Oliver Ingham experimented with different audio recording and editing software to create podcasts. Originally planning to use Audacity, he discovered it could not record audio from his PC. He then tried OBS for recording but the audio was robotic. After adjusting settings, OBS produced clear recordings. However, he found he could further improve audio quality using Adobe Audition filters. He tested various filters and settings. The "Clean Up" filter produced the crispest audio after tweaking levels and settings like the "DeNoise" option. This filter eliminated background noise best. Ingham concluded the edited "Clean Up" filter produced the highest quality audio for his podcasts.
2. Audacity
• My original plan was to use audacity to record my audio for the
podcast due to the software being free and simple to use. Although,
due to me not being able to have a microphone in my PC, it will not
record any audio from my PC. This is a major problem as it was my
number 1 option and I did not think of any other options as to how to
record the audio for my podcast. I will now have to search and find a
new method of recording audio.
3. OBS
• At first, I tried to record my audio when using OBS but for some
reason, when reviewing the audio, it was robotic and did not sound
good or clear enough for it to just be ignored. This was a problem as I
was struggling to think of other ways in which I could record my
audio, as stated in my “Finding ways of recording” PowerPoint. But
after working with OBS’ settings, I finally made it work properly and
sound well. I even used 2 recording settings in OBS, in my 2nd
recording to see which was better. I will be using OBS to record my
podcast but will edit it in Audition to clean it up and make sure it
sounds better as there is things that aren’t perfect with this
recording. - End result of me fixing my audio
settings.
- Original Audio.
4. Editing My Recording
• Although my audio recording problem is now fixed, the end result can
sound a lot more professional, I can do this by using Audition in which
I can apply a filter over the audio to make is sound better. I can use
pre- made filters, edit said filters or even make my own. This will
make my recordings sound more crisp and more fluent. Helping with
the professional side of my podcast, making it more appealing to
audiences.

5. Editing- 1
• Podcast Filter- For this filter, I did a bit of editing on it as to begin
with, it was a bit quiet, which is not beneficial for my project. So, I had
to tweak the input to +3.6 and the output to –1.8 due to the levels
peaking above –12dB, which is what level I want my podcast audio to
sit at.
• Here is the finished result:
6. Editing- 2
• Clean Up- The "clean up" filter helps make the audio sound crisper
and clearer, for my raw audio, I did need this, and it does help make
everything sound clearer and more professional, which is what I was
looking for. I have had to change the input and output levels to +2.1
for input and –4.8 for output. This is to help with the levelling of the
audio.
• Here is the final product:
7. Editing- 3
• Edited Clean Up Filter- After the last 2 experiments, I have decided to
use the Clean Up filter but play around with it to see if I can make it
sound any better. I did not change much but played around with the
"DeNoise" setting by making it work for roughly 73% efficiently rather
than the standard, 45%. This helped make my audio sound clearer
and get rid of some of the static sound you could hear in the
background. I also changed the Speech Volume Leveller to these
settings as a way to make it sound better and pic up my mic easier.

8. Analysis and Review of Editing
• I enjoyed the way the podcast filter sounded and how clear it made
things but after listening to the clean-up filter, there was no turning
back. It makes the audio stand out more, which is perfect, and also,
gets rid of most of the static sound coming from the background
which will help me since I don't have a great microphone or
soundproof foam. After messing with some of the settings, I have
made what I think to be, the best and most efficient filter for my raw
audio to be run through. So, I will be using Editing 3 or, Edited Clean
Up filter for the post- production in my podcast.
