3. Graphic Design Production
Advantages of working in this medium
An advantage of this is that Photoshop allows an infinite
amount of possibilities to use in your final design. In
conclusion, this medium is good because its is a professional
software and it allows for so much creativity which is great
when your working to design a poster because you can then
create a poster that looks aesthetically pleasing to the
viewer.
Disadvantages of working in this medium
Because I’m not one of the creator of Photoshop, I don’t know
where everything is… So finding things to use that are fitting for
my personal poster, creation of choice can be difficult.
It’s not simple
Not easy to use
5. Graphic Design Production
Strength: A common
theme used in the Coca
Cola adverts is Santa
which draws in more
sales because Santa
representational of
Christmas and Santa is a
very welcoming and
joyful character so
that’s why Santa is a
strength in my book.
Weakness: Blank Space where I
could have added a quote or more
detail to the advert thus making it
look more aesthetically pleasing and
fundamentally making the poster
attract more people to looking at it
and probably causing more people
to both consciously and sub-
consciously notice the poster and
probably would make more want to
buy it if I added something special.
Strength: Both adverts have
a Coca Cola bottle to
promote and show that when
Santa has a Coca Cola he’s in
a good mood. This is more
useful then you would think
because if Santa was
unhappy, then it would
suggest that Coca Cola is ‘just
a drink’ and not one that
would be good to buy. This
pushes the agenda that Coke
is joyful drink along with the
vibrant colours in the adverts,
the happiness and the sound
in the video adverts that Coca
Cola promotes to you.
Weakness: In many coca
cola adverts they quote
there slogans to catch
the eyes of the viewer
and draw more attention
to the products and
brand thus selling more
products. (In terms of the
fact that I didn’t use this
technique, it was a
weakness).
Strength: Coca
Cola logo so
people know what
the product is
which will cause
more people to be
interested if they
keep on seeing
that logo in
adverts.
6. Radio Production
Advantages of working in this medium
You can layout audio on a timeline in any specific order you want. As a result, this enabled me to make
the radio advert.
You can change volume and the sound of the audio via effects like fade in, bass and highpass to make a
better ad, which will make the listener soak into the audio because the effects enhance the experience of
the audio.
I get to explore and learn a new software which will make my more efficient in the future when using it.
Also, I would say that another advantage of using this is that I’ve developed more audio editing skills
which will certainly be useful In the future of the course.
Disadvantages of working in this medium
It’s not designed specifically for audio editing such as software's like fruity loops and garage band so it can
sometimes be hard to work with the software to create something with professionalism.
It was hard to work with because it was my first time using the program there I was unknowledgeable of
certain things such as effects and presents that I could’ve used in my final product to make it more
aesthetically pleasing and overall more like and advert.
It was usually slow in production because downloading the audio, lining the audio, editing the audio and
thinking of useful ideas and themes for the ad took time and hard thought
7. Radio Production
The main difference between my groups radio ad production and an actual coke radio ad
production is that my groups one was less professional because everything but the commentary
(Recorded with device) were mp3 files that were compressed (worse quality then real ads) when
downloaded from YouTube. However, that doesn’t mean that it wasn’t good because evidently it
had many ingredients that pro ads have, such as music, various sound effects, transitions and
fundamentally, the commentary. Also, the real Coke ads have a big group of people working on
there ads so that the don’t violate the rules of advertisement material. In my group I had 2 or 3
people in it so it was less organised in comparison. Also we only had roughly a week to complete
the ad compared to the weeks/ months that Coca Cola has on there’s.
8. Radio Production
I would say that the strengths of my product are that you can tell that it is an advert and it has ambient
sound effects which makes what the ad is try to sell, a good rep and vibe about it which is good because
the point of having an ad is to sell the product and I believe me and my group did this very well. Another
strength that I would like to point out is that we used clean audio transitions, effects and also carefully
layered out audio which turned out smoothly along the timeline.
However, because time, organisation and the knowledge in the editing software wasn’t up to a high/
professional standard, our group slightly suffered in that respect because we weren’t in complete control of
what we wanted the advert to sound like. The outcome of the product wasn’t efficient in comparison to the
real Coca Cola adverts because they could create a more effective ad that grabs the listeners attention more
because they had a higher skillset. But as a result of this, I can learnt from what I would need to improve
from and apply that to future work to make it better listen to an understand.
The changes that I would make to make the product better is that I wouldn’t do a one take commentary so
that it would be more clear because when listening to it, it wasn’t very and it was because we where in a
rush and only did it in one take which was satisfactory. Also I would have learn more audio effects and
made the audio more retro sounding, adding in cracking audio sounds and other sounds that would
enhance the radio ad and making it stand out more form the rest, thus selling the product, fundamentally,
hence people prefer something that stands out from the rest and that is good to the ear.
9. Video Game Experiments
I tried adding motion blur
to make Mario look more
alive and in motion
jumping, running and
falling moving.
I tried animating objects so that not
the only thing is moving is Mario so it
doesn’t just seem like Mario is behind
a photo but actually an environment
with physics. (More Realism so people
can connect to what there seeing/
playing)
I was experimenting with transitions, other then just the fade
in/out so that it some aesthetic feature that catches the eye of
the view and that is fitting from the game and the style of the
game. Also this is nostalgic for many people because this
ending was use in a lot around the times of Tom and Jerry and
other cartoons in that era. Therefore the 16-19 year-olds will
remember this video game vividly because this and ultimately
will make people remember the coca cola feature to this game
as well.
I green screened snow falling from an mp4 file and made the
floor snowed on so that it links in well with the Winter/Christmas
theme that Coca Cola invest in heavily because they know that
most people like Christmas and are willing to spend money on a
lot of things to celebrate the occasion (i.e. Coca Cola).
10. Video Game Production
Advantages of working in this medium
It was fairly easy to learn Premiere and you can add effects to both audio and video
to enhance the viewing and listening experience of the game, in action.
Also an advantage of using Photoshop is that its frame by frame so it’s hard to make
a mistake when animating.
I was already experienced in Photoshop which meant that I was very efficient when
using the software.
Disadvantages of working in this medium
Because it’s a new software for me, sometimes, for example, trying to find a specific effect
or knowing what effect does can be hard, which makes production slow at times.
I was experience with Photoshop, however, animating was completely new to me so I
struggled at the start and actually made a vast amount of mistakes.
Ironically, I find disadvantages of working in this medium or any medium for that matter
advantages! This is because I learn from the disadvantages and then I’m able to improve
and learn from them and how to overcome them in the future. Personally, I won’t necessary
improve with advantages because I won’t have learnt anything new to apply to future work
or I won’t be able to
11. Video Game Production
Similarities
Differences
The main physical difference is that my Santa Mario video is an 8-bit
game which means its pixelated, whereas the farming game isn’t.
Also, these is more organisation and management with the farming
game but in the Mario game its more of a parkour game where you’ll
lose health or die if you fail. In terms of what the games are trying to
promote/advertise, they both do it in different ways. In the farming
game they promote it via growing crops and other things as well as
you can clearly see from the picture which I guess can be on your farm
for hours if not days or months, unlike the Mario one which will be
only seconds, which is really good because you’ll see that brand
frequently which means you may like it more and therefore if there’s a
choice between KFC and McDonald you’ll be more likely choose
McDonalds because of this game and the promotion of it. Also ones
2D the others 3D and bird-eye-view.
Both games run on low resolutions and there both trying
to promote a product. Some people feel like the products
have more value because they feature in a game, film or
TV Series that they like so they are more likely to buy that
product. They both don’t try and shove the products into
your face too much however they both do show them in
large images like the logos which is good for the brand.
My Santa Mario game is good for my first game but it
could definitely need some work done to it to make it
professional like the farming game on the right which
obviously have more planning and ideas behind it.
However I would say that both games are both similarly
aesthetically pleasing in what they are both trying to
achieve.
12. When I did the
animation in
Photoshop, I made
the grass green and
then forgot that I was
doing a winter theme
and wanted to add a
white ground to made
it more fitting for the
atmosphere of what I
wanted to do for the
game.
Video Game Production
When I added a shake effect I Had a complication
which was that when the dark overlay which caused
a circle came into formulation, the boarders of it at
the sides where swaying in and out of frame which
made that section a bit less smooth, however, it still
turned out well in the end and I could just say it was
a glitch in the game if anyone asks.
Weakness
Strengths
Changes
Mario was out of
proportion from the
rest of the surrounding
objects, which isn’t
much of a problem.
However, it would’ve
looked smoother if he
was a bit smaller.
I used a nostalgic ending transition which is used in
classic cartoons such as Tom and Jerry, which put
the cherry on the cake when it came to this video
game production. Also I think the unique Santa
aspect of Mario linked in well with Coca Cola.
Another Strength of the video game that I produced was that the
whole atmosphere like the falling snow, motion blur, stairs (In the first
half of the game), sounds & music, cans, clouds, flag and castle was
all well synced together nicely and wasn’t over the top, but actually
quite professional.
The pixel Santa Mario that I created in
Photoshop is well detailed and looks like Mario
in the real game.
I would have
made the
animations
more complex.
13. Comparison
Which product do you believe advertises the product the
best? Why?
Personally, I believe that the product that advertises the best is the Video Game because
people will repeatedly come back to the game because they like it and therefore they will
see the product frequently and then more people will buy the products more often.
Which of your products is the most professional? Why?
I would also say that the video game that I made is the most professional out of the
three because I spent the most time on the video game. As a result of me spending a lot
of time on the video game, the effects, visuals & sounds all merged together to
formulate a clean, fitting and professional video game with advertisement of Coca Cola.
