The Challenge
Quality of Experience is highly subjective and determined by subscriber’s
expectations . Subscribers expect to stream movies without any buffering and to
download files at maximum available speeds. Due to TCP inefficiencies, latency,
packet loss, packets arriving out of order and other WAN complications, end users
are unable to reach the full potential of the bandwidth package they purchased
and feel frustrated at their reduced bandwidth utilization.
The XELEMAX Solution - CDN “On Demand”
XELEMAX technology acts like a “CDN on Demand”. As a subscriber begins a
TCP session, XELEMAX quickly begins “prefetching” the content and
downloading it to the XELEMAX server at the operator’s perimeter. Applying
patented algorithms, and leveraging the operator’s direct link to the internet
backbone, XELEMAX “buffers” all content (http, ftp, encrypted, etc) on behalf
of the customer, quickly pushing it to the customer’s device - dramatically
reducing latency and erratic service caused by dropped TCP packets. XELE-
MAX supplies a unique, faster TCP stack for every TCP session - providing a
faster drop recovery, and increasing content delivery speed by up to 10x.

2. How XELEMAX Works
The XELEMAX Solution complements other technologies by optimizing traffic not
localized by other solutions (e.g un-cacheable traffic, encrypted data, and less
popular or other non-localized traffic).
The example to the right follows the TCP behavior of a European subscriber down-
loading content from the Unites States. The subscriber requests a download from a
remote server 130ms away from their current location. The subscriber purchased a
package of 15Mbps each and is trying to download a file from a server that easily
supports that bit rate. In fact, the server is able to serve up to a speed of 250Mbps.
The subscriber’s laptop is connected via their home access point that is located in
another room. While reception is good, it is not perfect. From the beginning of the
download, the subscriber’s download speed increases with each packet.
The XELEMAX Solution, installed at the Service Provider’s gateway with a distance
of approximately 35ms from the subscriber’s home. As the session begins the
XELEMAX Solution has taken over the connection and started downloading at a
speed of 250Mbps. The subscriber benefits from having their requested data
“pre-fetched” by XELEMAX, and their download starts from a distance of 35ms
location, instead of 130ms.
