Dinosaur Lesson Plan 
Thursday Assure 
Analyze the Learner 
I am going to be teaching my 2nd grade student the history of dinosaurs and introduce the 
different types of dinosaurs that existed during this time period. There are 20 students in my 
class, 11 boys and 9 girls. The students are 60% African American, 30% Caucasian and 10% 
Hispanic. Two of the students have mild ADHD. 
State Objective 
Students will be able to explain how we know dinosaurs existed by creating hypothesis, 
after reading a story. Students will measure a dinosaur and sing a song. They will do this with 
80% accuracy. 
Select Methods, Media, and Materials 
This lesson will consist of the book called, “What Ever Happened to the Dino”, a 
podcast, song and a science activity. 
Utilize Media and Material 
Preview the Material: I will ask the students how we know dinosaurs existed. 
Prepare the Material: In order to be prepared I will set up the science activity. I will 
set up the scratch paper, string, and paper chains for the students. 
Prepare the Environment: Students will complete the activity in the gym or outside if 
weather permits.
Prepare the Learner: I will ask the students how they know something existed if it is 
not here now. 
Provide a Learning Experience: Students will sing the song, “One Friendly Dinosaur”. 
Require Learner Participation 
Students will be working in groups for each project. 
Evaluate and Revise 
Students will write a few sentences on what they think happened to the dinosaurs.
