3. PARTURITION
Parturition it is the process of the expulsion of
the fetus (and its membranes) from the uterus
through the maternal passages by natural
forces.
4. The Three Stages Of Parturition
1) Preparation 3) Expulsion of Fetus membrane
2) Expulsion of Fetus
6. Stage 2 (EXPULSION OF FETUS)
• It requires strong myometrial and
abdominal muscle contractions.
• Another important hormone
involved in successful parturition
is relaxin.
• produced by either the corpus
luteum or the placenta
7. • Relaxin causes a softening of
the connective tissue in the
cervix and promotes elasticity
of the pelvic ligaments.
• As estradiol increases, the
cervix and vagina begin to
produce mucus.
Stage 2 (EXPULSION OF FETUS)
8. Stage 3 (CEXPULSION OF F. MEMBRANE)
• It requires myometrial
contractions.
• These contractions are
responsible for expelling the
placenta.
13. Parturition
Changes in Pelvis
Relaxation of sacrosciatic ligaments (excessive 24-48 hrs before
parturition
Enlargement of udder
In heifers starts at 4th month of gestation
In older cows/buffaloes 3-4 weeks before parturition
Yellowish secretion; the colostrum
