4. Layout of features
• From the second image it is clear the
layout has improved drastically. There
is a format to the stories and the titles
and it is clear which story belongs to
which heading.
• There are more features on my finished
product and this makes the cover more
eye catching and interesting for the
audience to read, for example, my
other pictures and the circle pop out.
• There is a clear structure between the
context included on the front cover,
there isn’t a long paragraph to discuss
each story, it is short and snappy and
keeps things simple.
• From the final product the layout of the
images is much more effective and
interesting. They are at different angles
and are set out in a way that makes it
clear to the audience which picture
belongs to which story and I think this
is useful to the audience.
• The structural layout of the stories in
the first task isn’t interesting or eye
catching and it doesn’t seem to include
any hints as to what the story is about,
the stories seem to be lost on the page.
5. Photography
• The photography in the finished
product is a lot more effective. It is
much brighter and taken from high
angle to low angle and eye line
shots. They create effect for the
magazine.
• However, in the first task, the
pictures are dark, and don’t seem to
bear much story or significance.
They are just taken at eye line shots
and non seem to be of interest or of
interest to the audience.
6. Fonts
• The fonts in the full product
vary, yet there is still a
consistency to them, there is a
common theme to the fonts
and they are effective to the
magazine and present the
stories clearly.
• The first task demonstrates 3
simple fonts which are varied,
yet aren’t used effectively and
the contents’ page especially
seems to look out of place.
• Because of the lack of varying
font on the front cover, the
stories seem to be hard to
differentiate between and the
cover becomes dull and boring
to read.
7. Modes of address
• By just comparing the images
from the full product, it is clear
persuasive language is used,
such as ‘biggest’ and ‘check
out’, it is much less formal
than the firs task.
• Comparing with images from
the first task, there is hardly
any personal address or any
emotive language to connect
with the audience and that is
something I wanted to capture
when creating my magazine
8. Mistakes
• From the first task, both the
contents and front cover are
lacking any unique selling point
or identity. The fonts are boring
and the images are uninspiring.
• The title of the magazine is also
lost on the front cover and doesn’t
look as effective as it could and it
is almost the same size as one of
the headers.
• The background of the contents
page looks childish and not very
well thought out, this could’ve
been because of time management
or because of lack of knowledge
as to how to create a magazine.
9. How I advanced
• In my full product I made sure I
made the headings more eye
catching and included varying font
that would look effective on my
cover.
• I made sure the layout of my
contents page followed a structure
and that it included enough
information on the stories included.
• I chose lighting and images that
were bright enough and edited them
to give them a better impact for my
magazine.
• I included multiple features and
different areas to shoot my images
in to make the magazine look more
interesting also.
