a both a result and cause of poverty (Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy [SCAA], 2008). The SCAA states that the same complicated set of socio– economic factors that puts teenagers at risk of child– bearing also contributes to the reality that teen parents continue to live in poverty (2008). According to research, "A greater proportion of young women who are poor become sexually active as adolescents, do not use a contraceptive method at first intercourse and give birth by age 20" (SCAA, 2008). The poverty

They don't allow their children to be involved in early learning, rather they use parental care or other noncentre care which lowered school readiness (Mollborn & Blalock, 2012). In another study presented, teen mothers who have support and are educated on child development tend to engage their children in centre care (Mollborn & Blalock, 2012). The research states that child care is an important arena of socialization that affects children's development, thus many poor children and children who are members of racial/ethnic minority groups, two categories into which teen parents' children disproportionately fall, benefit more from ... • 5. Teenage Pregnancy Teenage Pregnancy I. Introduction Teenage pregnancy is one of the major problem that the world is facing today. Early pregnancy or teenage pregnancy is dangerous to teenage girls' health because it may cause cervical cancer, aids, and eventually death. Teenage pregnancies are often associated with an increased rate of delinquent behaviors including alcohol and substance abuse. To begin with, majority of them belong to the low income group. To prevent this dilemma, there are some preventions that can reduce the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy. Firstly, parents must keep them at home with an intact family set–up, secondly, they must keep them at school, third, keep talking to them, and lastly, they must keep them morally and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best way to avoid teen pregnancy is by avoiding or abstaining from sex before marriage. III. Body Teenage pregnancy is a widespread issue in the Philippines, especially amongst the poor and it is an obvious rising issue in our society. Teachingsex education in schools can at least reduce the rising rate of teenage pregnancy. Sex education aims to reduce the risks of potentially negative outcomes from sexual behavior such as unplanned pregnancy and infection with sexually transmitted disease including HIV. Comprehensive Sexuality Education and the Abstinence–Only–Until–Marriage are the two different types of sex education classes. The program that starts in kindergarten and finishes up to high school is the Comprehensive Sexuality Education that tackles the appropriate sexuality topics, safe sex, STDs, contraceptives and more. On the other hand, the Abstinence–Only–Until–Marriage focuses on all sexual behaviors and it doesn't tackle the information of contraceptives, STDs and more. • 6. Difficulties for Teenage Mothers The problems of early teenage mothers are irrefutable. Some factors that are seen to contribute to teenage pregnancy are educational failure, poverty, unemployment and low self–esteem these are understood to be the results of a negative outcome of an early childhood. For example, recent studies suggest that most adolescent mothers had already made the decision to leave school before they had become pregnant. On the other hand, adolescents still in school when they give birth are as likely to graduate the same as their peers. It is not clear how well the adolescents with the most problems would have fared in the future even without early parenthood. Some of the contributing factors or causes of teenage pregnancy can be a Lack of Parental Guidance, some parents avoid talking to their children about sex, as well as this in some cases they may have supplied false information regarding sex to try and discourage their children to participate in any explanatory discussion about sex. In some cases, teenage mothers are not well educated about sex before getting pregnant and thus this leads to lack of communication between the parents and the children and in addition little understanding of the subject as a whole. Another contributing factor can be adolescent sexual behavior, among adolescents; peer pressure is a major factor that urges teenage boys and girls to take part in sexual activities. Early dating, in as early as 12 years of age can be another factor, which may contribute ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Teenage Mothers Stereotypes Teenage mothers face many stereotypes and misconceptions, and based on this, the image people might have about teen moms are that young mothers are irresponsible, without a future, and bad mothers. Stereotypes are an elegant way in which people generalize a group with few details without knowing them deeply. On the other hand; misconceptions or misunderstandings is the erroneous view or opinion on something because it is based on faulty thinking or understanding. In addition; the main negative thing about stereotypes and misconceptions is that prejudge people. • 8. Teenage Pregnancy : The Causes Of Teenage Birth Rates Teenage Mother Three out of ten adolescent young ladies will end up getting pregnant before the age of twenty. That is rounded to about seven hundred and fifty thousand high school pregnancies consistently occurring. Over half of the teenage mothers to be, never finish secondary school. Planned Parenthood determined that eighty two percent of teenage pregnancies are not thought out nor planned for. Contrasted with the adolescent birth rates in other created nations, America's are the most elevated: twice as high as Australia's and Canada's, three times as high as France's, three and a half circumstances as high as Germany's, six times as high as the Netherlands', and seven times as high as Japan's. Teenage mothers have less of a chance to marry the father of their offspring. The national conference of state legislature tells us that roughly about twenty percent of teenage mothers marry the father of their child. About twenty five percent of teenage mothers have another child after about twenty–four months of having their first child. That would make it extremely hard to attend college or even finish high school. No more than two percent earn a college degree before the age of thirty! Not many mothers have the love and support that is very much needed to help raise a baby at such a young age. • 9. The Issue Of Teenage Pregnancy Introduction: Teenage pregnancy is a hot–button issue in the United States that has lured the attention of citizens for many years. Since its peak in 1990, teen pregnancy has declined significantly, but is still held as the center for much controversy, especially with recent reality television shows that many claim are "glorifying" teenage pregnancy (The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, 2014; Henson, 2011). Although numbers of pregnant teens are down, certain areas continue to struggle with this issue, and are seeking new ways to get the message across. This case study focuses on a series of print and transportation advertisements that were distributed in Milwaukee and Chicago from approximately 2009 through 2013 (Murray, 2013). The following study also showcases the stigmas surrounding the ads and links relevant coursework from chapters two, three, and four via the campaign's choice of tactics. Overview of Case: The key elements of this case study is the primary method of delivery (public transportation), use of visual metaphor (showing a pregnant teen as male), and use of shock tactics. In the most recent case, the persuader is the City of Chicago and the Chicago Department of Health (Murray, 2013). They are trying to show the importance of teen pregnancy awareness through an alarming (and medically impossible) metaphor, attempting to persuade its audience to become aware of this issue and to do something about it, whether it be teens practicing ... • 10. Teenage Mother Being a Teenage Mother : The Stressing and Difficulties with a baby "Being pregnant as a teenager at the age of 15 has been difficult for me ever since. At the age of 21, I am just now finishing high school at CPCC and I also have a son who is now at the age of 6. It hasn't been all easy. I have to balance my time with my job and child. I have faced so many difficulties with me and my son's life." says my cousin Alejandra. Teenpregnancy is difficult for girls because Childbearing can be painful for teenage girls, Single parenting can bring in unnecessary stress to the job of raising children, and it can bring unnecessary economic/financial issues when having a baby. Teen pregnancy is difficult for girls because of the pain. Teenage girls go through so much pain when comes to childbearing, the carrying of a baby. Teenagers have a higher chance of getting an illness or pain during pregnancy, according to Denise Mann from WebMD. Teenagers are at a higher risk of a dangerous medical condition called Preeclampsia, which is the result of high blood pressure. "Preeclampsia is a serious condition that develops during pregnancy and is potentially fatal." (Mann,1). This means the teenage mother is at risk of this condition and there a lot more out there that can harm her. With this being the reason of her putting herself in a position of carrying a baby it exposes her to more pain or conditions which can lead into any pregnancy complications. It can be ... • 11. Teenage Pregnancy And Effect On Teenage Mothers There are differing stigmas of teenage pregnancy, which can affect teenage mothers. Teenage mothers face the risk of not being accepted by their peers and community. Acquiring a position in society, that is often the subject of negative criticism and judgment, can profoundly impact teenage mothers (Luttrell, 2014). This research paper will analyze teenage pregnancy stigmas and how they can impact young mothers. This paper will include a literature review, analyzing adolescent sexuality and behavior, teenage pregnancy and motherhood and perceptions of teenage pregnancy. Lastly, recommendations for future practice will be discussed. Background The Australian teenage fertility rates, have been on the decline for many years. In 2014, there was approximately 9,204 teenagers giving birth in Australia (ABS, 2014). In 2006, in South Australia alone, 982 women aged 15 to 19 had abortions (ABS, 2014). These kinds of statistics, mean there is still a large amount of teenage mothers that require support and assistance. This paper will look at making recommendations in practice and service development. The paper includes: examining statistical information and reviewing literature and research. Literature Review Adolescent sexuality and Behavior In industrialized countries, the age of onset of sexual intercourse is said to be declining (Currie, 2012). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases a young girl getting pregnant while still living at home and attending school may result in her getting thrown out of her home , which makes it even more complicated to attend classes. After having a child the mother is usually given six weeks for recovery and to spend time with the mother. The time missed by the student may result to failure of classes or getting behind. This is when most teens decide to not come back to school because they figure it is more of a hassle and simply do not know what to do. There are some high schools that have day cares located inside the school, but not all. It is a struggle for teens to put their child in day care, especially if they cannot find a job that will work around the school schedule and spending time with the baby. The government does provide assistance in child care but they do not pay for the whole thing. It was recently reported by CBS 2 News that Chicago's South Side Paul Robenson High School has 115 girls who are pregnant out of 800 girls who attend the school (Roush, 2009). Teenage Pregnancy Teenage Pregnancy In 2014 Oklahoma City had the second highest teen birth rate in the United States at 38.5 pregnancies per 1000; the national average is 24.2 per 1000 (Grigson, 2016). Changing the health behaviors that lead to teenage pregnancy should be a #1 priority for healthcare workers and within the community. In order to have a positive impact on this target population, there needs to be increased awareness of the outcomes of teenage pregnancy, and more importantly how to change the health behaviors that lead to this outcome. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the issues with changing the health behavior is that often there is bias in teaching an 'abstinence only' for of sex education. When in reality, in order to change the behavior, health educators need to have a comprehensive form of education. The negative outcomes of teenage pregnancy should also be addressed. The fact that the incidence of syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia are extremely high in the US when compared to 16 other developed countries (Kohler, Manhart, & Lafferty, 2008, p. 344) shows the necessity for teaching about safe sex practices. Educating potential teenage mothers of the long term effects of pregnancy and child birth should be the top priority. Low High School completion rates, a lack of job and education opportunities should be the focus for educating the teenage population on what's at stake. The drive for health education should be the catalyst for a change in the health behavior. If at–risk teens are going to make the conscious decision to be sexually active, then there needs to be open an honest conversation about safe sex and pregnancy prevention. All too often conversations about safe sex practices seem taboo and are glossed over or avoided. Health educators need to hit this head on to help mitigate this health behavior. The benefit of contraceptive uses and the impact on teenage pregnancy needs to be addressed. During a five year period starting in 2008, long–acting contraception was given to teenage girls in a ... The biggest reason for this is because children grow up with the media promoting sex. Movies, music and magazines send the message that sex is okay and often expected. Teenagers don't fully understand the consequences that can arise from there decisions. Slightly more than half of American teenagers ages 15 to 19 have engaged in oral sex, with females and males reporting similar levels of experience, according to the most comprehensive national survey of sexual behaviors ever released by the federal government. • 15. The Problem Of Teenage Pregnancy Introduction Billions of dollars are spent annually to address consequences facing teens that are sexually active (Carlson & Tanner 2006). Yet forty percent of all women will become pregnant before the age of twenty and only half of them will actually deliver the baby (Kirby 2007). Out of that 20%, 82% of those pregnancies were unintended (Kirby 2007). Teenaged parents are more likely to drop out of high school, will not go to college, and the mother more than likely becomes a single parent (Kirby 2007). Children who are born to teenage parents are more likely to have a less supportive and less stimulating home environment, lower cognitive development, behavioral problems, and will most likely have a child when they are a teenager (Kirby 2007). Though there are some exceptions, this becomes a never ending cycle for these teenagers from generation to generation. Most people begin to have sex in their teenaged years (Carlson & Tanner 2006). Out of all industrialized nations, the United States has the highest teenage pregnancy and birth rate (Gibson 2010). Educating youth about sex is very essential to not only preventing STDs, STIs, and HIV but also in preventing unwanted teenage pregnancies (Gibson 2010). Many teenagers are engaging in sexual activity beginning as early as 6th grade (Somers & Surmann 2005). Many teenagers do not carefully or consistently use a contraceptive which increases their chances of becoming pregnant (Kirby 2007). Have we failed our youth by not ... Each year, almost half of all pregnancies among American women are not intended. The lack of sex education in schools may be the cause of why teen pregnancy is at an uprise. Young women try to find solutions to stoppregnancy, birth control is one form of preventing pregnancy. Other people choose to get an abortion. Sex education classes in high school can also help and inform teens about STD's and HIV/AIDS. The history of sex education and its controversy began in the U.S. It began as early as 1912. The National Education Association put teachers in training programs for sex education. Some people saw this as unnecessary and thought that this did not have to be taught in school's. In 1960 to about 1980, sex education programs were described as the Christian Crusade. "Sex education programs in public schools proliferated, in large part due to newly emerging evidence that such programs didn't promote sex but in fact helped delay sexual activity and reduce teen pregnancy rates" (Pardini,Priscilla). Many teen's in America get the education they need about sex, but they are not aware of the consequences of having a child at an early age. • 17. The Prevention Of Teenage Pregnancy Prevention of Teenage Pregnancy Becoming a parent can be a challenging situation even for the most prepared. However, if you are a teenager, it can be the biggest challenge of young adolescent life. Teen pregnancy can affect one physically, emotionally, as well as financially. The stress and pressure that comes with finding out your pregnant can be devastating. From finding the right words to tell your parents to finding ways to pay for the cost of having your baby and the ultimate pressure figuring out how to raise your baby while trying to balance your teenage life. A pregnant teen will have to come to terms with that their lives will never be the same. Nor will the lives of all those closely related to them such as their parents. The only hope of preventing teen pregnancy is through the education of teenagers from parents and educators. Informing the adolescent of the repercussions will help prevent teen pregnancy because there is a lack of knowledge on responsibilities and commitment of taking care of an infant. The importance of sex education as well as parent involvement in demonstrating the use of effective contraceptives such as condoms or birth control can tremendously decrease the rates of teen pregnancy. Teen pregnancy is becoming very prevalent in this country and many teens don 't realize the consequences of having unprotected sex. • 20. Teenage Pregnancy Essay Why is it important to understand how adverse childhood experiences create risk factors that can impact teenage pregnancy? The answer is multifaceted and complex, but an important consequence of teenage pregnancy is to the baby itself. Children of teenage mothers have more health issues, are more likely to be abused, be less educated, and more likely to become criminals (Hillis, et al., 2004, p. 2). Moreover, because teenage mothers are poorer and have less emotional support, children of teenage mothers are more likely to be abused both physically and emotionally (Rosenberg, 2001, p. 185). However, Widom and Kuhns observed that there is no correlation between physical abuse and teenage pregnancies (p. 1609). Men that grew up witnessing constant abuse against their mother are twice as prone to getting a teenage girl pregnant as men that did not witness maternal abuse (Rosenberg, 2001, p. 184). Overall, when men grew up in households where there was repeated maternal abuse, 11% of men in the survey impregnated teenage girls (Rosenberg, 2001, p. 184). Childhood abuse is not the solitary contributing factor in teenage pregnancy, duration, multiple abuses, and frequency similarly contribute (Rosenberg, 2001, pp. 184–185). According to Rosenberg men who as children had recurrently experienced or witnessed maternal abuse were twice as likely to impregnate a teenager (pp. 184–185). Furthermore, men who as children experienced two or more types of maltreatment were more than twice as apt to impregnate a teenage girl (Rosenberg, 2001, pp. 184–185). Significantly, the odds ratio for adolescent pregnancy radically and incrementally raised as exposure to childhood abuse increased (Hillis, et al., 2004, p. 5). Early pregnancy, commonly referred to as teenage pregnancy, is an ongoing crisis throughout the world. However, the United States has the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the world. Since its peak in 1990, teen pregnancy rates have declined by half, but they are still fairly high. According to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, "roughly one in four teens girls in the U.S. will get pregnant at least once by the age of twenty" (The National Campaign 1). For example, in a study of sexually experienced teenagers, "it was found that twenty percent initiated sexual activity because of peer pressure" (Macleod 8). Lastly, teenage pregnancy can also occur due to coercive relationships between young girls and their sexual partners, whom are usually older men. Unfortunately, in many cases teenage pregnancy is due to the horrible act of sexual assault or rape. Girls under the age of eighteen are victims of about half of the rapes in the United States alone. For example, twenty four pregnant adolescents were surveyed and almost all of them admitted that they felt "deceived, coerced or intimidated into having sex initially, and that intercourse continued to have violent features" (Macleod 8). Parents are very hesitant when it comes to educating their children about sex and the use of contraception. The majority believe that their children will eventually learn on their own as time pass by or they don't believe children should even know about adult activities since sex and contraceptive usage is considered an "adult thing." Lacking the knowledge of sex and contraceptive usage can definitely lead to teenage pregnancy because both parties are unaware of the consequence that follows their actions. • 25. Teenage Pregnancy Papers Teenage pregnancy is an issue in the United States, it is one issue that should wait until teens are married and know what they are doing with their lives. This issue came about in the early in the 1950's – 1960's. Teen pregnancy is a teenage girl between the ages 13–19 (girls who haven't reached adulthood) having unwanted or wanted babies. Janet Bode once stated in her book, "Emotions run everywhere, scared, sad, disappointment and preparation for what is about to happen" (Bode 51). If we do not act now, teen pregnancy will be out the roof. Teen pregnancy needs a stop put to it no matter what, teens are still children themselves and they are still learning how to take care of themselves: "One of the major concerns of having a child or becoming a parent is to do so when you're old and mature enough to take on the responsibility. One of the problems in today's society is teenage pregnancy. The risk of pregnancy in teenagers is increasing largely. Many teenagers don't know how big of a responsibility it is to raise another human being when they themselves still have a lot of growing to do. Teenagers need to be more educated about themselves and their bodies as well as ways to protect themselves from getting pregnant if they're sexually active. Also, teenagers are more prone to risks during a pregnancy than a twenty or thirty year old woman would be. Becoming a teen parent automatically gives you a big responsibility to deal with. This means that all of your personal priorities are set aside and that your child comes first. Most teens don't even know how to take care of a child. Taking care of your own child isn't like babysitting; it is a full time job. Dealing with children involves a lot of patience, which a lot of teens don't have." (Moum 1) The importance of the quote is teenagers should know how to prevent pregnancy, teenagers are more likely to have children and they also have more risk factors to their lives. This quote also has the importance to saying pregnancy should wait for teens because they are not educated about this issue. Every year the rates of teen pregnancy have been out the roof. The Problem Of Teenage Pregnancy Like Amy and Loeber (2009), when it comes to the ecological paradigm of teenage pregnancy, Corcoran, Franklin, and Bennett (2000) also believe one's socioeconomic status is a huge factor that contributes to this problem. A person's socioeconomic status a lot of times determines "education, expanded family size, single–parent household structure, and lessened resources in terms of employment and income." These three authors claim that educational performance and goals "dictate the potential costs of child bearing at a young age." Their studies have also shown that teenage girls' relationships with the school setting and poorer performance in school serve a greater risk for adolescent pregnancy. Corcoran, Franklin and Bennett (2000) confirm, "being part of a single–parent household seems to act as a risk factor for early pregnancy." Among singe–parent households, "conflict within the family, stress, and less monitoring and control of children" occurs, which the authors say can increase the risk of teen pregnancy. In addition, "teenagers experiencing family problems might be more at risk for influence by a negative peer group" that could potentially lead to motherhood at an early age. One of those factors being that teen moms now have grown up in poverty or low income with little to no access to a good education or good employment; it is seen at the norm in that environment (Hurd & Zimmerman, 2010; Lopoo, 2011). Teenage motherhood is also more accustomed among the minority populations (Lopoo, 2011). It is said that this is because certain minority groups don't have sanctions against teen pregnancy (Mollborn, 2010). Teens may also become pregnant because they do not have the proper education and information on sexual health/pregnancy prevention or they may have none at all. It is presumed that the most of teenage pregnancies are unexpected and accidental (McKay & Barrett, 2010). Majority of schools tend to use abstinence– only education and only educate about contraceptive failure. Another thing to consider is the parents, some parents may be giving their teen the wrong information because they may have been taught wrong or they may just find it hard and uncomfortable to talk about so they won't say anything at all to correct what their teen think is true about sex and pregnancy. Teens also get the wrong idea about sex through the media because even though it portrays sex heavily it rarely portrays the bad side effects of having sex such as STD's/ ... Teenage Mothers Social Justice and Human rights issues and impact on the clients Poverty: The social justice and human rights issues that teenage mothers face can have a lasting impact on their lives. Many teenage mothers are at a higher risk for poverty. Teenage girls who become pregnant often come from low socioeconomic circumstances – often having to depend on public assistance as a means of financial support for food and shelter (Rogers, 2017 p.307). Some teenage mothers become single mothers and remain as such for a majority of their lifetime. Only about half of teen mothers earn a high school diploma by age 22. Without an education, it diminishes their chance at job opportunities. Children born to teen parents are more likely to become teen parents themselves. Statistics show that young girls born to teen mothers are 66% more likely to become teen mothers as well, which leads to becoming a generational cycle that is frequently filled with dysfunction. Children living in these environments have a higher risk of being neglected and abused. (Banning, Burton, Pai–Espinosa Prummer, 2016). Stigma/Ageism, (Rogers, 2017 p.308), Piaget suggests the cognitive ability to understand consequences and what the reality of parenting is. • 38. Teenage Poverty Analysis The reason I selected this source over any other sources, was because of the visually appealing background along with the strong use of vocabulary that popped out at me at first. With the background, the pink flowers laying on the decking, along with the feet which look to be from a younger child, showed me straight away that this source is directly relating to children and younger teens. The poem shows very impacting statistics which states the reality of teenage poverty, and how it affects so many innocent teens, even at ages of 12 and under. The vocabulary used such as '15 million children under the poverty line' 'between 18 and 12 years old' and '27 die because of it' are very powerful and really emphasise the growing issue of teenage poverty. 2. This particular source that I have selected does in fact relate to the social justice topic I chose, this being teenage poverty. This is because the poem's main theme is about teenage poverty, and the realistic statistics that show the reality of teenage poverty, and how affecting it is for the young society. 3. The social injustice in the above source (CREATIVE), as well as the below sources (FACTUAL, MULTI –MEDIA) is focused upon the topic of teenage poverty. To me, I have not directly experienced this, nor have had any of my close relatives or friends experienced teenage poverty, although I do now understand the severity and reality of this issue. • 39. Teenage Pregnancy And Teenage Pregnancies The amount of teenage pregnancies in America has skyrocketed in the last few decades. Young, uneducated children are having sexual intercourse without a clear understanding of the serious consequents behind their actions, but it is not entirely their fault because their parents and school's curriculum have failed to bestow a clear and concise grasp of sex. Sexual education is typically incorporated into an academic setting either in middle school or high school when an adolescent is hitting puberty. But, teaching sexual education to teenagers when their hormones are off the roof is like telling a child not to eat a cake after they had just consumed it–not very helpful. If a child is taught at an early age about sexual education, staring in elementary school, rather than in high school or middle school, it will reduce the risk of teenage pregnancies, help kids is less self–conscience of his or her body, and gain a clear understanding of sexual transmitted diseases. Risky sexual behaviors among youth are high. According to the 2011 National Youth Risk Behavior Survey data, nearly half (47%) of high school students reported havingsexual intercourse (Barr). Now, just imagine how much the percentage would increase if all students were truthful and the survey were retaken in 2015. In another study conducted on middle school students, twenty percent of sixth graders have already their first sexual encounter, and forty–two Pitones 2 percent of eighth graders reported engaging in ... It has been receiving a great deal of public and official attention recently, including expressions of concern from President Clinton and New Jersey's Governor Whitman (Schurmann 7). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, many studies have shown that when abortions become more available, the abortion rate does not necessarily increase. Currently, teenage girls have twenty–five percent of all abortions, about four hundred thousand per year (Guernsey 7). In 1973, during the Roe v. Wade trial, the Supreme Court granted limited abortion rights to minors. In many states girls were required to have parental consent before the procedure (Harris 20). This created many problems because for a lot of the girls, obtaining permission from their parents was as likely as winning the lottery. This ruling led to illegal abortions, an increase in the teenage birth rate, and it created a severe controversy that is still a cause of debate today. However, for many girls abortion is not even an option. Often abortions go against a girl's religious or personal beliefs, or they do not feel they have the means to pay for an abortion. In these cases, a girl who does not want her baby will give it up for adoption. Although this appears to be a logical choice for a pregnant teen to make, it is one that comes with much suffering and heartache. While teenage mothers are the source of most babies that are adopted, every year out of one–hundred babies they give birth to, less than five are given up for adoption (Guernsey 41). The hardest part for many of the girls is the separation anxiety they feel once their baby has left. While certain adoption agencies offer girls the chance to keep in contact with their ...
