- Researching a variety of survival-related products helped generate ideas but could have been more in-depth
- Planning was detailed but the script needed revising
- Time management was initially good but fell behind due to technical issues
- Audio quality could be improved with additional sound effects
- The magazine turned out well due to careful editing and use of fonts/colors
- Gameplay achieved the survival goal but more content could be added
- Overall time management and including more detail were weaknesses

They have tried to make it as

percentage goes down.

16. Research Summary
• From my research I have discovered that some survival
games/movies/magazines are more realistic than others. I have also
discovered that most survival related products colour pallets tend to be
all green and red shades.
• I found the survival games especially helpful as they have given me
ideas as to how my game will work. In terms of colours, the magazines
and movies I researched helped as it gives me an idea as to what fonts
and what colours to use to make it stand out.
19. Style Sheet
These colours will be used
mainly for the colouring of the
island. The yellow tones will be
for the sand and the green will
be for the palm trees and things
like that
The brown/red tones will most
likely be used for any titles and
maybe some survival items
placed on the island
The blue shades will be used
for the see surrounding the
island

28. Synopsis
Three close friends Noah, Oli And Benji decide to go away travellingin
their gap yearand start in Cuba. On arrivalthey decide to hire a boat
so they can go explore the surrounding islands. They decide to go to
this one islandthey can see in the distanceto see if there is anything
interesting. When travellingover to the small island they noticed the
waves in the sea start to get harsher. However, Noah tells the other 2
to not worry and to carry on going. After battlingthe waves, they
finallyarrive at the small islandand get out of their boat. They start
exploring the island when they notice a change in the weather. Within
minutes the weather conditionswere horrendousand the waves
became extremely harsh, not fit for any boat to set sail. The Three
boys went and took shelter under a palm tree and tried to shield from
the storm. After an hour or so the harsh weather died down and the
boys knew straight away that they needed to sail back to mainland.
However, when they got off the boat they did not secure it to anything
and it had been taken away with the waves, so how were they going
to get back? Their initialinstinct was to get their phone and call for
help but there was obviouslyno reception. Thisis when the boys
realise they needed to start lookingfor supplies and food if they
wanted any chances of survive. Each boy scavenged around the island,
but even with all three of them looking there was not enough food to
even feed one of them, and this is when it became competitive. Each
boy wantedto survive so they became selfish and kept anythingthey
found to themselves. It was now a case of survival of the fittest, but
33. Research
One strength of my research was the variation of different materials. This helped
me analyse and gave me ideas as to what I was going to do. I feel like looking at
different peoples products gave me an idea as to what colours, fonts and genre I
was going to use. It also gave me a clear image of what not to do as some fonts and
colours get hidden in some products and are not clear or easy on the eye. Another
strength I felt was the experiments I did at the beginning. Doing this enabled me to
picture how my magazine cover, film poster and game would look.
Even though I covered most variations of products I feel like I should’ve gone into
more detail and researched multiple of the same products, for example I should
have analysed more magazines, games, movie posters… To improve I would explore
more products which could’ve made my project stand out more. I also feel like I
could have done more experiments to help me improve my editing.
34. Planning
One strength of my planning was the amount of detail I went into when drawing
out my game. Ive made sure it is clear where everything would go. This helped a lot
when it came to actually drawing my game as I didn’t have to worry about if things
would fit, where they would go or if it would look right. Another part of planning I
felt went well is my style sheets. Even though they didn’t take long to make, it
helped me massively when creating my game/ poster as I knew which colours to
stick to and what theme we were going for.
One weakness I found was the script I had written. When writing the script I
didn’t consider where my cut scene was going to go, which caused a slight problem.
I then had to re-write the script so I could put the cutscene at the end of my game
and it would still make sense.
35. Time Management
• At the begging of the project I felt like I stayed on top of the work very well.
However, as I got to the middle of the project I feel like I slowly started to fall
behind as I was struggling a lot more seen as though were not ay college. By the
end of the project I feel like I was so far behind as I had some technical difficulties
ending up with all my animation work I had done glitching and ruining my work,
meaning I had to start again. I think if I was given additional time I would have
been able to add more detail to my research and planning which would have
most likely boosted my grade.
36. Technical Qualities
MineCraft SurvivalMode
ScavangerSurvivor
(My Game)
One of the most similarproducts to my game is
minecraft survivalmode. With both of these
games you have to collect food/supplies to stay
alive. Each time you do get food your life
expectancy goes up and the way you know this is
by looking at the hearts in the corner of each
game.
When designing the game I tried to add as much
detailas possible to make it more aesthetically
pleasing and more enjoyableto play. I added extra
detailto the treasure chest so when it was lifted
there was treasure to collect. Another bit of detail
I added to make it more realistic is the shark fin in
the sea. Throughout the animationthe shark
moves across the sea so it looks like its swimming
around.
37. Aural Qualities
In terms of sound I had constant music in the background which volume changed throughout when
different sound effects were added.I created the music using beepbox and then exported it. In my menu
screen I have used boat sound affects as it moves across the sea which I got of YouTube. To make
the game seem even more realistict I made sure every time my character took a step it would make a
noise. I created the footstep sounds by putting my phone next to my feet and walking on a sandy/muddy
surface.
To imporve the audio of my game I would add extra sound effects in which I forgot to do. Such as, wave
noises, treasure chest lid opening and noises to show that an achievement has been unlocked. The way I
would create the wave noises is by using a tray full of water and splashing it about which would sound
somewhat realistic. To make the treasure chest effects I would record the sound of an opening door
hinge.
I feel the best part of my audio was the timing in which the character walked across the island. Another
strength was the music I had playing throughout the whole animation which I created on beepbox. I feel
it matches the game really well, and sounds similar to a video games music.
38. Audience Appeal
I feel l have appealed to my target audience in the sense that it has achieved the
survival aspect that I wanted. I feel most 13 yr olds enjoy survival as it similar to
minecraft which is mainly played by that age group. Having the heart life expectancy
the corner makes the game more thrilling and tense to play as if you are not quick
enough you maydie, which I think adds more excitement to them game.
I would saymy game could be played by anyone, however is mainly targeted for a
younger audience as it is simple and the story line has a very easy concept and is easy
to understand.
39. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final
package.
I feel like the main strength of this whole project was the magazine I
created. I feel it looks exactly how I want it to look and the individual
pieces of text on it stand out because of the different fonts and the
coloursI used. I was reallyhappy in how I edited the the backgroundas
there were tree stumps, dead plantsand other things I didn’t
necessarily want in the bacground as it made it look unproffesional.I
also drew grass and playedwith the coloursto make the grass stand out
and look even more green. Another thing I did to help it look more
proffesional is editing the sky by adding different shades of blue and
then blurring it to look smooth and more astheticallypleasing.
I feel one of the main weaknesses of mine is time management. I feel like I struggle with a lot of the work which
means I slow down a lot and don’t get half as much work done as I should.
Another one off my weaknesses is not going intoenough detailon certain things. This is a mix between not been able
to think of things to write and not having enough time. I feel like if I didn’t struggle as much and worked faster I
would go into a lot more depth. For example, I feel I could have written more detailin my initialideas as I havent
explainedit in as much depth as I had wanted.
