Acting
The acting featured in this drama is rendered as professional,
dramatic and high quality. They speak clearly to the lines they are
given and present their vocal fluently and efficiently.
Narration
The narration only appears at the beginning, and it is plain, simple,
and personal in way where it touches the heart of the story, ands
the seriousness of the plot.
Sound Effects
The sound effects are performed by another audio performer, they
use shoes to create the sound of footsteps and chains to create
the sound of Marley’s ghostly chain rattles. The volume of the
sound effects makes it very effective and realistic.
How do the different sound elements work together?
They all work chronologically, and are no louder than the vocals of
the actors. They are all performers at the same volume and work
well together as a group of natural sounds.
How do sound effects add to the drama?
The sound effects add to the drama in a way where they are
performed in a natural tone, in other words, they make natural
sounds from the outside world. This is a mixture of diegetic and
non-diegetic because we the audience can hear and so can the
actors, but for the characters that they are voicing will not hear,
except form the natural noises, the music is what they will not
hear.
What part does music play in the work?
The music plays a non diegetic and diegetic role in which the
audience who are watching the actors live can hear and so can the
actors, but the characters within the podcast will not. The music
only appears at the beginning as an intro to the era in which the
story takes place.

Acting
The acting within this radio drama is well performed, and edited in a way
where you can hear them and the music at the same time. Referring
back to the acting, the acting is performed very fluently and dramatically
that will have you on the edge of your seat.
Narration
The narration throughout the story is constant and only stops for another
vocal to take place such as the characters. This is a key part of the story
because in order to sustain a successful tension, and
character/personality of the plot to stay within the story, they need to
give a break in between their lines in order to sustain that matter.
Sound Effects
The sound effects consisted within this drama are all done by nature,
meaning that they are nature based and artificial through recording
because they were either recored naturally or made with the simple
object for two.
How do the different sound elements work together?
The sound elements all correspond in chronological order and work
together artificially and naturally since the music is composed and the
sound effects would have been natural sounds recorded or used by
another.
How do sound effects add to the drama?
The sound effects are performed in a way where they correspond with
the natural atmosphere created artificially such as the water running and
the muffled chatter cramped all together so that you cant hear any
specific voices.
What part does music play in the work?
The music plays a role in which it gives us an insight of what is going on
within the atmosphere of the story such as the tension rising and the
horror that lies within the legend itself, for the monster that’s said to
haunt the hollow is……the Headless Horseman.
The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
EXISTING PRODUCTS RESEARCH
Acting
The acting of the characters is so high quality and well
performed, all appeared in appropriate chronological order.
Overall, the acting from the actors make it seem like they
are in that scene and not to think it was just in a room with
microphones and sound effect objects.
Narration
The narration only appears at the beginning of the story for
a short time, explaining the depth of the story for those who
don’t understand, and who the story is written by. This is
good because this provers to be context, and dedication for
what the story is all about.
Sound Effects
The sound effect are performed artificially, as always, but
are presented naturally so that they sound like they come
out naturally. This is clever because they would have
altered the sound effects via microphone settings.
How do the different sound elements work together?
The elements in regards to sound consisted within this
composition all run chronologically, and collide to make a
suitable overall sound effect that suits the theme perfectly.
They all correspond appropriately.
How do sound effects add to the drama?
The sound effects add up in a way where it directly links to
the actions of the characters and the atmosphere they are
living in.
What part does music play in the work?
The music plays within the beginning of the story as non-
diegetic and diegetic because the narrator can hear the
music but the characters, who are not heard yet will not
hear not at all.

The Turn Of The Screw
EXISTING PRODUCTS RESEARCH
Acting
The acting in this drama is well performed and not
seems like it is rehearsed before the proper recording,
mostly likely getting the vocals right before the real deal.
Narration
The narration is in first person, meaning that one of the
characters is talking as the main voice, instead of a
vocal completely out of the blue.
Sound Effects
The sound effects within this composition are all taken
Fromm the outside world via recording of found online
royalty free. They all give us an insight of that is going
on in the background while the gentlemen are talking in
the foreground.
How do the different sound elements work
together?
The sound elements all work together in a way where
they correspond together in an orderly fashion where
they sound like parts of the outside world such as birds
tweeting and trains passing come together to make an
overall effect.
How do sound effects add to the drama?
The sound effects come naturally in this composition but
are performed artificially to make it sound like natural
sounds from the outside world. They also make the
drama feel real as if you are there witnessing
everything.
What part does music play in the work?
The music plays as an interval to pass by time as well
as a break in between for the characters to get a grasp
of what is happening. The narrator who is first person
from one of the characters is the only person who can
hear this.

IDEAS/INITIAL PLANS
IDEA GENERATION/INITIAL REACTION: REACTION
What stories could you use?
I am hoping to use some stories that are
popular and from other folk tales such as
Hungarian or Celtic, or mainly children’s ghost
stories like from Thomas and friends. At least it
will be suitable for all ages.
How do you feel about the different
potential formats?
I feel that they are highly useful, and will
probably use the format of soundscape style to
create a ghost story suitable for all ages, children
included.
What are the positives about this
project?
The main positive of this project is that I
will get to experiment more with vocals as well as
getting to redub one of my favourite stories, which
is an exciting opportunity.
What could be some difficult aspects?
From what I can think of, the most difficult I
can think of is the sound effects, this is likely
because when I comes to creating your own sound
effects, it is likely and not likely impossible to find
objects that will create that exact sound for that
object presumed in the audio.

Tale of the three
brothers
Duncan gets
spooked
Me Tie Dough-ty
Walker
I might choose this
story because it’s a
mix between fantasy
and drama, as well as
showing life spans that
only grown ups know
about.
A famous tale from
harry potter and
the Deathly
Hallows. It centres
around three
brothers which are
granted wishes by
Death himself.
This story is the most gruesome I’ve
ever known: the story of a young boy
who’s dog starts talking and then
come face to face with a severed
head.
This story is pretty straight
forward: an engine named
Duncan boast about how he isn't
afraid of ghosts, but when Rusty
tells a story, he reconsiders
otherwise after a payback.
Another reason I might choose
this story is because the life
spans that happen in the story
such as suicide is a warning for
the audience that you
shouldn't’t go down a path that
upset you and ends your life, so
choose the right path. This is a
good message.
This story is mainly a
death based drama
story, and the ’ghost’
part of this is that
Death appears to them
in a reaper form.
The other ‘ghost’
part of the story is
that the third
brother goes with
death at the end to
pass on the life as
equals.
I might choose this
story because it’s
suitable for all
ages, children
especially. Also, it’s
a typical ghost
story.
The story last for a
period of about 5
mins, which is a
good timing
considering this is a
child’s story.
The ’ghost’ part of this story
is basically the legend of
the little engine, who
derailed off the tracks and
into the swamps below, and
that Duncan’s drive plays a
prank on him.
Another reason
why I might
choose this story
is because it’s
pretty basic and
not to complex.
I may choose this story for
adults because most
horror seeks look for a
good story, and I might as
well give it to them.
The ’ghost’ part of the story is obviously
the part where the dog talks and the head
appears, this is both supernatural and
horror which is what most grown ups
adore.
This story is known
for having a
gruesome context,
and maybe horrifying
for young viewers.
I also might
choose this story
because of the
interesting
storyline as well
as the intense
drama within.

STORY
Thomas and Friends: Duncan Gets Spooked
The little engines were busy clearing their railroad of leaves and broken
branches. Peter Sam and Rusty often work together. One day, Rusty Helped
Peter Sam to a water-tower. Peter Sam felt much better after his long drink, but
the freight cars were bored, ‘let's break away!’ Their loads were heavy and the
coupling's old. One snapped. ‘Faster, faster’ shouted the freight cars. A sign
read: Slow Steep Bends and Ravine Ahead. But the silly freight cars never saw
it. Then, it was too late. Peter Sam arrived at the scene of the disaster. His
driver sighed. ‘This was our fault. We didn't secure them properly. We'll have to
get help to pull them out. The Fat Controller will be very annoyed’. And he was.
‘You will work in the yards until I can trust you again’. Duncan was delighted
with Peter Sam's dilemma. ‘Fancy not securing your freight cars on a hill. They'll
come back to spook you and your special funnel. Whoooo!’ ‘And who's to say
you're not afraid of ghosts!’ snapped Rusty. ‘Ghosts!?’ said Duncan. ‘Things that
go bump in the night, Rubbish!’ ‘Well I'll tell you a story that will make your
funnel quiver’. Rusty said. ‘A long time ago, a little engine was returning home.
It was a misty moonlit night. Suddenly the engine lost control and plunged over
the side into the swamps below’. ‘He was never found again. But many of
workmen will tell you that, when the moon is full, they've seen the little engine
trying to get home. But he never reaches the other side. So what do you think of
that, Duncan’ Rubbish!’ replied Duncan. ‘Never mind him, Peter Sam’ said
Rusty. ‘He'd be frightened if he really saw a ghost. This gave Peter Sam's driver
an idea. ‘Let's play a trick on Duncan’. The next day he spoke to Duncan's
driver and fireman who agreed. ‘We'll do it tonight,“ said his driver. Duncan had
to take coal cars to the slate mines and then bring cars back. Duncan's driver
decided as part of the plan to cross the old iron bridge. ‘Haunted bridge,
rubbish!’ snorted Duncan. ‘It's as tame as a pet rabbit's’. But all the same, he
kept thinking about Rusty's story. When dusk fell, he was keen to leave. ‘If we
don't go now, Skarloey will take my favorite place in the sheds’. ‘We have to
collect our cars first’ his driver replied. He could see their plan was working
because Duncan was nervous. When night fell, they set off. The mists were
rising around the old iron bridge. Duncan whistled and the sound echoed
everywhere. Then, ahead he saw flickering lights. His driver knew that they
were only insects that shine brightly at night but to Duncan they looked like an
engine. Next, his driver secretly threw a rock from the cab into the ravine below.
‘It's the ghost! Take me back! Take me back, please!’ screamed Duncan. When
Duncan reached the safety of his shed, he closed his eyes tightly. ‘Spooked are
you, Duncan?’ laughed his driver. ‘Noooo! I'm asleep!’ And Duncan refused to
open his eyes. He did though when he thought his driver wasn't looking just to
make sure that he was still there.

PROPOSAL
Working Title
The name of my ghost story is called Duncan Gets Spooked, which is a Thomas and Friends episode from the model
series.
Audience
My chosen audience for my ghost story will be children aged 3-6 years old, since I used to watch this series since I was a
child. Since Thomas and friends is made for the purpose of entertainment, anyone can watch it. It is gathered that both
genders like Thomas and friends, since there is both masculine and feminine characters within the series. Also I will
provide the vocals for the narration and my friends will proved he voices for most of the engines, which are all male, so
there’s another reason why it’s suitable for both genders. In terms of psychographics, I am aiming towards those of the
achiever group, who are a bit like Duncan in the story, who want to get on with work and think that there are more serious
matters than ghost stories. For social status, this story is for anyone to watch, from working class to upper class, this can
be watched by anyone since it is made by a mixture of all combined. My story will appeal to the age group because this
story is, to children scary a bit, but to adults, not the slightest bit scary, so a story with not much scare is suitable for
children. As for age, this would be more suitable more to boys since all the characters are male, however, the reason girls
may like it too is because I will provide the voice for one of the male characters as well as the narrator in which I am
female, so therefore my version becomes a mixture suitable for both. For psychographics and social status, I would say
that the story would appeal these groups because there are characters in this story who take their work very seriously
and want to be an achiever also the story is open for everyone to watch, working class and all.
Project Concept
The concept of my story is about a little narrow gauge engine names Duncan, who gloats about not believing in ghost,
but when Rusty tells him a ghost story, Duncan is given pause for thought over whether or not to change his mind. The
concept of this story is very simple as well as less spooky since this story is for very young children. Taking this story I am
going to make a radio based drama based on this story, retelling it with voice actors, narration, sound effects and music
to make it feel realistic and scary for young viewers. The research I conducted (analysing real radio stories) helped me to
come up with an overall age rate and concept for any story, after all, I do like doing work revolving around children
because I love kids. It also heckled get a better idea on how to incorporate my sounds to make it run appropriately and
efficiently to make it sound interesting and exciting. The story will hopefully carry a moral, which is ‘never tease or hurt
someone, or face the consequences’, that seems like an appropriate moral because life is full of morals that we all stick
to to maintain a good character.

FOLEY
• Include your work on foley and some writing about what went
well, what could be better and what you have learned.
• You should include a link and a screen shot. Don’t embed your
work, it won’t work. I made this project by first uploading the movie clip to my
downloads, which then allowed me to upload it to iMovie. Next, I
ask my mentor (Karisma) if she could help me create the sound
of someone walking on a plastic floor. So me and Karisma went
to the stairs, in which she walked backwards and forwards in
order to create the sound, and it was successful. Once that was
complete, I then uploaded it via connector and cabler to my
desktop files so it's there where I know it is. With that complete,
it was time to assemble the foley experiment. I first applied the
clip to the storyline and then applied the sound effects provided
by iMovie itself for free. I then uploaded GarageBand, where I
brought up the clip with the additional sound effects, in which I
could record the soundtrack, I used the string ensemble with the
keys of my keypad to create the sound track. I then saved it to
my desktop, ready to upload to Blogger. I could say what went
well was the perfect sound effect I made when the person walks
into the shop, it was the right dynamics as well as volume. I
could have improved by making more of my own sound effects,
however, it wasn’t easy to record my own because the amount
of people, objects and time is limited. I have learned that by
creating more sound effects, meaning more dramatic, exciting
moments.
https://amywatsonblog.blogspot.
com/2019/12/audio-project.html
RECORDING
• Write about your experiences of recording in different places.
• What effect did it have? How will this influence your project?
When recording in different places, it was easy because I needed a sound
that was ideal the the clip given to me, so I created a sound using the
college staircase in order to sustain a successful sound. It had an effect in
a way where the sound lasted for a second or two, a bit like an echo. The
mass sound experienced within recording will have a great effect on my
work because when Rusty tells his story, the wind will echo in the
background.
GARAGE BAND
• Include your work with Garage Band, and some writing about
what went well, what could be better and what you have learned.
• You should include a link and a screen shot. Don’t embed your
work, it won’t work. Using GarageBand, I managed to create
a suitable soundtrack for the background
for extra effect. I could say that what went
all most was the fact that I found a
suitable instrument to make my
soundtrack: the string ensemble. I could
have improved by adding more
instruments within my soundtrack to make
it more dramatic and scary. I also could
have improved by adding more effects to
the recording such as echos and high
pitched moments to make it more
interesting. I have learned that by creating
a soundscape, the clips seems more eye-
catching and gripping with suspension
and tense chords.

• Include your work on foley and some writing about what went

• You should include a link and a screen shot. Don’t embed your
work, it won’t work. To make this nursery rhyme project, I first
needed to download the official karaoke of the
song of YouTube so that I have a backing track.
I then took the liberty to record my vocals in the
recording studio, where it was all quiet and
peaceful. After that was complete, I then
uploaded it to my desktop files, where it was
ready to import into iMovie. I also imported my
soundtrack and also installed sound effects
form the iMovie library to make the audio seem
realistic. I would say that what went well was
the fact that the vocal matches the song to a
perfection and that it runs smoothly on time. I
could have improved by adding more verses to
make it longer and not repeat the same verse
over and over again. I have learned like before
with Shaun of the dead, when you add music
and sound effect, it could become the most

RECORDING
• Write about your experiences of recording in different places.
• What effect did it have? How will this influence your project?
I recorded in the studio,
which meant it was
peaceful and quiet and
easy to record, this was a
good experience.
Working in a quiet place
made it a good effect
because it was quest and
less noisy in the
background. This is work
for my project because I
need a quiet space to
record the vocals son the
only thing you can hear is
the vocals.

PRODUCTION
DAILY REFLECTION DAY 1: GATHERING AND MAKING MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS
To begin my production, I first
needed to save the sound tracks for
the story from Youtube. One by one,
I saved them individually into my files
using a website called Mp3 Youtube,
which allows you to save music and
clips in the form of Mp3 files. I did
the same with the sound effects.
After that, I wanted to create a form
of my own soundtrack for when the
truck are going downhill. So I knew
the only way to achieve that outcome
was to create the small piece on
GarageBand. As the main
instrument, I used the Grand Organ
to create that sly atmosphere
dedicated to the troublesome trucks.
Once the music was composed and
complete, I saved it via disk to my
files, ready to upload to iMovie along
with the rest of the production.
DAILY REFLECTION DAY 2: RECORDING
With the soundtracks taken care
of, it was time to record the vocals
for my podcast. So myself and my
friends Harry, Dan and Kai went to
the recording studio of the college
with our tutor Scott’s permission.
To record the vocals, we used a
voice recorder which was easy to
control. Actor by actor, we
recorded the vocal lines for the
characters of the podcast.
Once that was complete, I used a
connector and USB importer to
import the vocals into my laptop
and into my format. Overall, I found
this part of the production so far
the best because I got too work
with my friends instead of having
just myself as the vocals because I
needed other vocals beside myself
to make it interesting.
DAILY REFLECTION DAY 3: ASSEMBLING THE PIECES
With both vocals and soundtracks now
in place, it was time to assemble the
puzzle together. I started out by getting
a picture from the internet for the
foreground of the video because I want
to making it more appealing. After that,
I added my vocals first as the narrator
who tells the story because that would
appear most in foreground. I also
provided the voices of the trucks, Peter
Sam and Duncan’s Drivers and the
spooky little engine and his ghost. I
added those parts along with my
friends vocal in the part of the
foreground but still made sure the
narration was closest to the
foreground. After the vocals were
added, I then added the soundtracks
and sound effects at the right moments
of the podcast to make it all exciting
and interesting. I also added some of
iMovie’s jingles and slowed them down
to make them more dramatic and fitting
to the supposed atmosphere of the
story. Overall, I found this part very
easy and I was chuffed with how it all
came together. I went according to
plan. Finally, I added an intro and outro
to make it all fitting.
DAILY REFLECTION DAY 4: UPLOADING
TO YOUTUBE AND BLOGGER
Finally, it was time to add the
podcast to my blog, but the only
way the do that due to megabits
size is to upload it to YouTube first.
With the new law saying that your
videos are made for kids or not,
mine can easily say that it is a kid
made and friendly video. Once I
uploaded it to my YouTube
channel, I then embedded the link
from the video’s encoding centre,
and pasted it into my blog’s HTML,
which made the video available to
watch even from the Blogger site.
Once that was complete, I started
to type up my daily reflectioN.
Overall, I am proud of how the
production process turned out,
everything went according to plan
and stuck to the objectives.
EVALUATION
RESEARCH• What were the strengths of your research?
I would say the main strength from this research would be the fact that
I gathered reliable and useful sources that are suitable for my age
group, which is the children age of 3-6 years. These forms of resources
were very helpful when I came to planning for the podcast. Another
strength would also be the fact that the dramas had elements within
that make up the interesting part of the story, and those elements
helped me to make the existing Thomas and friends episode in my
version more interesting and gripping.
• How did your research help your product?
The research helped my product in a way where it provided me with
enough information and elements from existing products and
incorporating them into a brainstorm, which was to be used within my
production along the way.
• What were the weaknesses of your research?
The main weakness I can account within my work was when I was
finding the right soundtracks for the podcast. At first I had it all planned
out but in the end I had to tweak the plans in order to make it a
successful outcome. Another weakness I could think of was trying to
point out the hidden elements that directors seem to incorporate
within the dramas to make them more interesting such as the elements
of diegetic and non diegetic.
• What could you have done better/improve?
I could improve by adding more about how the existing products could
influence my own work and how the audience would benefit from that.
Also I could improve by exploring more options and either existing
products that moulds give me more inspirations.
• What effect would this have had on your product?
The research would provide a great impact on my work because it
would allow me to draw inspirations and ideas from existing products
from which they all have in common, and import that into my own
idea.
PLANNING
• What were the strengths of your planning?
I would say the strengths of my planning was time I was
able to think about how the audience would benefit from
my podcast in many ways and why they would like.
Another strength I could think of is when I was able to
come up with the many reasons of why I wanted to to do
the following idea and why it would prove to be a good
entertainment for the audience.
• How did your planning help your product?
My planning helped my work in a way where it helped me
to prepare and explore the potential outcomes and what
to include within my podcast such as good vocals and how
the audience will like it.
• What were the weaknesses of your planning?
I would say the main weakness I could point out was the
fact of trying to point out the potential secret elements
within that make up a good professional podcast and how
the audience will like it so much. Another weakness was
trying to come up with alternative stories suitable for
children, but thankfully, I managed to come up with some.
• What could you have done better/improve?
I could have improved my planning by adding more about
how the audience would benefit from the podcast,
especially children b because I hope this podcast sends out
an episode to those who are similar to Duncan.
• What effect would this have had on your product?
The planning had an effect on my work in a way where it
was a backup call, in other words, if I were to loose my
idea due to complications, I could reference to another
idea and use that as a backup.
TIME MANAGEMENT
•Did you manage your time well?
Yes, I did manage my time well because I
got on with my work without fuss and
managed to complete everything before
the deadline. Despite there was a lot of
vocals, sound effects and soundtracks to
add together, I managed to complete all on
time.
•Did you complete your project on time or
would your products have improved with
additional time?
I completed all my work on time despite lots
of vocals, sound effects and soundtracks to
track down. I don’t think I needed
additional time for my work because I am
pretty satisfied with what I’ve done.
•What would you have done if you had
more time to produce your work?
If I did have extra time for my work, would
have added more sound effects to make it
more interesting and appealing,
TECHNICAL QUALITIES
My Podcast A Christmas Carol
Similarities: They both are kid friendly and entail ghosts similar to each other since
the characters of the ghost both met their fates such as the little engine and Marley’s
ghost. They both include ghost for references that are used to teach the protagonist a
lesson.
Differences: this only features a single ghost, whilst A Christmas Carol features more
than one ghost. Also, my use and volume of sound effects is not as detailed as the
existing product.
Is your work technically detailed/complicated enough?
I wouldn’t say it’s very detailed, but I did try my best and provided as much detail as
possible to make it interesting enough, I wouldn’t also said it sound complicated but
like I said before, I tried. I could’ve have added more sound effects and foley to make
it more appealing.
What effects and techniques have you used?
I used the techniques such as foley sound effects and pitch levels to make some of
the sound seem different from their first recorded and tried to m are them seem what
the characters may sound within the models series since the narrator does all the
talking.
How did you create your effects?
I didn’t necessarily make any sounds, I borrowed them from my iMovie format.
How did you record your audio?
I used a voice recorder to record the vocals of myself and my friends in a college quiet
studio where the outside noise is isolated from the outside of the walls, in other words,
no outside noise.
Did you use any foley methods?
I used the sound effects from the foley section of iMovie to provide sound effects and
music to the podcast for effect.
Similarities: They both are kid friendly
and entail ghosts similar to each other
since the characters of the ghost both
met their fates such as the little engine
and Marley’s ghost. They both include
ghosts or references that are use to
teach the protagonist a lesson.
Differences: A Christmas Carol features
more than one ghost, which makes it a
more personal ghost story than my
podcast choice. Also, this podcast
features more detailed foley sound
effects.
AURAL QUALITIES
Does your work sound good?
I personally think my work sounds good in way where
children will appreciate it. I also think that this podcast
turned out what I expected and all went according to
plan, expect some alterations.
Was it creative?
To be honest, I personally think that met
work was creative enough, to begin with,
I wanted to dedicate my podcast to
children, especially to my cute little
cousin Rory, who fits in my age range. I’m
kept thinking of him and thought, why
not dedicate a podcast to children in his
age range, which is 3 and above to 6.
Strengths
I personally think
the biggest strength
would be that my
friends provided the
best vocals I could
ask for and that
they link to the
characters well, that
is for those who
have watched the
episode.
Weaknesses
I could say the
biggest weakness
was trying to adjust
the volume of the
vocals clips to
make them sound
good to hear.
What aspects of your audio do you like?
The best aspects that I like about my podcast is
my friend’s contributions, their vocals were
fitting to the characters and I think I chose the
right people for the job. I also like how the music
plays out in the right timing and how it adds that
drama and exciting, tingling feeling that ends
shivers down your spine, kit may not be that
scary to adults, but it could be for children.
What would you improve?
I could have improved by
adding more sound effects so
that it makes the
atmosphere of the audio
seem realistic to the
atmosphere of the audience,
making them feel like they
are part of the story.
How would you
improve it?
I would improve it by
gathering m ore sound
effects form the outside
world so it sounds more
natural and artificial.
AUDIENCE APPEAL
•How have you appealed to your
target audience?
I have appealed my target audience by
simply directing around a popular
children’s cartoon series: Thomas &
Friends, so this podcast is highly
dedicated to children. Also, I’m sure
that the children will appreciate the
sound effects and how funny the
vocals are, that’s also how I appealed
them.
•What specific bits of content would
appeal to your target audience.
I believe that the vocals and the ghost
story by Rusty would appeal the
children because it is said that nearly
all children would love to listen to a
good story, and Rusty’s story is
certainly gripping.

Audio pro forma

  • 3. EXISTING PRODUCTS RESEARCH A Christmas Carol https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=5hbezkEHmfs Acting The acting featured in this drama is rendered as professional, dramatic and high quality. They speak clearly to the lines they are given and present their vocal fluently and efficiently. Narration The narration only appears at the beginning, and it is plain, simple, and personal in way where it touches the heart of the story, ands the seriousness of the plot. Sound Effects The sound effects are performed by another audio performer, they use shoes to create the sound of footsteps and chains to create the sound of Marley’s ghostly chain rattles. The volume of the sound effects makes it very effective and realistic. How do the different sound elements work together? They all work chronologically, and are no louder than the vocals of the actors. They are all performers at the same volume and work well together as a group of natural sounds. How do sound effects add to the drama? The sound effects add to the drama in a way where they are performed in a natural tone, in other words, they make natural sounds from the outside world. This is a mixture of diegetic and non-diegetic because we the audience can hear and so can the actors, but for the characters that they are voicing will not hear, except form the natural noises, the music is what they will not hear. What part does music play in the work? The music plays a non diegetic and diegetic role in which the audience who are watching the actors live can hear and so can the actors, but the characters within the podcast will not. The music only appears at the beginning as an intro to the era in which the story takes place.
  • 4. EXISTING PRODUCTS RESEARCH https://www.youtube.com/w atch?v=kQtoiB-Xn9I Acting The acting within this radio drama is well performed, and edited in a way where you can hear them and the music at the same time. Referring back to the acting, the acting is performed very fluently and dramatically that will have you on the edge of your seat. Narration The narration throughout the story is constant and only stops for another vocal to take place such as the characters. This is a key part of the story because in order to sustain a successful tension, and character/personality of the plot to stay within the story, they need to give a break in between their lines in order to sustain that matter. Sound Effects The sound effects consisted within this drama are all done by nature, meaning that they are nature based and artificial through recording because they were either recored naturally or made with the simple object for two. How do the different sound elements work together? The sound elements all correspond in chronological order and work together artificially and naturally since the music is composed and the sound effects would have been natural sounds recorded or used by another. How do sound effects add to the drama? The sound effects are performed in a way where they correspond with the natural atmosphere created artificially such as the water running and the muffled chatter cramped all together so that you cant hear any specific voices. What part does music play in the work? The music plays a role in which it gives us an insight of what is going on within the atmosphere of the story such as the tension rising and the horror that lies within the legend itself, for the monster that’s said to haunt the hollow is……the Headless Horseman. The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow
  • 5. EXISTING PRODUCTS RESEARCH Acting The acting of the characters is so high quality and well performed, all appeared in appropriate chronological order. Overall, the acting from the actors make it seem like they are in that scene and not to think it was just in a room with microphones and sound effect objects. Narration The narration only appears at the beginning of the story for a short time, explaining the depth of the story for those who don’t understand, and who the story is written by. This is good because this provers to be context, and dedication for what the story is all about. Sound Effects The sound effect are performed artificially, as always, but are presented naturally so that they sound like they come out naturally. This is clever because they would have altered the sound effects via microphone settings. How do the different sound elements work together? The elements in regards to sound consisted within this composition all run chronologically, and collide to make a suitable overall sound effect that suits the theme perfectly. They all correspond appropriately. How do sound effects add to the drama? The sound effects add up in a way where it directly links to the actions of the characters and the atmosphere they are living in. What part does music play in the work? The music plays within the beginning of the story as non- diegetic and diegetic because the narrator can hear the music but the characters, who are not heard yet will not hear not at all. https://www.youtube.com/wat ch?v=NJC2K1ViFPU The Turn Of The Screw
  • 6. EXISTING PRODUCTS RESEARCH Acting The acting in this drama is well performed and not seems like it is rehearsed before the proper recording, mostly likely getting the vocals right before the real deal. Narration The narration is in first person, meaning that one of the characters is talking as the main voice, instead of a vocal completely out of the blue. Sound Effects The sound effects within this composition are all taken Fromm the outside world via recording of found online royalty free. They all give us an insight of that is going on in the background while the gentlemen are talking in the foreground. How do the different sound elements work together? The sound elements all work together in a way where they correspond together in an orderly fashion where they sound like parts of the outside world such as birds tweeting and trains passing come together to make an overall effect. How do sound effects add to the drama? The sound effects come naturally in this composition but are performed artificially to make it sound like natural sounds from the outside world. They also make the drama feel real as if you are there witnessing everything. What part does music play in the work? The music plays as an interval to pass by time as well as a break in between for the characters to get a grasp of what is happening. The narrator who is first person from one of the characters is the only person who can hear this. https://www.youtube.com/w atch?v=IUehCWNVgkA The Signal-Man
  • 7. HOW WILL THESE EXISTING PRODUCTS INFLUENCE MY OWN PODCAST? ‘I believe that these existing products will influence my work in a way where the existing elements that they all have in common within play as an inspiration and idea generation for the audience age range I have chosen’.

  • 10. IDEA GENERATION/INITIAL REACTION: REACTION What stories could you use? I am hoping to use some stories that are popular and from other folk tales such as Hungarian or Celtic, or mainly children’s ghost stories like from Thomas and friends. At least it will be suitable for all ages. How do you feel about the different potential formats? I feel that they are highly useful, and will probably use the format of soundscape style to create a ghost story suitable for all ages, children included. What are the positives about this project? The main positive of this project is that I will get to experiment more with vocals as well as getting to redub one of my favourite stories, which is an exciting opportunity. What could be some difficult aspects? From what I can think of, the most difficult I can think of is the sound effects, this is likely because when I comes to creating your own sound effects, it is likely and not likely impossible to find objects that will create that exact sound for that object presumed in the audio.
  • 11. IDEA GENERATION/INITIAL REACTION: POTENTIAL STORIES Potential Ghost stories Tale of the three brothers Duncan gets spooked Me Tie Dough-ty Walker I might choose this story because it’s a mix between fantasy and drama, as well as showing life spans that only grown ups know about. A famous tale from harry potter and the Deathly Hallows. It centres around three brothers which are granted wishes by Death himself. This story is the most gruesome I’ve ever known: the story of a young boy who’s dog starts talking and then come face to face with a severed head. This story is pretty straight forward: an engine named Duncan boast about how he isn't afraid of ghosts, but when Rusty tells a story, he reconsiders otherwise after a payback. Another reason I might choose this story is because the life spans that happen in the story such as suicide is a warning for the audience that you shouldn't’t go down a path that upset you and ends your life, so choose the right path. This is a good message. This story is mainly a death based drama story, and the ’ghost’ part of this is that Death appears to them in a reaper form. The other ‘ghost’ part of the story is that the third brother goes with death at the end to pass on the life as equals. I might choose this story because it’s suitable for all ages, children especially. Also, it’s a typical ghost story. The story last for a period of about 5 mins, which is a good timing considering this is a child’s story. The ’ghost’ part of this story is basically the legend of the little engine, who derailed off the tracks and into the swamps below, and that Duncan’s drive plays a prank on him. Another reason why I might choose this story is because it’s pretty basic and not to complex. I may choose this story for adults because most horror seeks look for a good story, and I might as well give it to them. The ’ghost’ part of the story is obviously the part where the dog talks and the head appears, this is both supernatural and horror which is what most grown ups adore. This story is known for having a gruesome context, and maybe horrifying for young viewers. I also might choose this story because of the interesting storyline as well as the intense drama within.
  • 12. IDEA GENERATION/INITIAL REACTION: DUNCAN GETS SPOOKED Duncan Gets Spooked Vocals Music Audience Appeal Sound effects I will ask my friends Harry, Dan and kai if they could voice Duncan, Peter Sam, Rusty and the drivers. I will provide the voices of the narrator, freight cars and the little engine. I will edit at least one of the vocals to make it sound spooky and scary. I will make sure that the vocals run in chronological order. I will use the official Duncan Gets Spooked theme for Rusty’s story. I will also conduct my own track for the rest of the story such as the beginning and the aftermath of the story. I will use Garageband to conduct my own track. The majority of the story will be covered by it’s official theme. I will make sure that this story appeals my audience, which is 3-6 year olds. I will do this by making sure it is not too scary, but still has that element of spook still inside, however, it will be mostly for entertainment. I will make sure the vocals for when Duncan gets scared will have a funny ring to it. The main part of the appealing is to make sure that they are entertained as well as enjoyable all the same. I will download the official whistles mp3s for the engines of the official wiki. I will store all my sound effects into my desktop file so I know where they are. I will incorporate and edit the lengths and volumes of the effects to make them viable to hear and make sense. I will use some sound effects from the internet (YouTube)
  • 13. STORY Thomas and Friends: Duncan Gets Spooked The little engines were busy clearing their railroad of leaves and broken branches. Peter Sam and Rusty often work together. One day, Rusty Helped Peter Sam to a water-tower. Peter Sam felt much better after his long drink, but the freight cars were bored, ‘let's break away!’ Their loads were heavy and the coupling's old. One snapped. ‘Faster, faster’ shouted the freight cars. A sign read: Slow Steep Bends and Ravine Ahead. But the silly freight cars never saw it. Then, it was too late. Peter Sam arrived at the scene of the disaster. His driver sighed. ‘This was our fault. We didn't secure them properly. We'll have to get help to pull them out. The Fat Controller will be very annoyed’. And he was. ‘You will work in the yards until I can trust you again’. Duncan was delighted with Peter Sam's dilemma. ‘Fancy not securing your freight cars on a hill. They'll come back to spook you and your special funnel. Whoooo!’ ‘And who's to say you're not afraid of ghosts!’ snapped Rusty. ‘Ghosts!?’ said Duncan. ‘Things that go bump in the night, Rubbish!’ ‘Well I'll tell you a story that will make your funnel quiver’. Rusty said. ‘A long time ago, a little engine was returning home. It was a misty moonlit night. Suddenly the engine lost control and plunged over the side into the swamps below’. ‘He was never found again. But many of workmen will tell you that, when the moon is full, they've seen the little engine trying to get home. But he never reaches the other side. So what do you think of that, Duncan’ Rubbish!’ replied Duncan. ‘Never mind him, Peter Sam’ said Rusty. ‘He'd be frightened if he really saw a ghost. This gave Peter Sam's driver an idea. ‘Let's play a trick on Duncan’. The next day he spoke to Duncan's driver and fireman who agreed. ‘We'll do it tonight,“ said his driver. Duncan had to take coal cars to the slate mines and then bring cars back. Duncan's driver decided as part of the plan to cross the old iron bridge. ‘Haunted bridge, rubbish!’ snorted Duncan. ‘It's as tame as a pet rabbit's’. But all the same, he kept thinking about Rusty's story. When dusk fell, he was keen to leave. ‘If we don't go now, Skarloey will take my favorite place in the sheds’. ‘We have to collect our cars first’ his driver replied. He could see their plan was working because Duncan was nervous. When night fell, they set off. The mists were rising around the old iron bridge. Duncan whistled and the sound echoed everywhere. Then, ahead he saw flickering lights. His driver knew that they were only insects that shine brightly at night but to Duncan they looked like an engine. Next, his driver secretly threw a rock from the cab into the ravine below. ‘It's the ghost! Take me back! Take me back, please!’ screamed Duncan. When Duncan reached the safety of his shed, he closed his eyes tightly. ‘Spooked are you, Duncan?’ laughed his driver. ‘Noooo! I'm asleep!’ And Duncan refused to open his eyes. He did though when he thought his driver wasn't looking just to make sure that he was still there.
  • 15. PROPOSAL: REQUIREMENTS Working Title: What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later Audience: Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section. Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the gender? Etc.) Project Concept (approx. 200 words) What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make? What did you learning during research that will help you?
  • 16. PROPOSAL Working Title The name of my ghost story is called Duncan Gets Spooked, which is a Thomas and Friends episode from the model series. Audience My chosen audience for my ghost story will be children aged 3-6 years old, since I used to watch this series since I was a child. Since Thomas and friends is made for the purpose of entertainment, anyone can watch it. It is gathered that both genders like Thomas and friends, since there is both masculine and feminine characters within the series. Also I will provide the vocals for the narration and my friends will proved he voices for most of the engines, which are all male, so there’s another reason why it’s suitable for both genders. In terms of psychographics, I am aiming towards those of the achiever group, who are a bit like Duncan in the story, who want to get on with work and think that there are more serious matters than ghost stories. For social status, this story is for anyone to watch, from working class to upper class, this can be watched by anyone since it is made by a mixture of all combined. My story will appeal to the age group because this story is, to children scary a bit, but to adults, not the slightest bit scary, so a story with not much scare is suitable for children. As for age, this would be more suitable more to boys since all the characters are male, however, the reason girls may like it too is because I will provide the voice for one of the male characters as well as the narrator in which I am female, so therefore my version becomes a mixture suitable for both. For psychographics and social status, I would say that the story would appeal these groups because there are characters in this story who take their work very seriously and want to be an achiever also the story is open for everyone to watch, working class and all. Project Concept The concept of my story is about a little narrow gauge engine names Duncan, who gloats about not believing in ghost, but when Rusty tells him a ghost story, Duncan is given pause for thought over whether or not to change his mind. The concept of this story is very simple as well as less spooky since this story is for very young children. Taking this story I am going to make a radio based drama based on this story, retelling it with voice actors, narration, sound effects and music to make it feel realistic and scary for young viewers. The research I conducted (analysing real radio stories) helped me to come up with an overall age rate and concept for any story, after all, I do like doing work revolving around children because I love kids. It also heckled get a better idea on how to incorporate my sounds to make it run appropriately and efficiently to make it sound interesting and exciting. The story will hopefully carry a moral, which is ‘never tease or hurt someone, or face the consequences’, that seems like an appropriate moral because life is full of morals that we all stick to to maintain a good character.
  • 18. LIST OF FOLEY SOUND EFFECTS •Footsteps •Door and lid opening and closing •Trip over curve •Skid •Shop music •Can removed from fridge •Running •Gate opening •Gate Closing •Background music (GarageBand)
  • 19. FOLEY • Include your work on foley and some writing about what went well, what could be better and what you have learned. • You should include a link and a screen shot. Don’t embed your work, it won’t work. I made this project by first uploading the movie clip to my downloads, which then allowed me to upload it to iMovie. Next, I ask my mentor (Karisma) if she could help me create the sound of someone walking on a plastic floor. So me and Karisma went to the stairs, in which she walked backwards and forwards in order to create the sound, and it was successful. Once that was complete, I then uploaded it via connector and cabler to my desktop files so it's there where I know it is. With that complete, it was time to assemble the foley experiment. I first applied the clip to the storyline and then applied the sound effects provided by iMovie itself for free. I then uploaded GarageBand, where I brought up the clip with the additional sound effects, in which I could record the soundtrack, I used the string ensemble with the keys of my keypad to create the sound track. I then saved it to my desktop, ready to upload to Blogger. I could say what went well was the perfect sound effect I made when the person walks into the shop, it was the right dynamics as well as volume. I could have improved by making more of my own sound effects, however, it wasn’t easy to record my own because the amount of people, objects and time is limited. I have learned that by creating more sound effects, meaning more dramatic, exciting moments. https://amywatsonblog.blogspot. com/2019/12/audio-project.html
  • 20. RECORDING • Write about your experiences of recording in different places. • What effect did it have? How will this influence your project? When recording in different places, it was easy because I needed a sound that was ideal the the clip given to me, so I created a sound using the college staircase in order to sustain a successful sound. It had an effect in a way where the sound lasted for a second or two, a bit like an echo. The mass sound experienced within recording will have a great effect on my work because when Rusty tells his story, the wind will echo in the background.
  • 21. GARAGE BAND • Include your work with Garage Band, and some writing about what went well, what could be better and what you have learned. • You should include a link and a screen shot. Don’t embed your work, it won’t work. Using GarageBand, I managed to create a suitable soundtrack for the background for extra effect. I could say that what went all most was the fact that I found a suitable instrument to make my soundtrack: the string ensemble. I could have improved by adding more instruments within my soundtrack to make it more dramatic and scary. I also could have improved by adding more effects to the recording such as echos and high pitched moments to make it more interesting. I have learned that by creating a soundscape, the clips seems more eye- catching and gripping with suspension and tense chords.
  • 23. LIST OF SOUND EFFECTS •Mouse giggle •Clock chime •Fall down •Background Music
  • 24. FOLEY • Include your work on foley and some writing about what went well, what could be better and what you have learned. • You should include a link and a screen shot. Don’t embed your work, it won’t work. To make this nursery rhyme project, I first needed to download the official karaoke of the song of YouTube so that I have a backing track. I then took the liberty to record my vocals in the recording studio, where it was all quiet and peaceful. After that was complete, I then uploaded it to my desktop files, where it was ready to import into iMovie. I also imported my soundtrack and also installed sound effects form the iMovie library to make the audio seem realistic. I would say that what went well was the fact that the vocal matches the song to a perfection and that it runs smoothly on time. I could have improved by adding more verses to make it longer and not repeat the same verse over and over again. I have learned like before with Shaun of the dead, when you add music and sound effect, it could become the most https://amywatsonblog.blogspot.com/ 2019/12/audio-project.html
  • 25. RECORDING • Write about your experiences of recording in different places. • What effect did it have? How will this influence your project? I recorded in the studio, which meant it was peaceful and quiet and easy to record, this was a good experience. Working in a quiet place made it a good effect because it was quest and less noisy in the background. This is work for my project because I need a quiet space to record the vocals son the only thing you can hear is the vocals.

Narrator: When Duncan reached the safety of his shed, he closed his eyes tightly. Duncan’s Fireman: Spooked are you, Duncan? Narrator: Laughed his driver. Duncan: Noooo! I'm asleep!

  • 37. DAILY REFLECTION DAY 1: GATHERING AND MAKING MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS To begin my production, I first needed to save the sound tracks for the story from Youtube. One by one, I saved them individually into my files using a website called Mp3 Youtube, which allows you to save music and clips in the form of Mp3 files. I did the same with the sound effects. After that, I wanted to create a form of my own soundtrack for when the truck are going downhill. So I knew the only way to achieve that outcome was to create the small piece on GarageBand. As the main instrument, I used the Grand Organ to create that sly atmosphere dedicated to the troublesome trucks. Once the music was composed and complete, I saved it via disk to my files, ready to upload to iMovie along with the rest of the production.
  • 38. DAILY REFLECTION DAY 2: RECORDING With the soundtracks taken care of, it was time to record the vocals for my podcast. So myself and my friends Harry, Dan and Kai went to the recording studio of the college with our tutor Scott’s permission. To record the vocals, we used a voice recorder which was easy to control. Actor by actor, we recorded the vocal lines for the characters of the podcast. Once that was complete, I used a connector and USB importer to import the vocals into my laptop and into my format. Overall, I found this part of the production so far the best because I got too work with my friends instead of having just myself as the vocals because I needed other vocals beside myself to make it interesting.
  • 39. DAILY REFLECTION DAY 3: ASSEMBLING THE PIECES With both vocals and soundtracks now in place, it was time to assemble the puzzle together. I started out by getting a picture from the internet for the foreground of the video because I want to making it more appealing. After that, I added my vocals first as the narrator who tells the story because that would appear most in foreground. I also provided the voices of the trucks, Peter Sam and Duncan’s Drivers and the spooky little engine and his ghost. I added those parts along with my friends vocal in the part of the foreground but still made sure the narration was closest to the foreground. After the vocals were added, I then added the soundtracks and sound effects at the right moments of the podcast to make it all exciting and interesting. I also added some of iMovie’s jingles and slowed them down to make them more dramatic and fitting to the supposed atmosphere of the story. Overall, I found this part very easy and I was chuffed with how it all came together. I went according to plan. Finally, I added an intro and outro to make it all fitting.
  • 40. DAILY REFLECTION DAY 4: UPLOADING TO YOUTUBE AND BLOGGER Finally, it was time to add the podcast to my blog, but the only way the do that due to megabits size is to upload it to YouTube first. With the new law saying that your videos are made for kids or not, mine can easily say that it is a kid made and friendly video. Once I uploaded it to my YouTube channel, I then embedded the link from the video’s encoding centre, and pasted it into my blog’s HTML, which made the video available to watch even from the Blogger site. Once that was complete, I started to type up my daily reflectioN. Overall, I am proud of how the production process turned out, everything went according to plan and stuck to the objectives.
  • 42. RESEARCH• What were the strengths of your research? I would say the main strength from this research would be the fact that I gathered reliable and useful sources that are suitable for my age group, which is the children age of 3-6 years. These forms of resources were very helpful when I came to planning for the podcast. Another strength would also be the fact that the dramas had elements within that make up the interesting part of the story, and those elements helped me to make the existing Thomas and friends episode in my version more interesting and gripping. • How did your research help your product? The research helped my product in a way where it provided me with enough information and elements from existing products and incorporating them into a brainstorm, which was to be used within my production along the way. • What were the weaknesses of your research? The main weakness I can account within my work was when I was finding the right soundtracks for the podcast. At first I had it all planned out but in the end I had to tweak the plans in order to make it a successful outcome. Another weakness I could think of was trying to point out the hidden elements that directors seem to incorporate within the dramas to make them more interesting such as the elements of diegetic and non diegetic. • What could you have done better/improve? I could improve by adding more about how the existing products could influence my own work and how the audience would benefit from that. Also I could improve by exploring more options and either existing products that moulds give me more inspirations. • What effect would this have had on your product? The research would provide a great impact on my work because it would allow me to draw inspirations and ideas from existing products from which they all have in common, and import that into my own idea.
  • 43. PLANNING • What were the strengths of your planning? I would say the strengths of my planning was time I was able to think about how the audience would benefit from my podcast in many ways and why they would like. Another strength I could think of is when I was able to come up with the many reasons of why I wanted to to do the following idea and why it would prove to be a good entertainment for the audience. • How did your planning help your product? My planning helped my work in a way where it helped me to prepare and explore the potential outcomes and what to include within my podcast such as good vocals and how the audience will like it. • What were the weaknesses of your planning? I would say the main weakness I could point out was the fact of trying to point out the potential secret elements within that make up a good professional podcast and how the audience will like it so much. Another weakness was trying to come up with alternative stories suitable for children, but thankfully, I managed to come up with some. • What could you have done better/improve? I could have improved my planning by adding more about how the audience would benefit from the podcast, especially children b because I hope this podcast sends out an episode to those who are similar to Duncan. • What effect would this have had on your product? The planning had an effect on my work in a way where it was a backup call, in other words, if I were to loose my idea due to complications, I could reference to another idea and use that as a backup.
  • 44. TIME MANAGEMENT •Did you manage your time well? Yes, I did manage my time well because I got on with my work without fuss and managed to complete everything before the deadline. Despite there was a lot of vocals, sound effects and soundtracks to add together, I managed to complete all on time. •Did you complete your project on time or would your products have improved with additional time? I completed all my work on time despite lots of vocals, sound effects and soundtracks to track down. I don’t think I needed additional time for my work because I am pretty satisfied with what I’ve done. •What would you have done if you had more time to produce your work? If I did have extra time for my work, would have added more sound effects to make it more interesting and appealing,
  • 45. TECHNICAL QUALITIES My Podcast A Christmas Carol Similarities: They both are kid friendly and entail ghosts similar to each other since the characters of the ghost both met their fates such as the little engine and Marley’s ghost. They both include ghost for references that are used to teach the protagonist a lesson. Differences: this only features a single ghost, whilst A Christmas Carol features more than one ghost. Also, my use and volume of sound effects is not as detailed as the existing product. Is your work technically detailed/complicated enough? I wouldn’t say it’s very detailed, but I did try my best and provided as much detail as possible to make it interesting enough, I wouldn’t also said it sound complicated but like I said before, I tried. I could’ve have added more sound effects and foley to make it more appealing. What effects and techniques have you used? I used the techniques such as foley sound effects and pitch levels to make some of the sound seem different from their first recorded and tried to m are them seem what the characters may sound within the models series since the narrator does all the talking. How did you create your effects? I didn’t necessarily make any sounds, I borrowed them from my iMovie format. How did you record your audio? I used a voice recorder to record the vocals of myself and my friends in a college quiet studio where the outside noise is isolated from the outside of the walls, in other words, no outside noise. Did you use any foley methods? I used the sound effects from the foley section of iMovie to provide sound effects and music to the podcast for effect. Similarities: They both are kid friendly and entail ghosts similar to each other since the characters of the ghost both met their fates such as the little engine and Marley’s ghost. They both include ghosts or references that are use to teach the protagonist a lesson. Differences: A Christmas Carol features more than one ghost, which makes it a more personal ghost story than my podcast choice. Also, this podcast features more detailed foley sound effects.
  • 46. AURAL QUALITIES Does your work sound good? I personally think my work sounds good in way where children will appreciate it. I also think that this podcast turned out what I expected and all went according to plan, expect some alterations. Was it creative? To be honest, I personally think that met work was creative enough, to begin with, I wanted to dedicate my podcast to children, especially to my cute little cousin Rory, who fits in my age range. I’m kept thinking of him and thought, why not dedicate a podcast to children in his age range, which is 3 and above to 6. Strengths I personally think the biggest strength would be that my friends provided the best vocals I could ask for and that they link to the characters well, that is for those who have watched the episode. Weaknesses I could say the biggest weakness was trying to adjust the volume of the vocals clips to make them sound good to hear. What aspects of your audio do you like? The best aspects that I like about my podcast is my friend’s contributions, their vocals were fitting to the characters and I think I chose the right people for the job. I also like how the music plays out in the right timing and how it adds that drama and exciting, tingling feeling that ends shivers down your spine, kit may not be that scary to adults, but it could be for children. What would you improve? I could have improved by adding more sound effects so that it makes the atmosphere of the audio seem realistic to the atmosphere of the audience, making them feel like they are part of the story. How would you improve it? I would improve it by gathering m ore sound effects form the outside world so it sounds more natural and artificial.
  • 47. AUDIENCE APPEAL •How have you appealed to your target audience? I have appealed my target audience by simply directing around a popular children’s cartoon series: Thomas & Friends, so this podcast is highly dedicated to children. Also, I’m sure that the children will appreciate the sound effects and how funny the vocals are, that’s also how I appealed them. •What specific bits of content would appeal to your target audience. I believe that the vocals and the ghost story by Rusty would appeal the children because it is said that nearly all children would love to listen to a good story, and Rusty’s story is certainly gripping.
