behavior when giving information, instruction, making explanations,
and narrating events in factual and personal recounts.
At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
• identify the types of verbal and nonverbal communication;
• differentiate verbal from nonverbal communication; and
• orally narrate events in factual and personal recounts using
appropriate verbal and non-verbal cues.
4. MOTIVATION
Directions: Match Column A with Column B to connect the meaning or feeling being
expressed in the following statements below.

17. Communication is the exchange of information/messages
between two or more persons.
When we speak, there are some factors that we need to
consider like the appropriate:
• oral language (words you should use, pronunciation, etc.);
• stance (the way you stand/body language when you speak);
• and behavior (the manner of how you deliver your message).
18. Verbal Communication is a type of communication that you use in
expressing your feelings or ideas through the use of words. Here, you need to
observe proper pronunciation and grammar when you speak as much as you must
also observe your grammar and correct spelling when you write.
TYPES OF VERBAL COMMUNICATION
1.Oral Communication
-use of spoken language in giving and receiving information.
2.Written Communication
- communication using printed texts.
-use of words without producing sounds.
19. Nonverbal Communication is the process of
delivering a message using actions without words.
It’s normal that when we feel tired, we tend to
breath deeply. That alone can explain that we are
tired without saying it. The actions and facial
expressions we are using are called “gestures” or
“body language”.
20. TYPES OF NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION
• Kinesics - body language such as facial expressions,
gestures, body postures, movement.
• Proxemics - personal space or distance that individuals
maintain while communicating.
• Haptics - use of touch to communicate feelings.
• Oculesics - movement of eyes.
• Vocalics/Paralanguage - tone of voice, pitch, loudness.
21. Verbal Communication Examples
Oral
• The speaker is giving a lecture on the importance of
wearing face mask.
• listening to radio/television programs.
• When your teacher discusses the lesson.
• When you recite or ask question during discussion.
22. Nonverbal Communication
Kinesics
• Thumbs up from someone could mean that you are doing good.
• The taste of the food you eat is visible from the expression of your face.
• When some is shivering which shows the person is feeling cold.
Proxemics:
• Leave the table when someone insults you.
• Approach someone to ask for the direction of a place.
• Waving to someone maybe a friend or a classmate after flag retreat.
23. Nonverbal Communication
Haptics
• Hugging a friend is a way of showing comfort.
• whipping a stubborn child.
• Kissing on the cheeks of your mother or any member of the family.
• Holding hands together is also a way of showing your friendship or love to
someone.
Oculesics
• Your eyes become wider when you are surprised.
• Looking at the ceiling while speaking could mean that you are nervous.
• rolling eyes when you are mad or angry with someone else.

Vocalics/Paralanguage
• My mother talks fast when she is in a hurry.
• My sister is shouting so loud because someone took her phone.
• You scream because you are scared by someone while walking
alone in a dark street.
• Laughing too loud may tell you that something is funny.

Draw a situation where it shows a verbal and
non-verbal communication. Afterwhich give a
caption in each picture.

Select a scene of your favorite movie and
present it to the class. At least 3-5 minutes
presentation.

Select a scene that could be timely observe
today. Then make a tableaux of it.
