2. Music in Podcasts.
• Music is used in podcasts mainly as a way to breakup the podcast. They are mainly used as
transitions between topics are very rarely used in the background of general conversation.
• For my two main sources of inspiration and research. The Joe Rogan Experience uses music as a
introduction to the podcast as well as using it as an outro, Joe will be talking and making an
introduction to the podcast as the music begins to fade out and music is also added to the end of
the podcast as a way to signal that the podcast is coming to an end.
• Zac Shomler with Strong Opinion Sports uses music also for his introduction and outro by also
fading it in and out for the relative places. Zac also starts to do his introduction as the music
begins to fade but he also uses it when he states he is going on a break to drink by using the
music to outro him leaving and then coming back, he does this in every podcast he makes and it is
a good way for the audience to know what is happening.
• I want to use music in a more basic way such as with the Joe Rogan Experience with only using it
during my podcast’s introduction and outro, I will not be using it to signal that I, or co- hosts are
going on a break as we will not be doing that. I have the potential to use a other persons music as
I have permission from an independent artist named Ben Rosset but I do want to try and make my
own just to see if I like it and experiment to see what I can do.
3. Independent Artist.
• Here is photographic proof that I have permission to use the
independent artist’s music within my project.
4. How will I make the
music?
• To make the music, since I have no previous
experience outside of my course, I have no software
to make the music on. But, in my video game
section of this course, I was introduced to a web
browser based music creator named Beepbox. I
used this through that project and since I have a
little bit of experience with the website, I will also
be using it for this project, the layout of the website
is very simple and so are the controls for it, it is
especially good for making a small loop of music
which is perfect as the music track that I am going
to need won’t be used for long, maybe 5 seconds at
a max.
5. How do I want it to sound?
• For all of the music I have heard in any podcast, it has always been
somewhat uplifting or relaxing in nature and I don’t want mine to
stray too far from that but I also want my music to sound somewhat
unique and more either techno or bass. This is due to me liking those
things and the fact that I want the music to be distinguishable to the
audience and have the potential to draw in a bigger audience.
• I will try these two archetypes of music to start with and then, if I feel
like something needs changing or a completely different style should
be tried, I will do that.
6. Help.
• To get me started, I asked a friend of mine who is a music producer
who has made beats for creditable artists such as: Apollo, Lil Tracy
and Witt Lowry, just to name a few. I am asking him for advice on
what to do or at least, how I should start.
Here is my friends response and also the colleague that he referred to,
who’s music I could use if I didn’t like my own or even the person’s music
that I already have permission to use, this gives me a wide variety of
music to use for my podast.
7. Making of the track.
• Here is a video of me making the track and experimenting with what I
want to do or how I want it to sound:
Track 1: Track 2:
8. Analysis.
• Track 1: For this track, I used it as a way to get back up to speed with
the website and also experiment, as you can tell from the video, I was
just putting sounds everywhere and hoping for the best. I also took
inspiration from the game MANHUNT which utilizes a deep and dark
undertone to all of its music, although this sounded good, it did not
fit my plan or podcast whatsoever. I will not be using this track, at all,
for my podcast.
• Track 2: I enjoyed making track 2, I think the piano was a big part of
me enjoying it as I think that is the best part. I didn’t take inspiration
from anything for this one, I just put sounds on and hoped for the
best. I think it worked out and although I enjoyed making it and it
sounding alright, I’m not too sure on where I’d use it in my podcast.
9. Decision.
• I have decided to use some music from the independent artist that I
contacted as his music and talent is better than mine and my free
website. Although, I am still wanting to use my track 2 somewhere in
my project so I think my plan is to use it in the end, for the outro so I
can say I made some music for it and I believe it is a good song to
wrap up on.
• The song I will be using for the introduction is the song I have used
from Ben Rosett named “Lovespell” as it is my favourite song by him
and I believe fits the theme that I am going for the best:
