My Best Vacation Ever Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "My Best Vacation Ever" can be both a delightful and
challenging task. On one hand, recalling the memories of a cherished vacation brings forth a
flood of positive emotions, allowing for a personal and engaging narrative. On the other hand,
the challenge lies in organizing these experiences into a coherent and compelling essay that
captivates the reader.
The difficulty often begins with selecting the most memorable aspects of the vacation. There
may be an abundance of moments, sights, and feelings that stand out, making it a daunting task
to narrow down the focus. Balancing between providing sufficient detail and avoiding
unnecessary tangents is another hurdle. The writer must strive to create a vivid and immersive
picture without overwhelming the reader with excessive information.
Furthermore, the structure of the essay plays a crucial role. Beginning with a captivating
introduction that sets the tone, followed by a well-organized body that smoothly transitions
between different aspects of the vacation, and concluding with a memorable ending, all demand
careful consideration. Maintaining a cohesive flow throughout the essay is essential to keep the
reader engaged and interested.
Expressing emotions and experiences through words can also prove challenging. Finding the
right language to convey the essence of the vacation requires a thoughtful selection of descriptive
and evocative words. Striking a balance between providing vivid imagery and avoiding clichГ©s
is key to creating a unique and memorable essay.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on "My Best Vacation Ever" may present challenges in
terms of selecting the most significant moments, organizing them effectively, and expressing
them eloquently, the process is ultimately rewarding. The opportunity to relive and share a
cherished experience is a journey in itself, making the effort worthwhile.

Tom Stoppard Analysis
Tom Stoppard and How Both Plays Imply a Similar Message
Philosophical Playwright Tom Stoppard was born TomГЎs StraГјssler on July 3rd,
1937 in ZlГn, Czechoslovakia. He grew up in Singapore as well as in India during
World War II. Stoppard s Biological father was killed in Singapore, so instead of
moving to England in the year of 1946 with his mother and Father, his stepdad had
filled the hole that was left by his father. Tom Stoppard s education took place with
schools in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire. This was where he became a journalist
working for the Western Daily Press in 1954 through to 1980 as well as the Bristol
Evening World in 1958 through to 1960. In 1962 Stoppard became a theatre critic
for Scene magazine in London and also began writing plays for Television and
Radio shows, including The Dissolution of Dominic Boot in 1964, A Walk on the
Water , televised in 1963, and The Stand Ins , which was later revised as The Real
Inspector Hound in 1968. The play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead , which
was published in 1967, premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1966. This
play had caught the attention of Kenneth Tynan, which brought recognition to the
National Theatre. Not only was it produced at the National Theatre but it was also
produced at the National in 1967 and on Broadway in 1967, winning a Tony Award
for Best Play in America in 1968. In 1972, his play Jumpers , was staged at the

The Gogol Grotesque Characters
Grotesque Characters When talking about the grotesque uncertainty and confusion is
often common because when someone or something is grotesque it is out of the
norm we don t usually see or hear about it. In Gogol s The Nose the grotesque is
present throughout the whole story and especially with the two main characters Ivan
Yakovlevich and Collegiate Assessor Kovalyov. A reader of this story will notice the
similarities and the differences that these two characters share. This response to The
Nosewill compare and contrast the two main characters and show how they are
grotesque. The title of this story alone should tell the reader that this is most likely
about a nose or something pertaining to that particular body part which is different.
The title alone can make the reader ask questions before they even start to read the
story. As one may read and find out that the story is about a nose and how Collegiate
Assessor Kovalyov (also referred to as major) loses his nose. As Ivan Yakovlevich is
sitting down to eat a roll he feels something in the roll. He pokes two fingers in and
pulled out a nose! (Gogol 113). Ivan freaks out as any normal person would do and
decides to get rid of the evidence and drops it off a bridge. The major on the other
hand wakes up one morning to find he has lost his nose and has no idea where it is.
He later finds his nose acting as a person who has a rank that is three higher than
his. The major even tries to talk his own nose and holds a

the faster she got home, the less stress she will feel as she can tell her parents about

Essay on Attacks on the US Embassies in Kenya and
Tanzania
On August 7, 1998, two U.S. embassies were attacked almost simultaneously. One
was in Nairobi, Kenya and the other in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The attack in
Kenya involved both a truck bomb and at least two suicide bombers. The truck was
at the back entrance of the embassy when the bomb went off, and the damage was
critical. This attack had more casualties than the bombing in Tanzania because the
truck that contained the bomb was able to get into the inner embassy compound.
Also, the Nairobi embassy was close to the center of the city which was more
populated and led to more deaths. The U.S. embassy was not the only building

ambassador that was injured in the bombing. She had been meeting outside with
Joseph Kamotho, Kenya s trade minister. Their first thought from hearing the
smaller blast was that it must be the noise from construction. Another victim, Linda
Howard, witnessed the explosion around 10:40 A.M. She was on the fourth floor
of the United States Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya and was in a meeting. Soon after
she heard the small explosion, she suddenly realized that all of the windows were
currently being blasted, the roof was caving in, and smoke seemed to appear from
every direction. Before she had analyzed what was going on, she was being yelled
at by Embassy guards to get down on the floor. After fifteen minutes of crawling
around without being able to see, they had reached the ground floor. What Howard
saw next terrified her. She saw lifeless bodies, fires everywhere, and the screams of
terrified people. Bill Bar who is director of the U.S. Information Service in Kenya,
was also at the same meeting as Linda Howard. He also recalls hearing a thump and
thought it was possibly the sound of a grenade being thrown at the embassy. Some
also recall hearing gunfire outside of the embassy before the big explosion. Al Qaeda
is the international terrorist group responsible for these two attacks. The mastermind
behind the attacks was named Fazul Abdullah Mohammed. He was recruited by
Osama Bin Laden who was a Saudi millionaire. Osama was the leader that funded

Global Democracy
1 December 2014
The Democratization of South Korea Long before the hustle and bustle of the big
city, ages afore the creation of one of the world s largest standing militaries, the
Republic of South Korea was one of the farthest governments from a democracy.
Following the Japanese occupation of World War Two, the South Korean
government went through many different forms of authority. According to Jung
Hae Gu, professor of Social Sciences at the University of Sung Kong Hoe in Korea,
and Kim Ho Ki, professor of Sociology at Yonsie University in Korea, the Republic
of Korea has so far went through a total of 6 different regime changes since the
liberation from Japanese occupation (Hae Gu, Ho Ki). The shifts in government
occurred under various regimes, Rhee Syng Man, Park Chung Hee, Chun Doo
Hwan, and the June Uprising of 1987 (Hae Gu, Ho Ki). But the lead up to the
democratization of South Korea has a more fluid past though, one of hardship and
struggle, fluctuation between authoritarian regimes and military run governments.
The pressures that caused the governments to change play a very vital role though
too, they are the forces that shape the government and the ruling nature. The current
ruling democracy was forged by the previous governments and deserves to be
examined and discussed because they are obliviously the ones in charge right now.
And lastly, the current military state of South Korea is to be reviewed. The
Figurative Language In Daisy Miller
Authors often design highly complex characters that toy with readers emotions and
force them to tirelessly ruminate on their personas, traits, and intrinsic qualities.
These types of characters artfully enhance works of literature by bringing a variety of
underlying dimensions to their respected pieces. Each quality that defines them
subtly contributes to themes in a piece and touches readers in different ways. To fully
appreciate a characterof this depth, they must be broken down and analyzed from
several perspectives. A character from American literature that fits this profound
archetype is Henry James s character Winterbourne from the short storyDaisy Miller:
A Study. In this piece, Winterbourne is illustrated as an American young adult

While ineffectiveness is not an example of good virtue, it functions in the same
way as many of Winterbourne s other traits, such as his submissiveness, by
shielding his morality from his actions. To clarify, he is portrayed as an
intrinsically good person, but his ineffectiveness stops him from explicitly
displaying it. James alludes to this by referencing the superb portrait of Innocent X
(p. 359). This portrayal of the Innocent X was Diego Velasquez s realist
interpretation of a Catholic Pope. Innocent X is famously regarded as a man who
lead a very controversial term as pope and was subject to manipulation from some
of the women in his life. More importantly, he is described as a relatively
ineffective person, meaning internal conflicts often obstructed his decision making
and impeded him from acting on his beliefs. This is much the same for
Winterbourne who, on the other hand, has the pleasure of contemplating a picture
of a different kind Daisy, that pretty American girl (p. 359). His perpetual
deliberation over Daisy aligns him well with the Innocent X, making James s
allusion a critical piece to Winterbourne s description as a good natured person who
repeatedly fails to show it via his actions. Winterbourne spends such a large part of
the story analyzing Daisy (hence the name, Daisy Miller: A Study) that he never ends

Buddhism, The Noble Eightfold Path And The Four Noble
Truths
Buddhism was an incredibly intriguing religion to me due to the emphasis placed on
the reality that surrounds us, it s a rational religion based on peace, self
understanding and the ultimate goal of nirvana. Buddhist followers live their life
with three main goals; morality, meditation and enlightenment. Ultimately the core
teachings of Buddhismare The Noble Eightfold Pathand The Four Noble Truths. It is
their lives journey to understand, live kindly and find their inner peace. In a world so
full of hate, misunderstanding, war, segregation and close mindedness; it is
unimaginable to not find such a peaceful and understanding religion not attractive in
one way or another. However with that, how is it possible that in this same world we
find ourselves, those Buddhist followers are able to find such inner peace and
understanding when the world around them conducts themselves with such insanity?
We don t know details about the life of Siddhartha Buddha as nothing was written
down by him or his disciples until hundreds of years after his death. However, the
legends that were passed down paint a very humble and intriguing picture of the
man known as Buddha. The story states that Buddha was born into a very lavish
lifestyle; he was given anything and everything he could ever want and kept very
sheltered in order to protect him from the realities of the world around him.
Eventually becoming curious of the surrounding world he escaped the royal walls

Battle Of Stalingrad Turning Point
The Battle of Stalingrad was the successful Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad
(present day Volgograd) in the U.S.S.R during World War II. The battle for
Stalingrad was fought between the Soviet Union and the Axis of Germany, Romania,
Italy, Hungary, and Croatia from August 23, 1942 to February 2, 1943. The major
parts of the battle occurred in Eastern Europe in present day Ukraine and into the
Soviet Unionup to the Volga River which splits the city of Stalingrad. The battle of
Stalingradonly occurred because of Adolf Hitler s hatred for Soviet President
Joseph Stalin and the city being named after him. The city was not of importance,
as the German Sixth Army s mission was to seize the oil fields in the Caucuses to
the south of Stalingrad. Many historians consider the battle to be the single biggest
turning point of World War II as well as the deadliest battle in the history of warfare.

the remainder of the war. It became known as the single biggest defeat of the

civilian death toll from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There are
many lessons to be learned from this battle. Trusting your military commanders to

Thermal Fracking Research Paper
The path of gasoline through the materials economy must be changed, because if it
is not, than the environment would greatly suffer. Gasoline is created by the
process of distillation, by separating the volatile, which is the more valuable parts
of crude petroleum. This was changed and was later processed, to raise the yield of
gasoline from crude oil, and to split large molecules into smaller ones by the
processes called cracking. Thermal cracking was the act of employing heat and
high pressures. This was introduced in 1913. However, in 1927 this process was
replaced with catalytic cracking, which was the addition of catalysts that facilitate
chemical reactions. This produced more gasoline in the end. The gasoline that is
used in cars, buses and trucks boil at between 30В° and 200В° C (85В° and 390В°

Comparing The Iliad and The Bible Essay
Comparing The Iliad and The Bible
Throughout recorded history, man has sought explanations for the various
phenomena that occur in every facet of nature, and when no obvious answer is
forthcoming, still a theory is often proposed. These explanatory theories, often taking
the form of stories or chronicles, are usually linked to some sort of mysticism or
divine intervention. By ascribing that which he does not understand to the gods will
at work, man avoids facing up to his own lack of knowledge in a given area, and also
draws comfort from assuming that the universe does indeed function under the
guidance of divine beings. Thus the explanatory accounts that man crafts enhance his

In ancient Greek culture the gods were seen as taking a very active role in the
development and course of human history. The entire Olympian pantheon, as well as
many other less important divinities, meddles in human affairs to no end. The
people of the many city states that composed Greece firmly believed that every
aberration from normalcy was due to an act of the gods. Homer, the author of The
Iliad, coined the prevalent religious beliefs of the time in his epic poems, showing
the gods as temperamental and willful, meddlesome and dynamic. Homer s entire
poem is replete with instances of divine intervention in mortal lives, and no single
major occurrence comes to pass unless it is the will of one of the many Olympian
gods. Few major decisions are made without consulting the gods first, and the
handful of instances in which one leader or another takes initiative almost always
fails miserably. Life, according to the Greeks, is almost entirely rooted in their
religion, as there is a god or goddess governing every aspect of the universe, and also
because the gods so actively involve themselves in the everyday lives of mortals.
A classic example of this divine involvement occurs within the first page of The Iliad.
Achilles, the great hero of the Achaean armies, and Agamemnon the commander in
chief of the Argives clash bitterly, and the entire epic centers on this conflict. Homer

From Trajan s Column, completed in 113 AD, to the statue of Christopher Columbus
in Easton, Pennsylvania, monuments and memorials have been a significant element
of celebration and honor throughout history (Source B). Though monuments are
typically meant as a symbol of honor, recent controversy over statues dedicated to
Confederate leaders and generals has sparked the debate over how to choose subjects
to memorialize, and the actual development of these memorials. When considering
what or who to honor, one must also consider the subjects impact on history, ensuring
that it is positive. In creating memorials and monuments, groups and agencies should

Similarities Between Judicial Activism And Strict...
The Supreme Court is made up of many justices that believe in two different
judicial philosophies. These two philosophies are that of judicial activism and strict
constructionism. These philosophies differ quite a bit from one another, but they
both work toward the same main goal. Both philosophies play a part in court cases
when it comes to deciding on a final ruling. Judicial activism is a judicial philosophy
that states that a court has the right to, and should go beyond what is stated in the
Constitution about an issue that is being brought up and look towards broader
suggestions of the impending decision on said issue. Basically, the court strikes
down a law and then makes a statement that [may] change a law or policy in a

In this case the Supreme Court determined that Texas law criminalizing, or
essentially trying to outlaw abortion was unconstitutional. Strict Constructionism,
on the other hand, is a distinct legal philosophy that limits or controls some judicial
interpretation. A judge who uses strict constructionism, may reject the use of
legislative history when constructing law because whatever a particular legislator
may have said while on the floor of congress does not necessarily reflect what was
put into law (Stankiewicz) . Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court is
probably one of the most we ll know users of strict constructionism. In essence, he
believes that the Constitution should only ever be interpreted the way it was
written never any different. Scalia also believes that the Constitution should not be
susceptible to any form of updating by any court. In 2015 the Supreme Court ruled
on a case about same sex marriage, Obergfell v. Hodges. The final ruling (holding)
of the case, stated by SCOTUSBlog, the fourteenth amendment requires a state to
license a marriage between two people of the same sex and also to recognize a
marriage between two people of the same sex when their marriage was lawfully

he will eventually loose his eyesight completely. This story touched a lot of

Chemical Attacks
Throughout history different terrorist groups have used a variety of methods to
attack innocent civilians and infrastructures. Groups such as Aum Shinirikyo, Al
Qaeda, ISIS, and other domestic terrorists have been known to attack innocent
communities by using IEDs, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons.
Attacks, such as the SarinAttack in Tokyo in 1995, is a prime example in which a
terrorist group, Aum Shinirikyo, used a chemical nerve agentto attack citizens in
Japanese subway. These chemical attacks as well as other WMDs pose unique
threats for first responders. It is important to consider these threats as well as the
time, location, number of anticipated causalities, and the type of chemical agent
used when responding to a chemical attack. It is the responsibility of officials on a
local, state, and federal level to facilitate not only the initial response in a chemical
attack but also the recovery and cleanup efforts weeks after.
The initial response to a chemical attack requires first responders, during the
information gathering phase, to consider a variety of factors such as type of attack,
time lapsed, the chemical involved, and the location of the attack. These factors will
determine the type of response that will be dispatched, and depending on the method

The Importance Of Voter Voting In The United States
Despite popular opinion that the United States is the greatest democracy in the
world, we have shockingly low voter turnout compared to international standards
(Desilver). A complicated registration process and strict restrictions on voting
consistently discourage and inhibit Americans from exercising their right to vote.
Despite this, lawmakers continue to push for and often pass unnecessary legislation
limiting the ways in which citizens can register and cast their ballot. Certain
demographics are the most likely to be hindered by this kind of legislation,
including young people, poor people, and people of color. Politicians often use
claims of voter fraud as an excuse to systematically hinder these marginalized groups
from participating in the democratic process, despite being unable to back up those
claims with any kind of concrete evidence. The limiting of votingrights for young and
minority populations is often blatantly politically motivated. Continuing to pile
restrictions and obstacles onto our electoral process is not only unnecessary, it is
contradictory to democratic values. There should be a shift in the focus of voting
legislation towards expanding the ways in which citizens can participate in elections

all people have an equal voice in our government.

Lakota School District Board Of Education Meetings
The meeting started at 7:00 p.m. and lasted about 45 minutes. The bored member
were five fourth females and two males. Lakota School District Board of Education
meetings are held twice a month on the second and the fourth on Monday of each
month.
The bored member of education stared with the pledge of the allegiance. The bored
member of education afforded agenda for the visitors in the corner. There was a
male stood in the front door and welcomed all visitors and had small talk with some
visitor. There was one teacher, ten students, twelve parents and the photographer
beside me. The board member did not provide refreshment for the visitor. Meetings
usually held in Lakota Central Office at 7:00 PM. They post their dates and places
for the Board meetings in their website.
The borders were sitting on individual tables there were ten nameplates in front of
each bored member that shows their names. In addition, they were using Audio
Technica microphones there were enough seats for the visitors.
The room was a middle size and it was almost full of people, because there was a
project for sixth graders and the bored of education invited them to thank them and
encourage them. Their project was about developing a Logo and Tagline for Lakota s
Child Nutrition Department through a Project Based Learning Activity. They were
two teams and the bored gave them opportunity to speak and share their experience
then they hand to them certificate of recognition and took pictures of them
The Eclogues Of Virgil Are Singularly Pastoral
The Eclogues of Virgil are undeniably pastoral. They are flush with idyllic imagery of
countryside scenery, animals and abundant greenery, shepherds tending to their flock
the simplicity of a life most intimately intertwined with the natural world. In English
Pastoral Poetry, Sir William Empson describes pastoralwriting as a method of putting
the complex into the simple (22). Through idealized and vivid lines, Virgilattests to
the greatness of the everyday desserts of life, the song of a woodman pruning the
trees , the cool of the shade , and the vine on the leafy elm (7). Examining further,
however, one can observe political, personal, and religious allegories that lay beyond
the surface of each Eclogue particularly in Eclogue... Show more content on

Meliboeus comes upon Tityrus, another shepherd, who is contrastingly content and
without worry. Tityrus explains to Meliboeus that after travelling to Rome and
meeting a young man, who has widely been presumed to be the Roman emperor
Augustus, he has obtained definitive ownership of his land and need not worry
about it being repurposed into housing for discharged soldiers. Meanwhile, Tityrus,
the shepherd whom many have speculated to be representative of Virgil, basks in
his freedom and love for Augustus, a god [who] gave [him] this peace (3). Prior to
his travels to Rome, Tityrus suffered in a relationship with the greedy Galatea, in
which freedom was a concept unknown to him. His transformation from enslavement
to liberation is found through a fusion of urban (Rome) and rural (Arcadia) instances,
thus confirming the pastoral element of Virgil to be only complete in this Eclogue
when observing similarities and differences between the intricate and the simplistic.
Within this employment of the pastoral mode, of its indulgent language and both its
conventional and unconventional themes, a light is shone on the poet, Virgil himself,
that illuminates the facets of his political and personal thought subtly implemented in
the First Eclogue. While he lived comfortably in his home on the coast of Northern
Italy, his acquaintances were
The Color Purple Rhetorical Analysis
Alice Walker may seem the usual type of author that is ordinary in her writing.
Actually, she is not. She uses a different method to make us feel the suspense of the
story with vivid details. You only live life once so why not take advantage of it? In
The Color Purple, Celie s life is the contrary. You may ask why, but there are people
out there who are afraid to speak up. Alice Walkerseemed to portray this novel very
well making it seem realistic. The tone Walker used in the novel seemed
confessional and private towards the only person she could actually tell her feelings
to, God. The author wrote this novel in first person giving it more touch to it making
it seem as if this actually happened in the past of an African American girl.... Show

It is also oblivious that Alice Walker is emphasizing on the idea that the dominant
culture were the white people and some take advantage of the issue against the
weaker people, African American people. In this story, the author makes a point
suggesting that women should speak up and not be afraid since if they do they
can make a changed in the world. Alice Walker is exactly an example of it showing
it in her writing in the book trying to break a barrier against these two races. For
example, when the Mayor asked Sofia if she wanted to be his wife s maid and
Sofia replied with a hell no, he slapped her for giving her that answer to him and
his wife. Knowing her characteristics in the book, we would know she would hit
the Mayor back, which she did and ended up in prison since then. She would be in
there for a long time, and when she got there, they beat her cracking her skull and
ribs, tear her nose loose on one side and blind her from one eye. The policemen did
this to her because of her actions and her skin color. Throughout the first part of
the book, Walker makes Celie seem like a person who does not really know what she
is worth or who she is. After all it is not her to blame since they treated her like a
slave because she as well was black. All she knows is that she does not enjoy her life
and is not even treated like a normal human being.
Alice Walker was African American and also lived in

Jones favorite play that he did in this was Othello, in which he played Ajax, which
was a brute of a man (Cutruzzula). James had never played any serious characters
up until this point, he usually played the henchman that never seemed to have a
brain (Cutruzzula). This role was one of his most memorable ones for him and
many others who have knowledge of it. He went on to play Ajax many more times
in Othello (Cutruzzula). He told a story of when he had his first stage injury.
While he was playing Ajax, one of the other main characters had a pole which was
to be used in the scene (Cutruzzula). The actor missed his cue and accidentally
jammed the pole right into Jones foot (Cutruzzula). He then fell and his big toe
skidded across the stage, which hurt even more. Jones then had to be carried off of
the stage (Cutruzzula). This was one of his first mistakes in a play and it has
shaped him since then to be a good actor even in a time of shock (Cutruzzula). We
can see that he knows how to handle himself by the numerous Broadway plays that
he has been in over his lifetime and also the famous movies he was
The Good And The Evil
The Good and The Evil
There is good and there is bad, I was only twelve when I figured this out the hard
way. It was late during school when an alarm went off. I was a kid what can go
wrong I thought to myself as I foolishly opened a door we were clearly prohibited
to open because of a gun man near our school. This very action lead the school to
expel me and this would change my life for the good. Although my bad decisions
helped me know better, it s the bad that lead these three myths to suffer long life
consequences that ultimately explain why the earth is why it is today. These three
myths show the struggles and obstacles the Hebrew, Cherokee, and Maori people
had to overcome because of their vicious ways and or their actions under certain
obstacles that challenged the people of these myths. In the Yahweh myth the author
communicates In the garden was a snake, and the snake persuaded the women that
she could eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil without dying...She
ate the fruit, and gave some to the man too. (Creation Story World 33). Therefore,
the snake making this bad decision, led to Yahweh cursing the snake shouting, you
will be cursed by crawling your whole life and the women s children will eat you,
the women being Eve, whom he had beguiled into eating from the tree of knowledge
of good and evil. But not only was the snake cursed, Adam and Eve were also cursed.
Yahweh told Eve that she would be cured to suffer the pain of childbirth and
Influenza Pandemic Of 1918 Essay
From 1918 1919, the influenza virus swept the world and had disastrous effects.
Different factor contributed to the spread of the virus. Many religious groups
believed the virus was an evil that had fallen on the land and that only God can save
them. Others caught the disease due to the lack of sanitary prevention, such as there
being no inspections in the trading ports. Also many people were ignorant and
knowledgeable about the pandemicbecause of the lack of response from health
/government officials. In all, the lack of authority was a huge contributing factor to
the spread of the influenzavirus.
The Great War helped create the influenza pandemic of 1918, and due to the close

Army recruits in World War One were brought together from a wide range of

Mgt 311 Week 4 Dead Load Analysis
Week 4 Dead load refers to the load of the structure itself while live load refers to
the maximum load that can be applied to the bridge before it stops being static.
When taking in to account the information gained in week 3 regarding the distance
between applied forces and their reaction it is made apparent that taking the live
load of a structure into account becomes more complex. For example a group of
hikers walking across a bridge spaced out from each other will cause a significantly
different reaction when compared to the same group of hikers gathering together on
a single section of the bridge to take a photo. Week 6 If a structure is in static
equilibrium, then any portion or segment of it must also be in static equilibrium. With

The Annexation of Texas Essay
The Mexican War of 1846 1848 was one of major importance to U.S. history, but
has since fallen into annals of obscurity. It was the nation s first war fought on
foreign soil: a war that advocated the concept of manifest destiny , the United States
God given right to claim territory for the establishment of a free democratic society
(Stevenson 2009). Even though many historians claim the war was forced on Mexico
by slaveholders greedy for new territory, President John Polk viewed the war as an
opportunity to defend the annexation of Texas, establish the Rio Grande as its
border, and to acquire the Mexican territories of California and New Mexico
(Stevenson 2009).

Mexican President Jose Herrera refused to negotiate (Stevenson 2009). After failed
negotiations with Mexico, Polk ordered General Zachary Taylor to position his
troops in the disputed territory, north of the Rio Grande River. Mexico, seeing this
as an act of aggression struck first and killed several of Tyler s men. After receiving
word of the skirmish, President Polk petitioned congress, claiming Mexico has
invaded our territory, and shed American blood upon the American soil (Tindall Shi
2010, p. 401). In response, congress unanimously passed the resolution and on May
13, 1846, the United States declared war (Tindall Shi 2010).
In addition to Polk s scheme to pull Mexico into war with the United States, he was
also hatching a plan in the west. With the help of John C. Freemont and a group of
American frontiersmen, known as the Bear Flaggers , he organized a revolt
against Mexican rule and liberated most of California before the U.S. invasion
began. Likewise, Both California and New Mexico were occupied by American
forces prior to the assault on northern Mexico. (Tindall Shi 2010). Securing the
territories of Texas, New Mexico, and California ignited widespread support for the
war and re established the national America s sentiment of manifest destiny. (Tindall

After the bloody assault into the Mexican heart land and capture of the Mexican
Capitol, The Mexican government had little choice but to accept the
School Is An Important Part Of Our Lives
School is an important part of our lives. School help prepare our children for
college and later on life in the big world. Since school is such an important part of
our lives, there are many types for schools that have been developed with different
viewpoints and ways of teaching. First, you have our public schools. Next, is our
religious affiliated private schools and our non religion affiliated private schools.
Lastly, are the alternative schools. Public schools are schools that are funded by the
state. A majority of students in the U.S. attend public schools. My children attend
public schools and in a public schoolthere is no need to pay money to attend public
schools. The good things about public schools is that it s free to attend and they
provide their students with school buses for transportation. Although, a bad thing
would be if you want your child to attend a certain public school and you do not
live their district, then you would have to pay tuition. Private schools are very
common especially in foreign countries. In foreign countries schools are private
because usually the government does not have the money needed to fund a public
school. There are two types of private schools; religious and non religious private
schools. Firstly, private schools are simply schools that are not funded by the state,
that have the ability to make their own codes and rules, such as wearing a school
uniform. In a religion based private school, the school is based around a certain

five of them, for example, unemployment in society causes people to lack

post war a lot of the British people were in need, they had no basic financial support
and health care to keep them alive as well as keeping them above the poverty line
by which income does not cover necessities. Due to lack of financial support
people could not afford education and this resulted in lack of knowledge which is
referred to as Ignorance, this was due to poor education. To make matter worst
there was no national health care because, this had to be paid for, but there was no
money and medical care was not free and this led to the outbreak of many diseases
such as cholera, this was also linked to want, no money no medical care.
Nevertheless, there were hospitals and only the rich in society could afford medical
treatment, however, today the welfare state had made medical treatment available
for all regardless of employment status. People were living in slums because there
was poor housing and this was referred to as squalors, there is no

Adventure tourism:
Hall and Weiler defined adventure tourism as:
A broad spectrum of outdoor touristic activities, often commercialized and involving
an interaction with the natural environment away from the participant s home range
and containing elements of risk; in which the outcome is influenced by the
participant, setting, and management of the touristic experience (1992:143).
The above citation briefly describes the experience of adventure traveler. Adventure
tourism is interaction to the new environment and cultural setting which creates a
unique experience for the travelers. Mountain expeditions have become one of the
main parts of adventure tourism. Mountains in particular attract many backpackers
and adventure seeker tourists. The factors that have facilitated the emergence of
adventure tourism which has made impact on mountaineering are a deferring of
control to experts, a proliferation of promotional media including brochures, and the
application of technology in adventurous settings making the urban location and
extraordinary experience of adventure holiday (Beedie Hudson, 2003).
Adventure tourism is growing rapidly in developing countries. The increase in the
number of mountaineering expeditions benefits the host country and the local
Internet Neutrality
Who owns the internet? The common opinion is that the web is a free and equal
source for all its users, belonging to no one and everyone at the same time, however
the increasing monopolization of content producers and methods of access has
become a major cause for concern. As a unified, single entity, the Internetdoes not
belong to any single person or organization, but the quality and levels of access
available are dependent on thousands of corporate groups and impact every internet
user. While once seen as an equalizing field, discussions of web fast lanes, private
platforms, and pay for play access have turned the once obviously neutral Internet into
a highly contested structure. Net neutrality is a step forward towards ensuring a future

The preferential leveraging of certain websites by telos and ISPs inherently
implies reduced access to others, Panda explains, ...this could lead to blocking
others, either fully or, with choked access... ISPs are the gateway through which all
access must pass. Millions of web pages, platforms, app, services, with any and all
types of information and resources available. There are small, niche sites (Reddit
forums on Twilight Zone special features) to large, global content (the DOW
summary) available at all hours of the day, and while the educational value of each
of these would undoubtedly vary from person to person, access to both of these does
not. Comparatively, in a world without net neutrality equalized education is
constantly at risk depending on their whims of the ISP. Attempting to access event
coverage on FOX news could be slowed or blocked completely if Comcast is your
internet service provider. This not only leads to biased or even misinformation, but
further monetizes the very nature of education. Paid prioritization, where those with
the most financial resources can speed up access to their content, would hurt public
and non profit content providers, such as libraries, that cannot afford a fast lane for
research and archival collections (Long). Additionally, because content providers
that pay more for fast lanes could pass extra charges on to consumers for access to
organizations that have not paid for such lanes, leading libraries and schools to end
up paying more for commercial content while still losing their consumer base. ISPs
are businesses at their core and thus have financial incentives to favor their own
content over others, but once customers pay for their internet access, they should have
the rights to choose the content they access. When someone purchases a car, they

National Hockey Research Paper
The National Hockey League, like any other professional sports league, relies on
statistics to measure and project the success and potential of its players. The NHL
has, and still continues, to use a slightly convoluted and oft misinterpreted statistic
known as plus minus (+/ ) to measure defensive contributions a player makes while
on the ice. In the NHL and in virtually all major sports, the offensive contributions of
playersand teams are easily tracked and calculated. It is often a binary matter, and
not open to interpretation; if an NHL player is on the ice, shoots the puck at the net,
and it goes past the goaltender, it s a goal. That goal is then confirmed, tracked, and
added to the player s Goals Scored statistic. The tracking of... Show more content on

Context Dependent Memory Essay
An Investigation into the role of either Context or State on Memory
Introduction
Context Dependent Memory is an improved recall of specific information when the
context is present at both encoding and retreival (an individuals ability to recall a
memory is greater because the same surroundings have been recreated from when the
created the memory) e.g. retracing your steps to find a lost item. Some theories
towards context dependent memory include: Context dependency effects for memory
recall are typically interpreted as showing that the characteristics of the surroundings
are encoded as part of the memory trace and can be used to improve retrieval of
information in the trace (Eich, 1980; Smith, 1988); a number of factors are thought to
affect how contextual information interacts with the recall of memory, an analysis of
the literature on environmental context dependency memory by Smith and Vela
(2001) infers that in cases where contextual information is not particularly prominent,
the context dependent effects on memory are reduced; Johnson et al s (1993)
Source Monitoring Framework proposes that the ability of an individual to
remember the source of an episode will affect the likelihood of that memory to be
recalled. Therefore, in the case of context dependent memory, this framework implies
that the effects of context on memory may also be limited by cognitive factors such

The Role Of The Druze Religion In The World
The Druze religion is one of the most exclusive religions in the world. Within the
religion, one can only be born into it and is a member until they chose to leave.
When one makes the decision to leave, they can never rejoin the religion afterwards.
The exclusivity makes it so people have the opportunity to live their lives in the
religionwhile not taking it for granted. Members of the Druze religion live their
lives according to the rules set, but can chose when to stop following them. Being
a kid is similar to being in a religion. After being born into it, one is a kid until they
no longer identify as one; when that day comes, there is no turning back. Kids have
changed drastically over time, while decreasing in size as well. Today, the

Essay On Western Meditation
The purpose of ER #12 is to illustrate the true purpose of meditation and the ways in
which one can achieve this true purpose, however, when this purpose is juxtaposed
against the modern, Western interpretation of the art of meditation, one thing is clear;
these are not the same. The popular, western meditation, at its heart, attempts to reach
the same things that the Buddhist meditation tries to reach: peace, tranquility, and
happiness, but those that reach their goals in western meditation practices are not
reaching the same goals as those who practice Buddhist meditation. Buddhist
meditation at its heart is an attempt to reach nirvana, while those who practice western
meditation are reaching a relaxed state that helps to promote peace, tranquility, and
happiness.
The peace that is reached in western meditation is something that is fleeting, as the
stressors of everyday life remove this peaceful feeling and replace it with the chaos
that is everyday. To reach a true trance state requires the mindfulness and active
thought of sГЎmatha, a western cannot reach what those who have practiced
meditation their whole lives can. The meditation that is done in the popularized
version is only a small shell of what Buddhist monks truly practice. The concentration

Their happiness comes from the relaxed state they will find themselves in, while the
Buddhist will find their state in nirvana, which they may be lucky to find in this life,
or the next. Happiness in terms of these two different philosophies is quite different.
To remove stress in the western manner, is happiness, but to achieve happiness in the
Buddhist sense is a road of eradicating suffering and desire, a task that may never be
complete; the gratification of the western practice is immediate, while their s is only
delayed gratification in the Buddhist
The Meaning Of Modern Art By Terrence Malild
In chapters two and three of The Meaning of Modern Art, Karsten Harries describes
two ways that the relationship between man and nature is understood, and how these
understandings are evident in the changing artistic styles and philosophical themes of
the time. Harries describes two ways of seeing man s relationship with nature. Either
nature is beneath man s reason, and thus art must reconstruct nature in the image of
reason or man s relationship with nature is one of intense conflict, in which time and
nature conquer man, and only by submitting to nature s oppressive force can man
find some victory (Harries 17). In the latter view man is able to escape into his own
selfand there hear the voices of the gods; in the midst of life he... Show more content

Not long after, they have constructed a colony that is utterly separated from the
natural world by a wall, and inside, they have trampled all the grass and wildlife into
mud. The man from Europe, with his ideas of order and reason, has violently
imposed himself onto nature in the Cartesian tradition. Yet Malick does not present
this as the only option. Even as the ships are arriving in America, we see the natives
looking out at the oncoming Cartesians in their vast and geometric ships through a
field of trees. Quite literally, the natives perceive the world through the lens of nature.
They see things through and among the trees and the wildlife. They are actively
immersed in nature, living in harmony with it. At one point, we see Pocahontas, one
of the natives, dancing in an open field with her brother, simply enjoying the glory
of nature, allowing the beauty of life to live through her playfulness and simplicity.
Instead of trampling the grass and chopping down the trees, the natives dance
among them, as if nature was a dear friend. A colonists even remarks that the natives
are timid like a herd of curious deer , implying that he sees their harmony with
nature, but because he views nature as beneath man, there is a sense of disgust in his
words. This is one of the many contrasts between the natives and the colonists in the
film. One of the most striking contrasts Malick illustrates is in the way each uses
Lessons For Children From Two To Three Years Old By
Anna...
Throughout the story Lessons for Children, from Two to Three Years Old by Anna
Laetitia Barbauld, a mother is trying to teach her child lessons throughout the normal
routine of their day. This routine includes many interactions between Charles and
objects, animals, and other people. I will take a closer look at how the text represents
the family cat, Puss, as an animal that deserves to be treated with respect. Whenever
Puss is mentioned in the text, the motheris trying to teach Charles a lesson on the
proper way to treat her and other animals properly.
I will begin my examining the following quotation: You cannot catch Puss. / Do not
pull her by the tail, you hurt her. / Stroke poor puss. You stroke her the wrong way.

Two Kinds Figurative Language
Paulo Coelho once said Don t waste your time on explanations, people only hear what
they want to hear. The quote said by Paul Coelho connects to the story as a mood of a
life lesson within the main character (narrator) that goes through major struggles
throughout their life of trying to keep their mothersatisfied with their actions. The
mood shows how each thing changes throughout time and more. In the story Two
kinds by Amy Tan, the author uses figurative language and descriptive language to
develop the mood of the story.

A beginning would be when the narrator is taken to a beauty school by her mother,
she is given a haircut and states: Instead of getting big fat curls, I emerged with an
uneven mass of crinkly black fuzz. The author uses words such as Big fat curls
and Even mass of crinkly black fuzz to let the reader visualize the look of the girl.
This is an example of descriptive words. Another addition of descriptive words is
when the mother and daughter see a girl on television. The narrator states The girl
had the sauciness of a Shirley Temple. She was proudly modest, like a proper
Chinese Child . The words such as sauciness and modest describe how the girl on
the television seemed to look and act like. The descriptive words help the reader
understand what the narrator saw in this girl. It gave off an ashamed mood from
the narrator, since she herself could not satisfy her mother so easily. A concluding
example would be during the fight between the mother and daughter. She explains
how she reacted by announcing I was sobbing by now, looking at her bitterly. The
mood expressed by her bitter words set off a defensive mood, showing how she was
in tears and sobbing throughout the argument. This helps the reader get a visual of
how she looked like. The descriptive words throughout the story provided by Amy
Tan helps shape the mood of Two kinds by using.
In the story Two kinds by Amy Tan, the author uses multiple
First Person Narrative Research
First person narrative research is a term that uses a group of approaches that in turn
depend on spoken words, written works or pictures/drawings of people. These
approaches tend to focus on the lives of individuals as told through their own stories.
The importance and focus within such approaches is in the narrative, usually based on
both what and how it is narrated. The audience validates narrative research. Being
a very useful tool and all, narrative method may not always be strong enough to
stand alone as a central piece of evidence in concluding a point. Regardless if it is
part of a presentation or whether it is a stand alone piece of information, it must be
accepted, based on its own merits as an individual experienceand... Show more

The narrative method allows for an intimate look into the emotions, thoughts and
experiences within a story based on the fact that another has witnessed such or intern
through another s work along for a great picture to be established. Being easily able
to validate a claim or narrative account through another is also a huge benefit of the
method making it easier for the truth to come out and harder for lies to see the light.
Personal narratives and information gained from narrative methods tend to come
from truthful sources based on not wanting to tarnish individual s credibility, and not
seeing a reason in creating lies and misleading information. Nevertheless, many
problems can also be seen within the method harder and less likely to prevent. The
limited perspective is detrimental in the sense that only that one perspective s views
through emotion and feeling are used to describe the situation if there had only been
one account. Unless there are multiple viewpoints from different individuals who
think and act differently put together to create one image from all different sides,
which isn t very practical to do. The narrative method also creates a restricted view in
the sense that anything the reader does not know, you don t know. Such as taking into
consideration different socio contexts and the individuals thinking spectrums. The
narrative account may also be biased, understanding the story through ones eyes,
leaves room for events and facts to change based on what the individual thinks, wants,
and knows at the
Difference Between EWOM And WOM
In the modern marketing world, consumers are classified in many types according to
various criteria and characteristics, such as: gender, age, geographic area and
individual customer behavior. In general, customer behavior and especially buying
behavior represent the most essential element that sellers take into account when
planning a marketingstrategy.
This paper is divided into four parts. Firstly, a brief overview of WOM and eWOM
is demonstrated. Secondly, a detailed review of online consumer reviews (OCRs)
literature and how it relates to WOM and eWOM will be discussed. Then, the
influence of OCRs on consumers purchase intentions and marketing performance
measures, along with the factors that moderate and mediate such effects are
addressed. Finally, conclusions are drawn and research streams ... Show more content

First, unlike traditional WOM which is transformed by familiar means, such as
family and friends (Jeong and Jang, 2011), eWOM is sometimes posted by
unidentified individuals and thus could have an impact on its credibility (Park et
al., 2007; Park and Lee, 2009). Studies have stated that due to the way that
traditional WOM is communicated, it has a far greater impact on product judgment
than those of electronic WOM (Mazzarol et al., 2007). Second, Cheung and Lee
(2012) argue that since eWOM communication is generally in a written format that
can be observed, it is measurable and controllable than traditional WOM. Further,
Technological advances have given eWOM higher speed and coverage than
traditional WOM (Lee, 2009). Therefore, the potential impact of eWOM on
consumers decision making processes can be more powerful than the impact of
traditional WOM (Jeong and Jang, 2011). Given such differences, Godes and Mayzlin
(2004) highlight that eWOM could prevail over the limitations of traditional
Serpent Of The Night Research Paper
Serpents of the Night Bullets shot through the building at every angle. Bodies lay
across the floor. The floor was slick with their blood. People were scrambling on
top of each other to get to the stairs; nobody dared to go outside. Going outside
promised death, at least inside there was a chance to survive. Get out of the way.
Avery shrieked as the bullets rang through the building. People were falling left
and right as bullets ripped through their skin. There was nothing that Avery could
do except survive. She scrambled up the stairs to get away from the masked
intruders. One of the bullets grazed her on the leg, and she stumbled falling on the
flat platform above her. She could hear the clanking of heavy boots running up the
stairs behind along with the sounds of a new cartridge being put in a gun. To her,
this was the end. There was no way they were going to survive and it was all Jude s

The Legend Of King Arthur, A Legend Or Legend
The history of king Arthur has been an argumentative debate on whether or not he
was a legend or myth. Since King Arthurs days on earth their has been an on going
debate with no real evidence to prove each side of the argument. People believe that
King Arthur was a legend because he was such a heroic warrior. Other people think
he is a myth because of the tales that were told, and of no one being sure whether his
grave site is. King Arthurhad fought in many battles which made him such a heroic
warrior along with all of his knights of the round table. King Arthur was born in a
village called Cornwall. His mother had given birth to him in a fortress of Tintage,

Many people would talk or sing songs about King Arthur ( Enigmas #11). Also
people called the bards would tell tales about a leader who had some battles against
invaders, but the stories about King Arthr may have been fantasized. No one really
knows if King Arthur was really a historical figure. The only thing people have to
go by is by what was told to them. There are debates that tell whether or not King
Arthur is a historical figure. Kin Arthur ws the heart of Arthurian Legend, because
of his leadership and of all of the battles he had won throughout his existence
(Currin The Lady Of The Lake web). King Arthur had left his cousin Mordred, in
charge of the kingdom until he got back from fighting Lancelot. While King Arthur
was away at battle Mordred decided he wanted to take control of the kingdom, so
King Arthur came back to take his kingdom back. While King Arthur and Mordred
were at battle King Arthur didn t know that this would be his last battle. King Arthur
had won the battle but he was greatly wounded, and was taken away to Avalon to be
healed. Avalon was also identified as Glastonbury, supposedly King Arthurs grave
was found in Glastonbury (Coghlan Arthurian Legends
Developing A Quality Product Within Budget And On Time
Introduction
Testing is an integral part of the entire process of designing and developing a quality
product within budget and on time. In order to achieve this, a project manager need
to be able to clearly see the schedules, receive meaningful deliverables, as well as
take recognition of genuine issues, which testing groups, as is the case with all other
software groups have these in plenty Prior to this, however, the whole testing process
need careful planning, managing, and reviewing. An effective test managementserves
to ensure that products offered by a firm receive comprehensive, well documented
testing in addition to being fully ready for production.
Techniques and attitudes for testing group
Successful test group management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A test group has essentially four main functions: quality control, quality assurance,
testing services, and developing services (Kaner, Falk, Nguyen, 2000).
The Quality control
The quality group wields significant amount of power over a test group for the
reason that QC inspectors can easily stop the shipment of the product until all
procedures and standards are met, and all designated problems are resolved.
According to the IEEE standard 610 [2], quality control refers to a set of activities
designed to evaluate the quality of developed or manufactured products (Black, 2013)
As such, quality control is a term applied in a hardware manufacturing or hardware
environment, in which a large scope of physical items are produced and/or shipped.
Each of the produced items has to be taken through a thorough testing process for the
purpose of ensuring the quality of product is high enough for ship. Failure to meet
high quality standards would result in the rejection of the product or system.
Therefore, the quality control group within a manufacturing organization conducts a
quality check, under the leadership of a quality controller. Quality control needs need
to follow solid item library management that allows for traceability, uniformity
predictability which are attained through testing of the design, the developed
products, the product relationships, as well as the product system (Farrell Vinay,
2008). The quality controls are crucial in

The Gogol Grotesque Characters Grotesque Characters When talking about the grotesque uncertainty and confusion is often common because when someone or something is grotesque it is out of the norm we don t usually see or hear about it. In Gogol s The Nose the grotesque is present throughout the whole story and especially with the two main characters Ivan Yakovlevich and Collegiate Assessor Kovalyov. A reader of this story will notice the similarities and the differences that these two characters share. This response to The Nosewill compare and contrast the two main characters and show how they are grotesque. The title of this story alone should tell the reader that this is most likely about a nose or something pertaining to that particular body part which is different. The title alone can make the reader ask questions before they even start to read the story. As one may read and find out that the story is about a nose and how Collegiate Assessor Kovalyov (also referred to as major) loses his nose. As Ivan Yakovlevich is sitting down to eat a roll he feels something in the roll. He pokes two fingers in and pulled out a nose! (Gogol 113). Ivan freaks out as any normal person would do and decides to get rid of the evidence and drops it off a bridge. The major on the other hand wakes up one morning to find he has lost his nose and has no idea where it is. He later finds his nose acting as a person who has a rank that is three higher than his. • 7. Essay on Attacks on the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania On August 7, 1998, two U.S. embassies were attacked almost simultaneously. One was in Nairobi, Kenya and the other in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The attack in Kenya involved both a truck bomb and at least two suicide bombers. The truck was at the back entrance of the embassy when the bomb went off, and the damage was critical. This attack had more casualties than the bombing in Tanzania because the truck that contained the bomb was able to get into the inner embassy compound. Also, the Nairobi embassy was close to the center of the city which was more populated and led to more deaths. The U.S. embassy was not the only building affected in the explosion. She had been meeting outside with Joseph Kamotho, Kenya s trade minister. Their first thought from hearing the smaller blast was that it must be the noise from construction. Another victim, Linda Howard, witnessed the explosion around 10:40 A.M. She was on the fourth floor of the United States Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya and was in a meeting. Soon after she heard the small explosion, she suddenly realized that all of the windows were currently being blasted, the roof was caving in, and smoke seemed to appear from every direction. Before she had analyzed what was going on, she was being yelled at by Embassy guards to get down on the floor. After fifteen minutes of crawling around without being able to see, they had reached the ground floor. What Howard saw next terrified her. She saw lifeless bodies, fires everywhere, and the screams of terrified people. Bill Bar who is director of the U.S. Information Service in Kenya, was also at the same meeting as Linda Howard. He also recalls hearing a thump and thought it was possibly the sound of a grenade being thrown at the embassy. Some also recall hearing gunfire outside of the embassy before the big explosion. • 8. The Democratization Of South Korea Kyle Borgman Professor Porter Global Democracy 1 December 2014 The Democratization of South Korea Long before the hustle and bustle of the big city, ages afore the creation of one of the world s largest standing militaries, the Republic of South Korea was one of the farthest governments from a democracy. Following the Japanese occupation of World War Two, the South Korean government went through many different forms of authority. According to Jung Hae Gu, professor of Social Sciences at the University of Sung Kong Hoe in Korea, and Kim Ho Ki, professor of Sociology at Yonsie University in Korea, the Republic of Korea has so far went through a total of 6 different regime changes since the liberation from Japanese occupation (Hae Gu, Ho Ki). The shifts in government occurred under various regimes, Rhee Syng Man, Park Chung Hee, Chun Doo Hwan, and the June Uprising of 1987 (Hae Gu, Ho Ki). But the lead up to the democratization of South Korea has a more fluid past though, one of hardship and struggle, fluctuation between authoritarian regimes and military run governments. The pressures that caused the governments to change play a very vital role though too, they are the forces that shape the government and the ruling nature. The current ruling democracy was forged by the previous governments and deserves to be examined and discussed because they are obliviously the ones in charge right now. And lastly, the current military state of South Korea is to be reviewed. The
  • 9. Figurative Language In Daisy Miller Authors often design highly complex characters that toy with readers emotions and force them to tirelessly ruminate on their personas, traits, and intrinsic qualities. These types of characters artfully enhance works of literature by bringing a variety of underlying dimensions to their respected pieces. Each quality that defines them subtly contributes to themes in a piece and touches readers in different ways. To fully appreciate a characterof this depth, they must be broken down and analyzed from several perspectives. A character from American literature that fits this profound archetype is Henry James s character Winterbourne from the short storyDaisy Miller: A Study. In this piece, Winterbourne is illustrated as an American young adult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While ineffectiveness is not an example of good virtue, it functions in the same way as many of Winterbourne s other traits, such as his submissiveness, by shielding his morality from his actions. To clarify, he is portrayed as an intrinsically good person, but his ineffectiveness stops him from explicitly displaying it. James alludes to this by referencing the superb portrait of Innocent X (p. 359). This portrayal of the Innocent X was Diego Velasquez s realist interpretation of a Catholic Pope. Innocent X is famously regarded as a man who lead a very controversial term as pope and was subject to manipulation from some of the women in his life. More importantly, he is described as a relatively ineffective person, meaning internal conflicts often obstructed his decision making and impeded him from acting on his beliefs. This is much the same for Winterbourne who, on the other hand, has the pleasure of contemplating a picture of a different kind Daisy, that pretty American girl (p. 359). His perpetual deliberation over Daisy aligns him well with the Innocent X, making James s allusion a critical piece to Winterbourne s description as a good natured person who repeatedly fails to show it via his actions. Winterbourne spends such a large part of the story analyzing Daisy (hence the name, Daisy Miller: A Study) that he never ends

Buddhism, The Noble Eightfold Path And The Four Noble Truths Buddhism was an incredibly intriguing religion to me due to the emphasis placed on the reality that surrounds us, it s a rational religion based on peace, self understanding and the ultimate goal of nirvana. Buddhist followers live their life with three main goals; morality, meditation and enlightenment. Ultimately the core teachings of Buddhismare The Noble Eightfold Pathand The Four Noble Truths. • 13. Battle Of Stalingrad Turning Point The Battle of Stalingrad was the successful Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad (present day Volgograd) in the U.S.S.R during World War II. The battle for Stalingrad was fought between the Soviet Union and the Axis of Germany, Romania, Italy, Hungary, and Croatia from August 23, 1942 to February 2, 1943. The major parts of the battle occurred in Eastern Europe in present day Ukraine and into the Soviet Unionup to the Volga River which splits the city of Stalingrad. The battle of Stalingradonly occurred because of Adolf Hitler s hatred for Soviet President Joseph Stalin and the city being named after him. The city was not of importance, as the German Sixth Army s mission was to seize the oil fields in the Caucuses to the south of Stalingrad. There are many lessons to be learned from this battle. Had they left the political aspect of the military decision making process, military commanders may have been able to run the war
  • 14. Thermal Fracking Research Paper The path of gasoline through the materials economy must be changed, because if it is not, than the environment would greatly suffer. Gasoline is created by the process of distillation, by separating the volatile, which is the more valuable parts of crude petroleum. This was changed and was later processed, to raise the yield of gasoline from crude oil, and to split large molecules into smaller ones by the processes called cracking. Thermal cracking was the act of employing heat and high pressures. This was introduced in 1913. However, in 1927 this process was replaced with catalytic cracking, which was the addition of catalysts that facilitate chemical reactions. This produced more gasoline in the end. • 15. Comparing The Iliad and The Bible Essay Comparing The Iliad and The Bible Throughout recorded history, man has sought explanations for the various phenomena that occur in every facet of nature, and when no obvious answer is forthcoming, still a theory is often proposed. These explanatory theories, often taking the form of stories or chronicles, are usually linked to some sort of mysticism or divine intervention. By ascribing that which he does not understand to the gods will at work, man avoids facing up to his own lack of knowledge in a given area, and also draws comfort from assuming that the universe does indeed function under the guidance of divine beings. Thus the explanatory accounts that man crafts enhance his own security, quelling the fear of chaos that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In ancient Greek culture the gods were seen as taking a very active role in the development and course of human history. The entire Olympian pantheon, as well as many other less important divinities, meddles in human affairs to no end. The people of the many city states that composed Greece firmly believed that every aberration from normalcy was due to an act of the gods. Homer, the author of The Iliad, coined the prevalent religious beliefs of the time in his epic poems, showing the gods as temperamental and willful, meddlesome and dynamic. Homer s entire poem is replete with instances of divine intervention in mortal lives, and no single major occurrence comes to pass unless it is the will of one of the many Olympian gods. Few major decisions are made without consulting the gods first, and the handful of instances in which one leader or another takes initiative almost always fails miserably. Life, according to the Greeks, is almost entirely rooted in their religion, as there is a god or goddess governing every aspect of the universe, and also because the gods so actively involve themselves in the everyday lives of mortals. A classic example of this divine involvement occurs within the first page of The Iliad. Achilles, the great hero of the Achaean armies, and Agamemnon the commander in chief of the Argives clash bitterly, and the entire epic centers on this conflict. Homer details the cause of this

  • 17. Similarities Between Judicial Activism And Strict... The Supreme Court is made up of many justices that believe in two different judicial philosophies. These two philosophies are that of judicial activism and strict constructionism. These philosophies differ quite a bit from one another, but they both work toward the same main goal. Both philosophies play a part in court cases when it comes to deciding on a final ruling. Judicial activism is a judicial philosophy that states that a court has the right to, and should go beyond what is stated in the Constitution about an issue that is being brought up and look towards broader suggestions of the impending decision on said issue. Basically, the court strikes down a law and then makes a statement that [may] change a law or policy in a significant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case the Supreme Court determined that Texas law criminalizing, or essentially trying to outlaw abortion was unconstitutional. Strict Constructionism, on the other hand, is a distinct legal philosophy that limits or controls some judicial interpretation. A judge who uses strict constructionism, may reject the use of legislative history when constructing law because whatever a particular legislator may have said while on the floor of congress does not necessarily reflect what was put into law (Stankiewicz) . Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court is probably one of the most we ll know users of strict constructionism. In essence, he believes that the Constitution should only ever be interpreted the way it was written never any different. Scalia also believes that the Constitution should not be susceptible to any form of updating by any court. In 2015 the Supreme Court ruled on a case about same sex marriage, Obergfell v. Hodges. The final ruling (holding) of the case, stated by SCOTUSBlog, the fourteenth amendment requires a state to license a marriage between two people of the same sex and also to recognize a marriage between two people of the same sex when their marriage was lawfully licensed and performed

Groups such as Aum Shinirikyo, Al Qaeda, ISIS, and other domestic terrorists have been known to attack innocent communities by using IEDs, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons. Attacks, such as the SarinAttack in Tokyo in 1995, is a prime example in which a terrorist group, Aum Shinirikyo, used a chemical nerve agentto attack citizens in Japanese subway. These chemical attacks as well as other WMDs pose unique threats for first responders. It is important to consider these threats as well as the time, location, number of anticipated causalities, and the type of chemical agent used when responding to a chemical attack. It is the responsibility of officials on a local, state, and federal level to facilitate not only the initial response in a chemical attack but also the recovery and cleanup efforts weeks after. • 20. The Importance Of Voter Voting In The United States Despite popular opinion that the United States is the greatest democracy in the world, we have shockingly low voter turnout compared to international standards (Desilver). A complicated registration process and strict restrictions on voting consistently discourage and inhibit Americans from exercising their right to vote. Despite this, lawmakers continue to push for and often pass unnecessary legislation limiting the ways in which citizens can register and cast their ballot. Certain demographics are the most likely to be hindered by this kind of legislation, including young people, poor people, and people of color. Politicians often use claims of voter fraud as an excuse to systematically hinder these marginalized groups from participating in the democratic process, despite being unable to back up those claims with any kind of concrete evidence. The limiting of votingrights for young and minority populations is often blatantly politically motivated. Continuing to pile restrictions and obstacles onto our electoral process is not only unnecessary, it is contradictory to democratic values. There should be a shift in the focus of voting legislation towards expanding the ways in which citizens can participate in elections and away from limiting them, which would both increase voter turnoutand ensure that all people have an equal voice in our government. Voter registration legislation being used as a tactic to disenfranchise minority voters has a long history in United States

They are flush with idyllic imagery of countryside scenery, animals and abundant greenery, shepherds tending to their flock the simplicity of a life most intimately intertwined with the natural world. In English Pastoral Poetry, Sir William Empson describes pastoralwriting as a method of putting the complex into the simple (22). Through idealized and vivid lines, Virgilattests to the greatness of the everyday desserts of life, the song of a woodman pruning the trees , the cool of the shade , and the vine on the leafy elm (7). Tityrus explains to Meliboeus that after travelling to Rome and meeting a young man, who has widely been presumed to be the Roman emperor Augustus, he has obtained definitive ownership of his land and need not worry about it being repurposed into housing for discharged soldiers. Meanwhile, Tityrus, the shepherd whom many have speculated to be representative of Virgil, basks in his freedom and love for Augustus, a god [who] gave [him] this peace (3). Prior to his travels to Rome, Tityrus suffered in a relationship with the greedy Galatea, in which freedom was a concept unknown to him. His transformation from enslavement to liberation is found through a fusion of urban (Rome) and rural (Arcadia) instances, thus confirming the pastoral element of Virgil to be only complete in this Eclogue when observing similarities and differences between the intricate and the simplistic. Within this employment of the pastoral mode, of its indulgent language and both its conventional and unconventional themes, a light is shone on the poet, Virgil himself, that illuminates the facets of his political and personal thought subtly implemented in the First Eclogue. While he lived comfortably in his home on the coast of Northern Italy, his acquaintances were

She uses a different method to make us feel the suspense of the story with vivid details. You only live life once so why not take advantage of it? In The Color Purple, Celie s life is the contrary. You may ask why, but there are people out there who are afraid to speak up. Alice Walkerseemed to portray this novel very well making it seem realistic. The tone Walker used in the novel seemed confessional and private towards the only person she could actually tell her feelings to, God. It is also oblivious that Alice Walker is emphasizing on the idea that the dominant culture were the white people and some take advantage of the issue against the weaker people, African American people. In this story, the author makes a point suggesting that women should speak up and not be afraid since if they do they can make a changed in the world. Alice Walker is exactly an example of it showing it in her writing in the book trying to break a barrier against these two races. For example, when the Mayor asked Sofia if she wanted to be his wife s maid and Sofia replied with a hell no, he slapped her for giving her that answer to him and his wife. Knowing her characteristics in the book, we would know she would hit the Mayor back, which she did and ended up in prison since then. She would be in there for a long time, and when she got there, they beat her cracking her skull and ribs, tear her nose loose on one side and blind her from one eye. The policemen did this to her because of her actions and her skin color. Throughout the first part of the book, Walker makes Celie seem like a person who does not really know what she is worth or who she is. After all it is not her to blame since they treated her like a slave because she as well was black. All she knows is that she does not enjoy her life and is not even treated like a normal human being. Alice Walker was African American and also lived in

There are small, niche sites (Reddit forums on Twilight Zone special features) to large, global content (the DOW summary) available at all hours of the day, and while the educational value of each of these would undoubtedly vary from person to person, access to both of these does not. Comparatively, in a world without net neutrality equalized education is constantly at risk depending on their whims of the ISP. Attempting to access event coverage on FOX news could be slowed or blocked completely if Comcast is your internet service provider. This not only leads to biased or even misinformation, but further monetizes the very nature of education. Paid prioritization, where those with the most financial resources can speed up access to their content, would hurt public and non profit content providers, such as libraries, that cannot afford a fast lane for research and archival collections (Long). Additionally, because content providers that pay more for fast lanes could pass extra charges on to consumers for access to organizations that have not paid for such lanes, leading libraries and schools to end up paying more for commercial content while still losing their consumer base. ISPs are businesses at their core and thus have financial incentives to favor their own content over others, but once customers pay for their internet access, they should have the rights to choose the content they access. Context Dependent Memory Essay An Investigation into the role of either Context or State on Memory Introduction Context Dependent Memory is an improved recall of specific information when the context is present at both encoding and retreival (an individuals ability to recall a memory is greater because the same surroundings have been recreated from when the created the memory) e.g. retracing your steps to find a lost item. Some theories towards context dependent memory include: Context dependency effects for memory recall are typically interpreted as showing that the characteristics of the surroundings are encoded as part of the memory trace and can be used to improve retrieval of information in the trace (Eich, 1980; Smith, 1988); a number of factors are thought to affect how contextual information interacts with the recall of memory, an analysis of the literature on environmental context dependency memory by Smith and Vela (2001) infers that in cases where contextual information is not particularly prominent, the context dependent effects on memory are reduced; Johnson et al s (1993) Source Monitoring Framework proposes that the ability of an individual to remember the source of an episode will affect the likelihood of that memory to be recalled. Therefore, in the case of context dependent memory, this framework implies that the effects of context on memory may also be limited by cognitive factors such as the ability of an individuals to differentiate between separate ... Within the religion, one can only be born into it and is a member until they chose to leave. When one makes the decision to leave, they can never rejoin the religion afterwards. The exclusivity makes it so people have the opportunity to live their lives in the religionwhile not taking it for granted. Members of the Druze religion live their lives according to the rules set, but can chose when to stop following them. Being a kid is similar to being in a religion. After being born into it, one is a kid until they no longer identify as one; when that day comes, there is no turning back. Kids have changed drastically over time, while decreasing in size as well. It is not a topic that is discussed a ton, and I believe it would be good to get exposed to their history. Learning more about the current transgender movements is an issue we should also become more informed on. The news does not talk about the violence directed towards transgenderpeople, so I think we should get more educated on what they are going through. I never really heard about the violence towards transgender individuals because I come from a small town and it is not really an issue that is brought up on the news often. 4) I thought it was really interesting when they brought up the issue of a lot of transgender characters being played by cisgender actors and actresses. I am sure there are plenty of extremely talented transgender actresses and actors. I feel like the casting people did not try to reach out to the transgender group of actors and actresses. I my opinion, transgender individuals would relate more to the transgender characters. I think it would add a lot of authenticity, so I believe more shows should look for a transgender to play their transgender role of characters. It is super admiring that Laverne is using her celebrity status to spread awareness about the discriminations and violence that is directed to the transgender community. More and more people are becoming more open about being transgender, so I think as a society we need to be more accepting of differences between each other. Essay On Western Meditation The purpose of ER #12 is to illustrate the true purpose of meditation and the ways in which one can achieve this true purpose, however, when this purpose is juxtaposed against the modern, Western interpretation of the art of meditation, one thing is clear; these are not the same. The popular, western meditation, at its heart, attempts to reach the same things that the Buddhist meditation tries to reach: peace, tranquility, and happiness, but those that reach their goals in western meditation practices are not reaching the same goals as those who practice Buddhist meditation. Buddhist meditation at its heart is an attempt to reach nirvana, while those who practice western meditation are reaching a relaxed state that helps to promote peace, tranquility, and happiness. The peace that is reached in western meditation is something that is fleeting, as the stressors of everyday life remove this peaceful feeling and replace it with the chaos that is everyday. To reach a true trance state requires the mindfulness and active thought of sГЎmatha, a western cannot reach what those who have practiced meditation their whole lives can. The meditation that is done in the popularized version is only a small shell of what Buddhist monks truly practice. • 42. The Meaning Of Modern Art By Terrence Malild In chapters two and three of The Meaning of Modern Art, Karsten Harries describes two ways that the relationship between man and nature is understood, and how these understandings are evident in the changing artistic styles and philosophical themes of the time. Harries describes two ways of seeing man s relationship with nature. Either nature is beneath man s reason, and thus art must reconstruct nature in the image of reason or man s relationship with nature is one of intense conflict, in which time and nature conquer man, and only by submitting to nature s oppressive force can man find some victory (Harries 17). In the latter view man is able to escape into his own selfand there hear the voices of the gods; in the midst of life he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not long after, they have constructed a colony that is utterly separated from the natural world by a wall, and inside, they have trampled all the grass and wildlife into mud. The man from Europe, with his ideas of order and reason, has violently imposed himself onto nature in the Cartesian tradition. Yet Malick does not present this as the only option. Even as the ships are arriving in America, we see the natives looking out at the oncoming Cartesians in their vast and geometric ships through a field of trees. Quite literally, the natives perceive the world through the lens of nature. They see things through and among the trees and the wildlife. They are actively immersed in nature, living in harmony with it. At one point, we see Pocahontas, one of the natives, dancing in an open field with her brother, simply enjoying the glory of nature, allowing the beauty of life to live through her playfulness and simplicity. Instead of trampling the grass and chopping down the trees, the natives dance among them, as if nature was a dear friend. A colonists even remarks that the natives are timid like a herd of curious deer , implying that he sees their harmony with nature, but because he views nature as beneath man, there is a sense of disgust in his words. This is one of the many contrasts between the natives and the colonists in the film. One of the most striking contrasts Malick illustrates is in the way each uses

These approaches tend to focus on the lives of individuals as told through their own stories. The importance and focus within such approaches is in the narrative, usually based on both what and how it is narrated. The audience validates narrative research. Being a very useful tool and all, narrative method may not always be strong enough to stand alone as a central piece of evidence in concluding a point. The narrative method allows for an intimate look into the emotions, thoughts and experiences within a story based on the fact that another has witnessed such or intern through another s work along for a great picture to be established. Being easily able to validate a claim or narrative account through another is also a huge benefit of the method making it easier for the truth to come out and harder for lies to see the light. Personal narratives and information gained from narrative methods tend to come from truthful sources based on not wanting to tarnish individual s credibility, and not seeing a reason in creating lies and misleading information. Nevertheless, many problems can also be seen within the method harder and less likely to prevent. The limited perspective is detrimental in the sense that only that one perspective s views through emotion and feeling are used to describe the situation if there had only been one account. Unless there are multiple viewpoints from different individuals who think and act differently put together to create one image from all different sides, which isn t very practical to do. The narrative method also creates a restricted view in the sense that anything the reader does not know, you don t know. Such as taking into consideration different socio contexts and the individuals thinking spectrums. The narrative account may also be biased, understanding the story through ones eyes, leaves room for events and facts to change based on what the individual thinks, wants, and knows at the

Difference Between EWOM And WOM In the modern marketing world, consumers are classified in many types according to various criteria and characteristics, such as: gender, age, geographic area and individual customer behavior. In general, customer behavior and especially buying behavior represent the most essential element that sellers take into account when planning a marketingstrategy. This paper is divided into four parts. Firstly, a brief overview of WOM and eWOM is demonstrated. Secondly, a detailed review of online consumer reviews (OCRs) literature and how it relates to WOM and eWOM will be discussed. Then, the influence of OCRs on consumers purchase intentions and marketing performance measures, along with the factors that moderate and mediate such effects are addressed. Finally, conclusions are drawn and research streams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, unlike traditional WOM which is transformed by familiar means, such as family and friends (Jeong and Jang, 2011), eWOM is sometimes posted by unidentified individuals and thus could have an impact on its credibility (Park et al., 2007; Park and Lee, 2009). Studies have stated that due to the way that traditional WOM is communicated, it has a far greater impact on product judgment than those of electronic WOM (Mazzarol et al., 2007). Second, Cheung and Lee (2012) argue that since eWOM communication is generally in a written format that can be observed, it is measurable and controllable than traditional WOM. Further, Technological advances have given eWOM higher speed and coverage than traditional WOM (Lee, 2009). Therefore, the potential impact of eWOM on consumers decision making processes can be more powerful than the impact of traditional WOM (Jeong and Jang, 2011). Given such differences, Godes and Mayzlin (2004) highlight that eWOM could prevail over the limitations of traditional

A test group has essentially four main functions: quality control, quality assurance, testing services, and developing services (Kaner, Falk, Nguyen, 2000). The Quality control The quality group wields significant amount of power over a test group for the reason that QC inspectors can easily stop the shipment of the product until all procedures and standards are met, and all designated problems are resolved. According to the IEEE standard 610 [2], quality control refers to a set of activities designed to evaluate the quality of developed or manufactured products (Black, 2013) As such, quality control is a term applied in a hardware manufacturing or hardware environment, in which a large scope of physical items are produced and/or shipped. Each of the produced items has to be taken through a thorough testing process for the purpose of ensuring the quality of product is high enough for ship. Failure to meet high quality standards would result in the rejection of the product or system. Therefore, the quality control group within a manufacturing organization conducts a quality check, under the leadership of a quality controller. Quality control needs need to follow solid item library management that allows for traceability, uniformity predictability which are attained through testing of the design, the developed products, the product relationships, as well as the product system (Farrell Vinay, 2008). The quality controls are crucial in
