MIND MAP: INITIAL IDEAS
Colour scheme has a huge factor on all of these ideas, being that they are all visual productions. Therefore the
inclusion of various, vibrant colours is a must be staple design choice throughout all of these productions, as bright
colours tend to be the primary element which draws consumers in. Colours that also relate to different aspects of
every production draw in particular groups of people, such as yellow and or pink for the advertisement, which are
examples of colours that tend to associate with cleanliness and hygiene, likely due to there overall vibrancy and
pristine appearance. This would match up with the so called cleaning product, as well as entice a mass audience
towards it, due to its stand out appearance compared to similar branded items. That’s what I want for all of my
productions, I want the consumer to look at the enticing logo and or design and immediately have an idea to what
the product may be, without being left utterly confused. Similarly a gaming related product such as a poster or
magazine, in my mind would have a colour scheme consisting of many shades of red, partially due to the constant
release of gory games, scary games and war games of which generally include a whole lot of violence, therefore the
colour scheme will match up with said themes which will resonate with that particular audience. On top of that, if
countless people are looking out for this specific colouration, this design will have a far more significant initial
impact on the consumer, over something a whole lot less vibrant and powerful, that doesn’t peak there interests
being that it has nothing to do with the product they want. In contrast, not all games are based around violence,
plus if everyone goes for the same colour scheme its possible that the product would be lost in a sea of similarity.
So if I were to create an RPG (Role Playing Game) based product, being that it’s my favourite type of game, I would
likely use vibrant tones of purple or blue, as I believe these colours relate to magic and fantasy. I say this because,
RPG’s are usually based around all things mystical and someone like myself may instinctively know what the
product is based around and what it entails, off of the colours alone. Finally a sport/football related product,
specifically a magazine, would have to dawn an extremely vibrant design, as there are so many sport orientated
magazines out there to be read. For this I would choose reds and yellows, this is mainly due to there powerful vivid
aesthetic compared to other colours, as you want your product to be the most intriguing when around similar
products of its kind. Furthermore, there tends to be many images on the front cover of a football magazine,
primarily including famous footballers which is the main vocal point of the front cover, so you need something
equally as vivid when put next to these images, therefore the inclusion of these vibrant colours will make all front
line stories easy to read in this whole jumble of images due to there standout appearance, plus it will add to the
enticing effect it has on people.
Target audience is of high importance for each of these ideas, as one must know early on who their
primary audience is and how they are going to incorporate certain aspects into their works later in
the project, which appeal to the age group they’ve selected. Therefore I’ve already thought upon
some initial target audience’s so I can begin to work on some specific elements, which I know these
age groups will enjoy. Firstly, I have decided that the advertisement idea should be made to try and
appeal to the male gender, ranging between 40-60 years of age. I chose this particular audience, as I
believe older generations tend to watch television far more often than the youths of today, with
there being a wide array of different media based entertainment available to enjoy, whereas the
audience I’ve selected tend to feel far more comfortable using technology they fully understand. On
top of that, I wanted to choose an audience who would come across my production frequently and
fully understand the aspects involved, meaning they would understand the irony of a completely
useless product in a commercial/infomercial as they’ve seen so many like it beforehand, therefore I
didn’t want to choose an audience too old to understand the concepts involved, nor did I want to
choose a younger audience who likely wouldn’t understand from the get-go. However, the decision
to go for a male demographic was simply based upon who would take less offence, if I were to
include any vulgar humour in the production, plus stereotypically males tend to watch television far
more than females, generally due to their association with laziness (myself included).
Secondly the primary audience for the poster will be aimed at the 18-30 year old age demographic, I
decided upon this age range because if I were to create a poster the likely genre of game the poster
would end up advertising, would be an RPG (role playing game) those of which tend to be rated 18.
The reasoning behind an RPG is because they are my favourite genre of game and sadly for those too
young to purchase it alone, they tend to be quite gory and from my experience the more violence
involved the better the game will be, as their studio isn’t bothered about trying to keep it child
friendly, much like a Disney tale but in fact the exact opposite. Furthermore, the people purchasing
these games tend to have a lot of free time on their hands, therefore I wanted to choose an age
category who was old enough to purchase it as well as enjoy it, that’s not to say older audiences nor
younger audiences don’t enjoy these games, but primarily I believe this group would appreciate it the
most, with more time on their hands. In addition, I believe males are once again the primary gender
for this production due to the excessive violence and dark themes involved, that of which women
aren’t generally accustom to, plus typically video game companies generally create products aimed at
the male psyche, that of which include gore (as already mentioned) and sexual themes and therefore
women won’t gain the same satisfaction from playing/using it; Once again that’s not the same for
every female, they can enjoy these products just the same as men, however typically males favour
video-games over women and therefore will be likelier candidates to be drawn in by this poster.
Finally, the primary audience for the magazine production will be aimed at the 20-40 year old age
demographic. This decision is partially due to the lack of attention span from younger audiences,
although I’m aware that many people including younger audiences will be enticed by the colourful
display on the front cover of the magazine, however when they come to turn the page and actually
read it in detail they will come to the assumption that there are far more enjoyable things to do than
read up on football and video games. Whereas a slightly more mature audience will feel far more
intrigued to read up on their favourite football players or upcoming video games, rather than be
enticed by the vivid pictures alone. Once again males are the primary gender for this production
being that men’s football is a far more popular sport than women’s football and video games tend to
appeal towards the male psyche, although I have to mention one last time that’s not the same for
every female or male, it’s merely the typical gender association with these respective activities.
I have many inspirations for each of these ideas, ones that I have taken massive influence from and others that have given me minor points that I can implement
into my works. Firstly the advertisement, with there being quite a substantial list of existing products I can take massive pointers from that will vastly improve the
quality of my production, with the main theme of this list being infomercials and commercial which all seem to share the same trait. This trait being how bizarrely
humorous each of these productions seem to be, they’re loud, irritating and slightly strange. This influenced the idea of creating a skit/mockery of these existing
commercials greatly. They just fill me with a plethora of hilarious ideas I can include in my own production, with so many elements already being comedy gold, I
merely have to over exaggerate them even more, to the point where its obvious to the viewer that it’s an ironic display on existing commercials of today, enabling
them to enjoy the production differently to how they would view an actual commercial. However, the pinnacle inspiration for this advertisement section are the
infamous “CILLIT BANG” commercials, they just reiterate everything I just said to a perfect degree and they include almost everything I want out of these comedic
commercial, including; an incessantly irritable spokesperson who never stops shouting, an annoying slogan which sticks to the brain, extras who are quite clearly
acting and giving the most pristine opinion on the product at hand, as well as the obvious lack of any negativity surrounding the product at all as to make it
appear like some sort of miracle product. If I am to go down this creative route, this is exactly what I want from this advertisement idea, something that can
resonate with viewers who constantly see commercials like this throughout their time watching television, trying endlessly to grab the spotlight just for one
moment through any means possible (mainly by shouting). Next up, the inspiration surrounding the magazine idea mainly stems around the existing “FOUR FOUR
TWO” football orientated magazine, due to it’s major popularity in the football community, as well as its constant release of issues which display an array of
vibrant colours and famous footballing stars on the front cover, as a means to grab the attention of possible readers. Each issue is professionally made and of a
great quality and as mentioned they even attract the attention of famous footballers of which they usually have an interview with, which allows readers to gain a
small insight into this almost unbelievable world where players are millionaires by the time they reach their late teens and massive footballing powerhouses
generate astonishing amounts of profit through highly corrupt methods. Furthermore, one can find out the valuable statistics of a high profile player or team,
which all footballing fans are interested in, as football tends to be a highly popular topic of conversation and if you know something that others don’t, it allows for
that conversation to flow and those around you will listen with intent, due to the massive interest surrounding it. What I mean is, any magazine surrounding a
huge topic such as gaming or football, is likely going to intrigue a vast amount of readers as everyone wants to know more than the previous guy and ”FOUR FOUR
TWO” has found the right formulae to do so, including; famous names and images surrounding said topic, vibrant colours which will entice anybody including
those not overly fond about the subject, bold font which lists the most existing elements of that particular issue and a unique quality to that magazine which
readers can’t find anywhere else whether that be an interview or something along those lines. These traits all combine to make a highly intriguing product and are
all elements I wish to incorporate into my own magazine, of course there will be tweaks here and there but I can’t deny the enticing effect so many of these
correlating aspects have on me. Finally the poster idea came to be from no particular inspiration, it was just another idea that stemmed from creating a magazine.
Only this time any images bared on the poster wouldn’t have any in-depth insight on the inside to what was happening, therefore I can only really say that
through creating one idea, I inspired myself to create this idea with no existing influences impacting on my decision.
Mind Map: Final ideas
I believe my radio segment will involve me trying in every
conceivable way, to try and sell my product to the masses, whilst
being interviewed by a radio host. My character as the product
salesman, will stop at nothing until he has drained every single
morsel of dignity left in his body, to try and rid of his heavy stock of
useless product. Furthermore as the show progresses my character
will slowly descend into madness as he gets more and more
agitated trying desperately to advertise his product in any positive
way. This segment will leave the radio host fearing for his safety and
will hopefully give listeners something to laugh about. This segment
will be created using the computer software adobe premier to edit
together multiple audio files, which will come together using an
audio recorder. It’s highly likely that each section of this segment
will have to be recorded several times over, therefore I will need to
assemble a file containing the best versions of different takes, of
which will be saved in my external hard drive for safe keeping, as
well as sent across to myself via email so I have a backup copy. I will
need two people throughout this radio segment, one being myself
as the sleazy salesman and the other being the radio host, for whom
I will write a script up for using Microsoft word, so that we needn’t
have to memorise any lines being that we’re not actually going to be
seen on screen.
My poster will advertise the many uses of the product in bold, vibrant lettering,
with the spray standing high and mighty in the background; as a means to try and
convey its overshadowing superiority over any other similar cleaning brands.
However, in extremely small font at the bottom of the poster will read the actual
uses of the spray, including the harmful effects it has on human skin. This will be
present so that the (fake) company isn’t sued for false allegations if the matter
came to court, whilst trying as best they can to hide these facts from the general
public, by making the text so obscenely small and therefore difficult to read. I
decided upon this because I believe it would majorly increase the absurdity of the
product and also make it funnier for the viewers overall (if they can manage to
read the small print that is). For this creation I will primarily need the use of
adobe Photoshop and through using the plethora of tools provided I will create
and or edit existing images to fit the specification of my poster design. I may also
need the support of PowerPoint or Word, if any particular fonts or images can’t
be found/created using the tools on Photoshop; this is a highly unlikely problem
to occur due to the intricacy of Photoshop, but it’s a nice backup plan if need be.
Product: Spotless spray
Intended uses: cleaning and restoration
Actual capabilities: damages most everything it comes in
contact with
My product will be a chemical spray, advertised to solve most issues involving
cleanliness and restoration. However, the comedic twist is the spray won’t work in the
way that its supposed too, in any situation put before it. In fact the spray will do more
bad than good in most every circumstance, causing harm to the user if in close
proximity of the toxic substance, unless you happen to wearing special equipment to
protect your bare skin, of which will be seen in the advertisement itself. The product
will be an actual, existing thing one can grasp, as we need to see it in the commercial
itself and will be attained by purchasing an empty spray bottle, which will then be
filled with water (as to cause no real harm to anything or anyone). This water will
then be diluted using food colouring or juice, to give the appearance of a chemical
substance and not just pure, clear water.
My advert will include myself, recording a short television segment for my very own
useless product. I shall inform viewers/consumers of the many amazing “uses” my
product provides, from cleaning household objects and appliances, to removing facial
blemishes and abnormalities and also fixing broken crockery; none of which actually
work in any way possible. For this commercial segment I will require the use of adobe
premiere, as to edit together video files, effects, images and sound bites throughout the
entirety of this short length video production. On top of that I will need a video camera
or phone to actually record the segment, one of which I will need to book out from
college and the other I can just reach out from my pocket, however if my phone
possesses a good enough video quality I shan't need to hassle to attain an expensive
video camera. Next I will need an audio recorder, in case any overdubbing is required to
improve on the overall audio clarity of the production and or too boost the hilarity of
the production, as modern day advertisements have dialogue that doesn’t always sync
up with the facial movements of the speaker, therefore all I need to do is over
exaggerate that element to a further degree of wackiness. Furthermore, I will need the
help of at least two other extras, with their main responsibility being to test the
hazardous product, whilst I as the main spokesperson stand from afar wearing special
safety equipment (whilst filming the segment itself).
Mood Board: Over the top/useless products
Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
The images I have gathered are a collection of strange, farcical and entertaining
products, none of which are intentionally amusing, but made for practical use;
whether that be: cooling your feet, brushing your cat or fixing your head of hair.
However, a viewer like myself can’t help but be overwhelmed with hysterics
when seeing these absurd products presented to us, which most everyone
wouldn’t dare to buy for practical use.
Apart from the product itself, the delivery of certain advertisements are usually
the most hilarious part, for example; the constant repetition of the product in
question, the unnatural human movement and the incessant indicating towards
the product in frame, is why to this day so many of these products are still
remembered. Furthermore these advertisements always seem to drag on forever,
as they continuously bombard you with facts and information about the product,
both useful and useless just hoping that one poor, unlucky individual gives in and
finally gives up whatever amount of money is left in their bank account, as they
stare blankly at the television screen.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
The vibrant aesthetic of most every product, influences me to do
the same with my product, as the most important aspect when
intriguing potential buyers is immediately grabbing their
attention through the screen; whether or not you sell the
product hinges greatly on the initial impression you make.
Furthermore nearly every product I have collected is strange in a
very obvious way, which is what makes them so infamous in the
first place and therefore I'd like to do the same with my product
by creating something practically useless in every conceivable
circumstance; something the world doesn’t want, nor does it
need, much like the pet rock.

Current Idea
Concept The concept for my product will be a chemical spray, advertised to solve most issues
involving cleanliness and restoration. However, the comedic twist is, the spray won't
work in any circumstance put before it. In fact the spray will likely do more bad than
good in most situations, causing harm to the user if in close proximity of the toxic
chemical, unless you happen to be wearing special equipment to protect your bare
skin.
Type of
products you
would make
The type of product I will make for my FMP will be an advertisement for a cleaning
spray called “Spotless spray”, for the use of cleaning objects and appliances, as well
as removing facial blemishes and abnormalities. I will be advertising my product
through a video advertisement, radio advertisement and also on a poster.
What you will
need to make
them
For my work I shall only need a couple of extras for both filming and recording audio,
as well as the audio recorder itself, a video camera and a couple of outfits, including
a cheap suit which most shopping channel presenters tend to wear, plus a hazmat
suit for the “safety” of my character whilst cleaning with toxic chemicals.
Audience My target audience based on the psychographic, is for those who have their “needs driven”. This
group act upon impulse and instinct, which most people tuning into the shopping channel run
on, as whatever they may be purchasing could run out of stock at any moment. Furthermore this
group doesn’t plan ahead for what they may be buying, they pay more attention to the benefits
of a product rather than paying attention to a single bad one which is perfect for my product, as
it’s just completely toxic.
Furthermore my target audience is primarily male orientated, ranging between the ages of 40-60
as I believe this group will find my work the most humorous and understand the irony involved.
Discounted ideas Reasons for not choosing this project
• Football orientated magazine • I had already created a football based magazine in a previous project and I thought doing the exact
same thing again, all be it in a slightly different way would just be lazy. On top of that I just wasn’t
interested in creating a magazine, it doesn't fuel me with a plethora of creative ideas. Furthermore,
many of the images implemented in the magazine would likely be secondary research, meaning
they would be gathered from the internet, rather than created/shot by myself. I would find this to
be quite a fraudulent method in creating my FMP, as most everything wouldn’t have any originality
whatsoever and therefore the title of a personal project, wouldn’t serve the same meaning with
nothing being my own. However, if I were to take original pictures of my own, the hassle would be
of immense volumes as it would take far too long to try and get into a football match for quite a
large sum of money (taking into account the journey and stadium costs), to then end up with very
low quality images from a far vantage point in the stands; simply put, the stress wouldn’t be worth
it. Aside from that, I could easily take pictures of myself and others playing football, but I wanted to
centralize my magazine around professional footballers, as that’s what intrigues readers, not some
uncoordinated teenager who can barely kick a football (that being myself).
• Gaming orientated magazine • Similar to the football magazine, the gaming based magazine didn’t entice me enough to elaborate
on the idea further and when the advertisement idea came to fruition, it took over from everything
else and the idea of creating a magazine was thrown to the back of my mind and discounted. On
top of that, if I were to create a gaming magazine I would likely have to cover many gaming genres,
as a means to try and appeal to a wider audience. This fact put me off the idea even more so, as I
was only interested in doing something I was fully passionate about, therefore I would have lost
interest reviewing particular games that didn’t completely encapsulate my train of thought and
bring me into their world. Furthermore, the time and immense effort it would have taken to review
several blockbuster games from start to finish, whilst taking in minor and major elements of the
game to elaborate on in a later article, to try and achieve a completely honest review from my
point of view, would have taken an inordinate amount of time and consideration that of which I
don’t think I’m completely capable of. Added to that, I’m not an expert in that field, I don’t really
know what makes a game good or bad, if I like something I just like it and its not possible for me to
transition these emotions onto a piece of paper. Everyone has their own personal opinion to why
they like or dislike something, even if that opinion happens to be quite lacking of any substance and
therefore without any real context to back up why I enjoy something other than saying “I just like
it”, it’s hard to gain any sort of response from the reader, as well as difficult to create an adequate
amount of work I and the examiner would be pleased with.

1. fmp initial plans

  • 3. Colour scheme has a huge factor on all of these ideas, being that they are all visual productions. Therefore the inclusion of various, vibrant colours is a must be staple design choice throughout all of these productions, as bright colours tend to be the primary element which draws consumers in. Colours that also relate to different aspects of every production draw in particular groups of people, such as yellow and or pink for the advertisement, which are examples of colours that tend to associate with cleanliness and hygiene, likely due to there overall vibrancy and pristine appearance. This would match up with the so called cleaning product, as well as entice a mass audience towards it, due to its stand out appearance compared to similar branded items. That’s what I want for all of my productions, I want the consumer to look at the enticing logo and or design and immediately have an idea to what the product may be, without being left utterly confused. Similarly a gaming related product such as a poster or magazine, in my mind would have a colour scheme consisting of many shades of red, partially due to the constant release of gory games, scary games and war games of which generally include a whole lot of violence, therefore the colour scheme will match up with said themes which will resonate with that particular audience. On top of that, if countless people are looking out for this specific colouration, this design will have a far more significant initial impact on the consumer, over something a whole lot less vibrant and powerful, that doesn’t peak there interests being that it has nothing to do with the product they want. In contrast, not all games are based around violence, plus if everyone goes for the same colour scheme its possible that the product would be lost in a sea of similarity. So if I were to create an RPG (Role Playing Game) based product, being that it’s my favourite type of game, I would likely use vibrant tones of purple or blue, as I believe these colours relate to magic and fantasy. I say this because, RPG’s are usually based around all things mystical and someone like myself may instinctively know what the product is based around and what it entails, off of the colours alone. Finally a sport/football related product, specifically a magazine, would have to dawn an extremely vibrant design, as there are so many sport orientated magazines out there to be read. For this I would choose reds and yellows, this is mainly due to there powerful vivid aesthetic compared to other colours, as you want your product to be the most intriguing when around similar products of its kind. Furthermore, there tends to be many images on the front cover of a football magazine, primarily including famous footballers which is the main vocal point of the front cover, so you need something equally as vivid when put next to these images, therefore the inclusion of these vibrant colours will make all front line stories easy to read in this whole jumble of images due to there standout appearance, plus it will add to the enticing effect it has on people. Target audience is of high importance for each of these ideas, as one must know early on who their primary audience is and how they are going to incorporate certain aspects into their works later in the project, which appeal to the age group they’ve selected. Therefore I’ve already thought upon some initial target audience’s so I can begin to work on some specific elements, which I know these age groups will enjoy. Firstly, I have decided that the advertisement idea should be made to try and appeal to the male gender, ranging between 40-60 years of age. I chose this particular audience, as I believe older generations tend to watch television far more often than the youths of today, with there being a wide array of different media based entertainment available to enjoy, whereas the audience I’ve selected tend to feel far more comfortable using technology they fully understand. On top of that, I wanted to choose an audience who would come across my production frequently and fully understand the aspects involved, meaning they would understand the irony of a completely useless product in a commercial/infomercial as they’ve seen so many like it beforehand, therefore I didn’t want to choose an audience too old to understand the concepts involved, nor did I want to choose a younger audience who likely wouldn’t understand from the get-go. However, the decision to go for a male demographic was simply based upon who would take less offence, if I were to include any vulgar humour in the production, plus stereotypically males tend to watch television far more than females, generally due to their association with laziness (myself included). Secondly the primary audience for the poster will be aimed at the 18-30 year old age demographic, I decided upon this age range because if I were to create a poster the likely genre of game the poster would end up advertising, would be an RPG (role playing game) those of which tend to be rated 18. The reasoning behind an RPG is because they are my favourite genre of game and sadly for those too young to purchase it alone, they tend to be quite gory and from my experience the more violence involved the better the game will be, as their studio isn’t bothered about trying to keep it child friendly, much like a Disney tale but in fact the exact opposite. Furthermore, the people purchasing these games tend to have a lot of free time on their hands, therefore I wanted to choose an age category who was old enough to purchase it as well as enjoy it, that’s not to say older audiences nor younger audiences don’t enjoy these games, but primarily I believe this group would appreciate it the most, with more time on their hands. In addition, I believe males are once again the primary gender for this production due to the excessive violence and dark themes involved, that of which women aren’t generally accustom to, plus typically video game companies generally create products aimed at the male psyche, that of which include gore (as already mentioned) and sexual themes and therefore women won’t gain the same satisfaction from playing/using it; Once again that’s not the same for every female, they can enjoy these products just the same as men, however typically males favour video-games over women and therefore will be likelier candidates to be drawn in by this poster. Finally, the primary audience for the magazine production will be aimed at the 20-40 year old age demographic. This decision is partially due to the lack of attention span from younger audiences, although I’m aware that many people including younger audiences will be enticed by the colourful display on the front cover of the magazine, however when they come to turn the page and actually read it in detail they will come to the assumption that there are far more enjoyable things to do than read up on football and video games. Whereas a slightly more mature audience will feel far more intrigued to read up on their favourite football players or upcoming video games, rather than be enticed by the vivid pictures alone. Once again males are the primary gender for this production being that men’s football is a far more popular sport than women’s football and video games tend to appeal towards the male psyche, although I have to mention one last time that’s not the same for every female or male, it’s merely the typical gender association with these respective activities. I have many inspirations for each of these ideas, ones that I have taken massive influence from and others that have given me minor points that I can implement into my works. Firstly the advertisement, with there being quite a substantial list of existing products I can take massive pointers from that will vastly improve the quality of my production, with the main theme of this list being infomercials and commercial which all seem to share the same trait. This trait being how bizarrely humorous each of these productions seem to be, they’re loud, irritating and slightly strange. This influenced the idea of creating a skit/mockery of these existing commercials greatly. They just fill me with a plethora of hilarious ideas I can include in my own production, with so many elements already being comedy gold, I merely have to over exaggerate them even more, to the point where its obvious to the viewer that it’s an ironic display on existing commercials of today, enabling them to enjoy the production differently to how they would view an actual commercial. However, the pinnacle inspiration for this advertisement section are the infamous “CILLIT BANG” commercials, they just reiterate everything I just said to a perfect degree and they include almost everything I want out of these comedic commercial, including; an incessantly irritable spokesperson who never stops shouting, an annoying slogan which sticks to the brain, extras who are quite clearly acting and giving the most pristine opinion on the product at hand, as well as the obvious lack of any negativity surrounding the product at all as to make it appear like some sort of miracle product. If I am to go down this creative route, this is exactly what I want from this advertisement idea, something that can resonate with viewers who constantly see commercials like this throughout their time watching television, trying endlessly to grab the spotlight just for one moment through any means possible (mainly by shouting). Next up, the inspiration surrounding the magazine idea mainly stems around the existing “FOUR FOUR TWO” football orientated magazine, due to it’s major popularity in the football community, as well as its constant release of issues which display an array of vibrant colours and famous footballing stars on the front cover, as a means to grab the attention of possible readers. Each issue is professionally made and of a great quality and as mentioned they even attract the attention of famous footballers of which they usually have an interview with, which allows readers to gain a small insight into this almost unbelievable world where players are millionaires by the time they reach their late teens and massive footballing powerhouses generate astonishing amounts of profit through highly corrupt methods. Furthermore, one can find out the valuable statistics of a high profile player or team, which all footballing fans are interested in, as football tends to be a highly popular topic of conversation and if you know something that others don’t, it allows for that conversation to flow and those around you will listen with intent, due to the massive interest surrounding it. What I mean is, any magazine surrounding a huge topic such as gaming or football, is likely going to intrigue a vast amount of readers as everyone wants to know more than the previous guy and ”FOUR FOUR TWO” has found the right formulae to do so, including; famous names and images surrounding said topic, vibrant colours which will entice anybody including those not overly fond about the subject, bold font which lists the most existing elements of that particular issue and a unique quality to that magazine which readers can’t find anywhere else whether that be an interview or something along those lines. These traits all combine to make a highly intriguing product and are all elements I wish to incorporate into my own magazine, of course there will be tweaks here and there but I can’t deny the enticing effect so many of these correlating aspects have on me. Finally the poster idea came to be from no particular inspiration, it was just another idea that stemmed from creating a magazine. Only this time any images bared on the poster wouldn’t have any in-depth insight on the inside to what was happening, therefore I can only really say that through creating one idea, I inspired myself to create this idea with no existing influences impacting on my decision.
  • 5. I believe my radio segment will involve me trying in every conceivable way, to try and sell my product to the masses, whilst being interviewed by a radio host. My character as the product salesman, will stop at nothing until he has drained every single morsel of dignity left in his body, to try and rid of his heavy stock of useless product. Furthermore as the show progresses my character will slowly descend into madness as he gets more and more agitated trying desperately to advertise his product in any positive way. This segment will leave the radio host fearing for his safety and will hopefully give listeners something to laugh about. This segment will be created using the computer software adobe premier to edit together multiple audio files, which will come together using an audio recorder. It’s highly likely that each section of this segment will have to be recorded several times over, therefore I will need to assemble a file containing the best versions of different takes, of which will be saved in my external hard drive for safe keeping, as well as sent across to myself via email so I have a backup copy. I will need two people throughout this radio segment, one being myself as the sleazy salesman and the other being the radio host, for whom I will write a script up for using Microsoft word, so that we needn’t have to memorise any lines being that we’re not actually going to be seen on screen. My poster will advertise the many uses of the product in bold, vibrant lettering, with the spray standing high and mighty in the background; as a means to try and convey its overshadowing superiority over any other similar cleaning brands. However, in extremely small font at the bottom of the poster will read the actual uses of the spray, including the harmful effects it has on human skin. This will be present so that the (fake) company isn’t sued for false allegations if the matter came to court, whilst trying as best they can to hide these facts from the general public, by making the text so obscenely small and therefore difficult to read. I decided upon this because I believe it would majorly increase the absurdity of the product and also make it funnier for the viewers overall (if they can manage to read the small print that is). For this creation I will primarily need the use of adobe Photoshop and through using the plethora of tools provided I will create and or edit existing images to fit the specification of my poster design. I may also need the support of PowerPoint or Word, if any particular fonts or images can’t be found/created using the tools on Photoshop; this is a highly unlikely problem to occur due to the intricacy of Photoshop, but it’s a nice backup plan if need be. Product: Spotless spray Intended uses: cleaning and restoration Actual capabilities: damages most everything it comes in contact with My product will be a chemical spray, advertised to solve most issues involving cleanliness and restoration. However, the comedic twist is the spray won’t work in the way that its supposed too, in any situation put before it. In fact the spray will do more bad than good in most every circumstance, causing harm to the user if in close proximity of the toxic substance, unless you happen to wearing special equipment to protect your bare skin, of which will be seen in the advertisement itself. The product will be an actual, existing thing one can grasp, as we need to see it in the commercial itself and will be attained by purchasing an empty spray bottle, which will then be filled with water (as to cause no real harm to anything or anyone). This water will then be diluted using food colouring or juice, to give the appearance of a chemical substance and not just pure, clear water. My advert will include myself, recording a short television segment for my very own useless product. I shall inform viewers/consumers of the many amazing “uses” my product provides, from cleaning household objects and appliances, to removing facial blemishes and abnormalities and also fixing broken crockery; none of which actually work in any way possible. For this commercial segment I will require the use of adobe premiere, as to edit together video files, effects, images and sound bites throughout the entirety of this short length video production. On top of that I will need a video camera or phone to actually record the segment, one of which I will need to book out from college and the other I can just reach out from my pocket, however if my phone possesses a good enough video quality I shan't need to hassle to attain an expensive video camera. Next I will need an audio recorder, in case any overdubbing is required to improve on the overall audio clarity of the production and or too boost the hilarity of the production, as modern day advertisements have dialogue that doesn’t always sync up with the facial movements of the speaker, therefore all I need to do is over exaggerate that element to a further degree of wackiness. Furthermore, I will need the help of at least two other extras, with their main responsibility being to test the hazardous product, whilst I as the main spokesperson stand from afar wearing special safety equipment (whilst filming the segment itself).
  • 6. Mood Board: Over the top/useless products
  • 7. Mood Board Analysis Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood The images I have gathered are a collection of strange, farcical and entertaining products, none of which are intentionally amusing, but made for practical use; whether that be: cooling your feet, brushing your cat or fixing your head of hair. However, a viewer like myself can’t help but be overwhelmed with hysterics when seeing these absurd products presented to us, which most everyone wouldn’t dare to buy for practical use. Apart from the product itself, the delivery of certain advertisements are usually the most hilarious part, for example; the constant repetition of the product in question, the unnatural human movement and the incessant indicating towards the product in frame, is why to this day so many of these products are still remembered. Furthermore these advertisements always seem to drag on forever, as they continuously bombard you with facts and information about the product, both useful and useless just hoping that one poor, unlucky individual gives in and finally gives up whatever amount of money is left in their bank account, as they stare blankly at the television screen.
  • 8. How will your mood board influence your final product? The vibrant aesthetic of most every product, influences me to do the same with my product, as the most important aspect when intriguing potential buyers is immediately grabbing their attention through the screen; whether or not you sell the product hinges greatly on the initial impression you make. Furthermore nearly every product I have collected is strange in a very obvious way, which is what makes them so infamous in the first place and therefore I'd like to do the same with my product by creating something practically useless in every conceivable circumstance; something the world doesn’t want, nor does it need, much like the pet rock.
  • 9. Informal Proposal He e Current Idea Concept The concept for my product will be a chemical spray, advertised to solve most issues involving cleanliness and restoration. However, the comedic twist is, the spray won't work in any circumstance put before it. In fact the spray will likely do more bad than good in most situations, causing harm to the user if in close proximity of the toxic chemical, unless you happen to be wearing special equipment to protect your bare skin. Type of products you would make The type of product I will make for my FMP will be an advertisement for a cleaning spray called “Spotless spray”, for the use of cleaning objects and appliances, as well as removing facial blemishes and abnormalities. I will be advertising my product through a video advertisement, radio advertisement and also on a poster. What you will need to make them For my work I shall only need a couple of extras for both filming and recording audio, as well as the audio recorder itself, a video camera and a couple of outfits, including a cheap suit which most shopping channel presenters tend to wear, plus a hazmat suit for the “safety” of my character whilst cleaning with toxic chemicals. Audience My target audience based on the psychographic, is for those who have their “needs driven”. This group act upon impulse and instinct, which most people tuning into the shopping channel run on, as whatever they may be purchasing could run out of stock at any moment. Furthermore this group doesn’t plan ahead for what they may be buying, they pay more attention to the benefits of a product rather than paying attention to a single bad one which is perfect for my product, as it’s just completely toxic. Furthermore my target audience is primarily male orientated, ranging between the ages of 40-60 as I believe this group will find my work the most humorous and understand the irony involved.
  • 10. Discounted ideas Reasons for not choosing this project • Football orientated magazine • I had already created a football based magazine in a previous project and I thought doing the exact same thing again, all be it in a slightly different way would just be lazy. On top of that I just wasn’t interested in creating a magazine, it doesn't fuel me with a plethora of creative ideas. Furthermore, many of the images implemented in the magazine would likely be secondary research, meaning they would be gathered from the internet, rather than created/shot by myself. I would find this to be quite a fraudulent method in creating my FMP, as most everything wouldn’t have any originality whatsoever and therefore the title of a personal project, wouldn’t serve the same meaning with nothing being my own. However, if I were to take original pictures of my own, the hassle would be of immense volumes as it would take far too long to try and get into a football match for quite a large sum of money (taking into account the journey and stadium costs), to then end up with very low quality images from a far vantage point in the stands; simply put, the stress wouldn’t be worth it. Aside from that, I could easily take pictures of myself and others playing football, but I wanted to centralize my magazine around professional footballers, as that’s what intrigues readers, not some uncoordinated teenager who can barely kick a football (that being myself). • Gaming orientated magazine • Similar to the football magazine, the gaming based magazine didn’t entice me enough to elaborate on the idea further and when the advertisement idea came to fruition, it took over from everything else and the idea of creating a magazine was thrown to the back of my mind and discounted. On top of that, if I were to create a gaming magazine I would likely have to cover many gaming genres, as a means to try and appeal to a wider audience. This fact put me off the idea even more so, as I was only interested in doing something I was fully passionate about, therefore I would have lost interest reviewing particular games that didn’t completely encapsulate my train of thought and bring me into their world. Furthermore, the time and immense effort it would have taken to review several blockbuster games from start to finish, whilst taking in minor and major elements of the game to elaborate on in a later article, to try and achieve a completely honest review from my point of view, would have taken an inordinate amount of time and consideration that of which I don’t think I’m completely capable of. Added to that, I’m not an expert in that field, I don’t really know what makes a game good or bad, if I like something I just like it and its not possible for me to transition these emotions onto a piece of paper. Everyone has their own personal opinion to why they like or dislike something, even if that opinion happens to be quite lacking of any substance and therefore without any real context to back up why I enjoy something other than saying “I just like it”, it’s hard to gain any sort of response from the reader, as well as difficult to create an adequate amount of work I and the examiner would be pleased with.
