Contextual Research

What I want to make for my FMP
My plan for this project is to create a press release marketing package for a fictional fashion brand..
I intend to create things such as promo video and a shorter promo video for a social media website,
catalogue, photo gallery and I will create a social media page advertise my work . I would like to
base my fashion brand around urban/street wear and create a very urban feel to it.
Why I have chosen this for my FMP
I have chosen to make a marketing package as it gives me the ability to create different types
of products to show off my different skills. I found throughout the course that some of my
strongest pieces of work have been print based work. For example, I made a fashion magazine
based on different time periods which I took all my own photos for and edited the pages to fit that
certain time period.
Research Intentions
My main area of research in the contextual research is different fashion photographers/
videographers and fashion content creators. Different fashion photographers have different
styles of taking photos which I will talk about and use inspiration from when creating
my projects.
Strengths and weakness
Weakness's:
Over the past year and a half, I found my weaker skill was video. In order to improve I chose to do
video for my past two projects, both being documentary's. Its taught me how to be harsh with
editing to only leave footage in that needs to be there and has also taught me how detrimental it is
to stick to a time schedule.
By far my biggest weakness has been time management. Once I get stuck on a certain piece of work
instead of moving and coming back to it later I just panic and eventually leave it till last minute. This
has massively effected previous projects as it then delays the whole production process resulting in
work that could have been completed to a lot higher standard.
Strengths:
One of my main strengths I have found throughout the past two years is photography. I have started
to understand what lighting and angles work best to show off the model and enhance the shot. In
terms of editing photos I have also improved, knowing what colours to boost to make them pop,
how to effectively use shadowing, sharpen the photos...
One influence for my work is Yvan
Rodic. Yvan Rodic (also known
as Face Hunter) isn't very well
known but is a Swiss streetwear
fashion photographer and a blogger.
He travels the world photographing
people at cultural and fashion
events.
When creating my project I will
definitely take inspiration when it
comes taking photos. All his photo
has such an urban feel to them
which really enhances the outfits as
it is all streetwear. I will also take
inspiration from the models poses as
they make the photos look
professional.

Tommy Ton- Fashion Photographer
Tommy Ton is a Canadian
photographer known for
his fashion blog Jak & Jil. Ton has
also worked with Gucci on their
summer/spring fashion range
2016.
Most of his work is streetwear
photography. I would say Ton will
be my biggest influence when
taking photos. The locations he
uses, angles, lighting and model
positioning is exactly how I want
my photos to look to create the
urban streetwear aesthetic I am
going for.
