1. Risk Assessment
As I am directing the opening sequence of the film, it is then my responsibility to identify the hazards involving equipment, location and also
“common sense” health and safety, which have to be strictly followed at all times.
2. Identified Risks Shooting Location Responsibility Alternative solution / prevention
Weather
Outdoor scenes
Natural occurrence.
No human
responsibility
If the weather is very poor and we are unable to film then we would have to arrange
an alternative day to start filming again, another problem of this is continuity as if it
is raining in one scene and then it gets too bad we are going to have to stop and re-shoot.
Prior to the arranged shooting day I shall check the weather forecast and
then check at regular points.
Unexpected illness/
clashes with other
events
All locations
Director/Actor
We will have a stand in actor if ill ben was, I shall be the stand in
actor and peter shall take over the director’s role. We will always
have a substitute in place in case of ben’s absence. Myself and David
also live out of town so there could be travel issues, in which case
Peter Barnett shall take full charge of the filming and direction and
we trust him to do so. If however there are too many absences we
shall have to re-schedule the shooting date.
Battery life
All locations
Cameraman
In the event of battery life decreasing on the camera the cameraman
will have to take responsibility to on the day of shoot, bring a spare
battery. We should also have the camera fully charged so we can
maximise filming time.
Outdoor lighting
Outdoors
N/A
Since this is a horror, supernatural we have decided to film when it is
dusk to create atmosphere. However this is only a limited time before
it gets too dark to film. So to counteract this we are going to film the
start of the opening when it is dusk to establish and try come back at
dusk until we have got all the footage.
3. Location
Restrictions
Outdoors
Director
There are no restrictions to where we are filming due to it being a
family wood, However this means that there will be members of the
public around this area so there will be some public interference. To
stop this we are going to make people aware with signs and also we
are going to pick a location where we think will still give a good
shooting location and where not many people go.
Storage problems
and equipment
All locations
Cameraman
There may be some problems with some of the equipment for
example the camera may not save on the memory card so to ensure
we can store all of the footage we are going to take a spare memory
card. As for the rest of the equipment we are going to take an extra
camera in case there are malfunctions with the primary camera. Also
none of the equipment is our own so we shall take every care to keep
all equipment working and safe.
General Health and
Safety
All locations
All
Obviously our own safety is the key so to keep ourselves as safe as
possible we are not going to go to any locations or perform any
actions that may put ourselves in danger, particularly due to the
location of where are filming. There will be many H and S issues,
tripping, cuts from thorns, the general public and also the gravel of
the path could cause injuries. So to improve health and Safety we are
going to take a first aid kit in case of these injuries and then we can
treat them.
Public Interference
All locations
Director (me)
With the shooting location being a public right of way we are going to
get some interference from the public, to notify the public we are
going to have signs near the shooting location. Also, before we begin
to film a scene we are going to check the surrounding perimeter so
that we know we are not going to be interrupted during filming.
However if a member of the public does stray into the shot we shall
notify them and prematurely delete the footage or ask the persons if
4. they wish to be shown (ask them for permission). Some members of
the public who may also be around the area we shall scout to see if
they are going to be a threat to any of us and if they are we shall move
to a further away location so we can complete the shoot.
Software
Editing suite
Chief and Co editor
We are going to be using Final cut for the final cut of our opening
sequence, which is a reliable tool for editing video footage. However
there are possibilities that the software could crash at any time so
we are going to back up the footage before we begin the editing and
also after each minute change to the footage we are going to save the
project. There is also a large chance that we loose footage during
editing or even lose the final cut so we are each going to save it onto
our personal memory sticks.
Following the
storyboard
All locations
Director and actors
We must always follow the storyboard and also think on the spot for
improvements to make it more gripping. But we must always stick to
the overview so that we can keep to the time frame and also the
different shots.
