2. AUDIENCE RESEARCH
Who will my target audience be?
From my research I have found that my target audience will be a split of boys and girls, aged between
16 and 25, their interests will include films, music, socialising and reading. My target audience will be of
ABC1 social class.
What do my audience expect to see in my trailer?
I have found that my audience want me to use a range of shot types, tension, fast paced sections,
scenes that make them jump and a glimpse at the storyline of the film.
In terms of camerawork they expect to see lots of camera movement such as tracking and tilting, as
well as a range of shot types including close ups, mid shots, wide shots and high/low angle shots.
As for sound, my audience expect to hear tension building non diegetic music, panicked voices in
conversations, screaming and bangs and crashes.
My audience expect to see a mixture of slow and fast paced editing so that the trailer is not only tense,
but also has some faster paced action. Also they expect to see shot reverse shots and a large amount
of cross cutting to different shots, possibly with a fade to black effect used on some cuts.
Mise-en-scene that my target audience will expect includes props such as weapons, scary costumes,
blood, low key lighting with a deserted or haunted location.
3. HOW WILL I FIND MY RESEARCH HELP ME?
I will use my research to understand my target audience and make a much more appealing and
effective movie trailer. By using my results from my audience research I will be able to make a
much better trailer.
I can also use my research to improve my pitch as I can show a clear understanding of who my
target audience are and what they want to see in my trailer, which will look very professional and
effective in my pitch.
