2. From my questionnaire results, I can see that the majority of my audience will be
Female, however a large proportion of my audience will be Male. This tells me that
I am right to use a gender neutral colour scheme as my audience will be both
males and females.
3. 17 people out of the 20 asked were aged 16-25. This tells me that my primary
audience are aged 16-25, so I will be aiming my magazine at people in social groups E
and D. However 3 people aged 25-35+ also answered my questionnaire. This tells me
that my secondary audience are people in social groups C2, C1 and B. This informs me
that I will need to take into consideration the large audience when I create my
magazine and make sure it appeals to everyone in these age brackets.
4. The alternative genre of music was the most preferred genre, with punk music a
close second. This suggests that the audience of my magazine all prefer different
styles of music, I will therefore have to cover a wide range of music within my
magazine to make sure all of the readers are catered for. This will make my
magazine a hybrid magazine.
5. My results tell me that 7 people who answered my survey don’t read music
magazines but the other 13 people do. Out of those 13 people, 4 of them read Q
magazine, this tells me that my target audience like the layout and content of Q
magazine so I should research that magazine heavily as well as NME, this will help
with the content and layout of my magazine and will appeal to more people if I
take inspiration from these magazines.
6. 8 out of the 20 people questioned said that they listened to music for more than 10 hours
a week. This helps me as when I create my music magazine I will keep in mind that the
majority of readers have a passion for music and listen to it frequently. This also shows
that they are more likely to enjoy reading interviews and reviews as they enjoy music.
Someone who doesn’t listen to music as frequently may not enjoy these features as much
as more general features like music news etc.
7. Half of the people questioned stated that they would be willing to spend £2-£3 on a
music magazine. This informs me that I should price my magazine within this price
range as the majority of people would be willing to pay this. Only 3 people said they
would spend over £3, so to price my magazine at £3 or over would not be a wise
decision as most of my target audience would not be willing to pay this price so I would
lose custom. Also, if I priced it under £2 I would lose money as although 7 people said
they would pay £1-£2 for my magazine, most people would pay more, meaning I could
use more money to improve the quality of my magazine but also gain a profit.
8. Another question I included on my questionnaire was, “What features would you be
interested in reading articles about?”. The results to this question have helped me
decide what type of feature I can make my Double Page Spread as well as include
within the rest of my magazine. As 18 out of the 20 people surveyed said they would
prefer to see Concert/Gig Pre/Reviews, I will definitely include this within my
magazine. 17 people said they would like to read about New Music Releases and 12
said they would like to read interviews with New and Established Bands/Artists. After
looking at these results I have decided that my Double Page Spread will be a mixture
of all three. I will be reviewing a gig of a new artist while including a small interview
with them too.
9. The results for this question have helped me focus on what my target audience would like to see
and what would make them buy my magazine. As half of the people have said that the magazine
Cover is what usually makes them buy a music magazine, I will have to make sure my cover looks
professional and appealing to my Primary and Secondary Audience, as well as this 8 people said
it was the Artists/Musicians included within the magazine that made them want to buy a music
magazine, knowing this, I will have to research a lot of musicians from different musical genres
(Indie, Alternative, Rock, Punk etc.), to make sure that my magazine covers all types of music
tastes so it appeals to the majority of people within my target audience. 9 people agreed that it
was the Articles Included within the magazine that made them want to buy/read a music
magazine. This tells me that I music include a wide range of articles within my magazine to make
it appeal to a number of people, but also include more of the articles that my target audience
would like to se, this is another reason that the results from the previous question have helped
me in the making of my magazine. Some people agreed that it was more than one of the
features that make them want to buy a music magazine, so I must make sure all of these
features are appealing and appropriate to my target audience.
