The gender question I added is in order to show the effect the answers have through
gender. I wanted the question to be a general and unbiased answer so this would be
indicated within the results. This is especially known as part of one of the answers it
speaks about females portrayed in rock music and the sexist issues. I want equal
societies views rather than biased opinions.

Here shows the ages of the people concerning the answers of the questionnaire. As you
can see the majority of the people range between the category of between 13- 18 ears of
age. I personally choose to ask people of this age as it is my main target audience and I
therefore need there opinion on my magazine as the others answered wouldn’t improve
my magazine.

The information shows the genres of music of whom the audience majority listen to. As you
can see they're is more of a wide range of answers with the majority being
Rock/Alternative. By the majority being Rock/Alternative shows I targeted my specific target
audience for there answers. However by having a mix of genres with ‘POP’ also being very
popular it shows to me that rock/Alternative music has a specific target audience to meet.

Less than once a

As you can see from the results a large majority of my audience spend money less than ‘once
a month’ on music e.g. magazines, tickets. It indicates to me that there is a gap in the market
for the target audience as they could not be regular buyers of a magazine as they usually are
produced every week such as Kerrang. It could mean they're a problem with competitors
which I could improve on such as high pricing.
7. 5)
Yes
No
This here shows the ratio of people buying any genre of music magazine. As you can see
even thou the majority do say yes a large majority also say no. This would link in with the
previous results of the amount spent on music e.g. tickets, magazine etc. was limited.
Personally it shows there's a gap in the market in order to improve. Especially as well as the
question of genres of music tells us that a large popularity of people who filled out this
questionnaire listen to rock/alternative music it proves to us that some must be in the
category of ‘no’.

The blue line shows an indication of what the favourite section of the target audiences
magazine is. This is so I can particular work on this bit and included it in order to meet what
would attract the target audience to a magazine. From my results its apparent that I must
work on and included exclusives.
The red line represents which part of the magazine the would read naturally the coverlines
appearing on the front this must be a part of the front cover especially.
9. 8)
Yes
No
I asked the question here if people ever listen to the genre of rock. Before I asked if
rock/alternative was the audiences main genre and the results appear less. However here
we can see a large majority to listen to rock. This indicated I have been focusing on a correct
target audience for the genre of my style of magazine and the opinions will be focused.

From the audience of whom previously answered ‘yes’ to question 9 of ever answering rock
music I then went on to ask how often this occurs. The results show that majority of these
reults shows ‘Everyday’. This links in with question to focusing on the idea of how I selected a
target audience to ask of whom will be suitable for a accurate outcome.

Q
On this question I wanted to find out what similar magazines my target audience would be
interested. To me this would indicate a wide range of thing.eg. Style, contents etc. By the
majority of the audience liking Kerrang it proves my idea of a magazine style and the style of
the target audience of whom purchase this style of magazine are similar. As Kerranag
contains the modern and alternative style of rock of which I wish to produce it indicates I'm
asking the correct target audience and the style of the magazine.

Here I asked people the sort of colour scheme of which you would typically expect of a
alterative rock magazine. ‘Bold/Bright’ colours as you can see has no percentage as this
would be associated with POP music. The majority was a mix of both bright and dark
colours. To some this may be surprising as people would gain the idea that rock music is
mainly dark colours. However as its alterative and modern we look at adding bright alarming
colours. From previous magazine research I see the high use of red and yellow cooperated. It
gave me an idea of what the target audience would expect and to adapt my magazine to
this.

A list of all the various fonts I picked for typography of my alterative rock magazine were
displayed. I asked participants for there selection of the best one. I can clearly see from my
results that the high majority have gone for option number 4. This to me therefore
indicates I will also use this font in order to meet the target audience. As they have chosen
it means that they can clearly read it and that its suitable to the alterative rock theme I am
aiming to meet.
14. 13 & 14)-
Haley Williams
Pete Wentz
Dave Grohl
Billy Joe
Armstrong
Here I asked my audience whom out of these people have the most heard of. To me it gave an
insight of what style of rock they are most likely to listen to and for me to look how that artist
has become the most well known.
For question 14 I also asked of these people whom would they like to see. At the time I
thought this would indicate the style of person they wanted to see . Even thou this did happen
if I was to redo this question I wouldn’t re-add this question as it didn’t really improve my
magazine.
15. 16)
Yes
No
During the research I began to discover a lack of involvement of women's representation
upon the cover of a rock magazine. Even thou there are less women involved within the rock
genre I personally feel that they are also simply not counted on either. I wanted to ask the
audience what they thought about this topic also.
From the results you can see the obviously people do think women are treated unfairly. I
added a few key comments to see a overall opinion. I think it allows me to change and
improve my magazine to a modern adaption to meet the true target audience fairly.
16. 16)
On a few magazine of which I have researched I have found that a member of the band
usually a the main one such as the singer will do a ‘exclusive’ interview from there
perspective on the band. To me I wanted to know what my audience though of this as I
though it could be interesting for the magazine.
As you can see I have included key quotes. All of the feedback I had back had positives
within it. I personally think I am going to follow through with this idea as clearly the
audience appreciate the idea I have though of. It will give my magazine a alternative from
other magazines.
17. 1) Why did I ask the questions? I have the questions to find out specific target audience
firstly . I wanted to know if my view of whom the target is and what it is was the same. For
example with the issue of sexist I wanted to know whether it was just my theory or other
opinions.
2) What was the results? That overall what I thought was my target audience is correct and
that the style I also imagined fits and meet the target audience.
3) What was wrong? I was surprised with the number of people of whom are purchase music
e.g. tickets, magazine etc. less than once a month meaning people aren't willing to easily
spend money on excess things. Also I think in some cases I have asked unnecessary
irrelevant contents for my magazine which was to specific and example of this is question
14.
4) What does this mean in terms of your target audience? It means term of my target
audience that they have stay the same as I had originally thought. The only difference is
they are much less likely to purchase and spend money upon a magazine.
5) What does this mean in terms of genre? That the audience answers as specific to the
genre of music. As the majority of people within the surveyor of this are most likely t be
middle class as they are my peers I assume this is why they aren't over spending
6) What are you now thinking of doing for your magazine? I will stick to the same target
audience and idea however I will ensure that the magazine costs less in order to provide
for my target audience.
