Science 7 - LAND and SEA BREEZE and its Characteristics
Designing the covers
1.
2. “Creating the game cover, like the magazine
came in two stages. Making the official game
company foreground. Then making the time
assassin background. The idea was to make
something that wouldn’t necessarily stand out.
Something that is realistic, and if you put it on
a shelf with other games, it would fit perfectly. I
think I have achieved this.”
3. The Cover for my video game has too versions
the first is the Xbox one case. Which has the logo
and game details in grey.
1. I had started with a blank Xbox one template
given to me by a vector designer. It contains the
Xbox logo at the top on the spine, and unlike the
PlayStation four its simple the inversion of the
background colour behind it.
2. First stage of designing was adding the age rating
and the game companies responsible for making
my game. My game is quite similar to that of
Batman Arkham Knight so I decided to share
some of the logos with that game, as well as but
my won company, Dynamic Industries.
3. Next I added four pictures, all Xbox one game
covers will have a wide main photo above three
screen shots of gameplay footage. It is a house
style for their games. So to make it realistic I
shared the same design. I took a screen shot of
my game street for the largest picture. Then a
screenshot of my portal, and finally to science
fiction concept art boxes side by side.
4. The next step was adding some tex.t id already
decided what id put on video game cover, so I
simply added them in with a font that contrasted
the background. Like the other Xbox games,
above the three screenshots there is text
exampling what you can do, with three subtitles
that interest the reader, like shoot, kill, drive. I've
also added, the text map of time included so it
seems there's a collectable inside the case.
5. Before I added the final front cover I added the
science fiction font down the spine of the game,
then added all the logos and game awards, this
defiantly helps to make the game seem real.
6. The final stage was adding the 80’s poster design
I decided to use as the main cover. This was
placed behind everything else and combined with
everything else makes it seem like a real Xbox
game.

5. The other version of my game cover is for the
PlayStation four. Which has the game details in a
pop up box at the back, while the log is in clear blue
on the top right.
1. The process of making the PlayStation cover was
quite similar to the Xbox cover. To started with a
vector template of PlayStation game cover that I
would add too. Contrasting the Xbox cover there's a
lot more going on for this cover, the PlayStation bar on
the top is a nice gradient of blue.
2. The first stage was looking at other PlayStation
covers, the back cover in most of there games have a
messy screenshot, something that looks scruffy, urban
but very good., for mine I took a screen shot of my
portal in my game and took an outline on it using
Photoshop. I blurred the middle so it looked like the
black and white portal was imitating something.
3. I next added text in the middle of the portal, which was
easy to read thanks to the blurred background inside
the portal. The main title was made using an urban
burning font, put together makes the back cover look
realistic, like any other PlayStation house style for a
back cover.
4. I next added the logo of my game down the spine, this
is like the Xbox font so there are still some noticeable
similarities between versions. I also added all the
game awards and logos which are the same as the
Xbox, to keep consistency. The only difference is the
addition of broken sword games, which could be the
PlayStation company responsible for making the
PlayStation version of my game.
5. Finally I added the same 80’s poster design to the
front of the cover behind everything else. The 80’s
poster was made using several layers of the same
image changing the adjustment layers so it has that
80’s science fiction look, which is what I wanted to go
for. Finally to make it consistent with the Xbox cover, I
used the same front cover as the Xbox one, to keep it
looking like just a simple PS4 version of the same
game. I think I have succeeded.
