The lesson plan is for a 2nd grade class about dinosaurs. It involves teaching the students about the different time periods dinosaurs existed through reading books, observing time period charts, and singing a song. The students will demonstrate their learning by creating a mural depicting what the earth looked like when dinosaurs lived. There are 20 students in the class, with varying demographics and two have mild ADHD. The objectives are for the students to learn the dinosaur time periods, understand size and time concepts, and accurately depict the earth during the dinosaur era by the end of the lesson.

1. Dinosaur Lesson Plan
Monday Assure
Analyze the Learner
I am going to be teaching my 2nd grade student the history of dinosaurs and introduce the
different types of dinosaurs that existed during this time period. There are 20 students in my
class, 11 boys and 9 girls. The students are 60% African American, 30% Caucasian and 10%
Hispanic. Two of the students have mild ADHD.
State Objectives
Students will be able to tell you the exact time periods dinosaurs existed. The students
will learn to understand and talk about time and size concepts and learn what the earth looked
like for the dinosaurs back then. They will sing a song, observe a chart of time periods from now
to the past, and read books. They will demonstrate what they learned by drawing a mural of the
earth back then. By the end of the day the students will have 90% accuracy.
Select Methods, Media, and Material
Majority of the materials needed for this lesson will be a computer and poster boards.
We will use a storytelling YouTube video that I created called, “Dinosaurs of Long Ago” which
will be a repeat after me song. I will have several posters of the land and a chart with time
periods.
Utilize Media and Material:
Preview the Materials: The first step of the lesson will involve me sending a link of my
blog about dinosaurs to the parents, so they can keep up with what the students are learning. In
2. the classroom, I will read a book called, “The Day of the Dinosaur”. After reading the book we
will discuss the different dinosaurs we encountered in the story and what time periods they
existed in.
Prepare the Material: In order to be prepared I will e-mail the parents a twitter link that
shows a user fun dinosaur facts. I will encourage the parents to at least share one fun fact with
their children.
Prepare the Environment: In order to introduce the idea of dinosaurs, I will decorate
my room and door with dinosaurs and fun facts about them.
Prepare the Learner: I will prepare the students by changing their name cards with
dinosaur name cards.
Provide a Learning Experience: I will have each student create a voki that resembles a
dinosaur of their choice and have it ask me a question that they want to learn throughout the
lesson.
Require Learner Participation:
The students will be encouraged to raise their hands and ask questions. The songs will
require everyone to sing along and be active.
Evaluate and Revise:
The students will be evaluated on how well they create a mural of the land the dinosaurs
lived on.
