LOCATIONS
The locations to be used in the media product shall be filmed within the local vicinity of the
town (March). Locations such as the town centre shall be key for filming due to it being highly
conventional for zombie horror (and is used in films such as “28 days later” and “World War Z”),
this is because it shows the isolation of the people in a post apocalyptic world, making the
overall scenes much more convincing. However this location can only be used early in the
morning or in the evening when the area is quiet and not in use.
Another location is around the train station (when not in use). This is a location conventionally
used in zombie horror as a way of showing communication between people – follow the tracks
to reach safety etc. – who are distantly isolated. This location was heavily used in AMC’s, “The
Walking Dead”.
A final location to be used in the production is the Avenue Park. Within the park is a cut through
that hides an abandoned building that is a highly conventional setting for horror. The dank,
burnt out setting shall momentarily appear in the product as a place of shelter. This location
also makes good use of natural lighting and ambient sound, making a more natural and
realistic setting.
These locations are all highly conventional of this particular sub-genre and it is because of this
that the product should show a compelling story
PROPS
The props that shall be used in the product will be those that conform to the sub-genre and the
audience would expect to appear. The props chosen shall be cricket/baseball bats and plastic
munitions such as assault rifles. These weapons are iconic conventions of the sub-genre. Other
props to be used shall be back packs as these will have to be worn by those who play the role of
“survivor”. These props frequently appear in the sub-genre, in films such as, “28 Days Later”,
“Dawn Of The Dead” and “World War Z”.
COSTUME
The type of costume worn in the media product shall be conventional of zombie horror. In order
to keep to conventions the survivors shall have to wear clothing that is well worn and maybe
somewhat tattered (the clothes will also need to be fairly modern), to further increase the
impression that they have been in the same clothes for a long period of time, blood splashes
could also be on the clothes.
In terms of costume for zombies, they shall wear clothes that are tattered and old as well as very
bloody (especially around the neck area). This will be highly conventional of the genre.
