How didplanninghelpinthe productionstages?
Throughoutthe productionmyplanningwasessential asitgave me the baselineof whatmy
productionshouldbe aboutaswe knewwhatwe wantedtodo fromthe start. The mainpiece of
planningthathelpedthe mostinproductionwasthe storyboard.Thiswas because itgave a clear
ideaof what we were tryingtocreate,specificallythe camerashots andediting.Thisallowedme and
Luke to conferas to what wouldbe the besttechniquesusedbefore we startedfilmingsothatwe
were organisedandefficient. Aswell asgivinganinsightintocreatinganeffectingfilmtrailer,such
as lookingata varietyof camerashots theneliminatingthe lesseffectiveshots.Thenitgave usthe
bestpossible productionopportunities.The planningaspectof the filmtrailerinparticularthe shot
listmeantthat we hada clearideaof how to create an effectiveproductionthroughthe use of
camera.
My Contributiontoplanning,productionandpost-production?
My contributiontoplanningwasthatIcreatedthe productionplanand the script, whilstLuke
workedonthe more visual aspectsof the planning.The mainpiece of planningwasthe scriptasthis
allowedthe trailerreallytocome togetherandmade iteasierwhenediting.Idirectedthe filming,
instructingthe actorsand usingthe lightingeffectivelywasthe mainwayinwhichI didthis.Luke
was the cameramanas he had workedonthe visual aspectsinthe planningsoclearlyknew whathe
wanted. The lightingwasourmainwayto make the filmingeffective,asthiswasconventional ina
suspense/actiontrailer.Icompletedthe postproductionediting.Mymaintechnique indoingthis
was throughfade inand fade out, as well asslow motion.Thisenhancedthe suspense effect.
How have youmade effectiveuse of the technical elements?
Camerawork:The cameraworkthatwas mainlyusedwasclose up,midshot,overthe shouldershot
and panning.These were the anglesthatcreatedthe strongestsuspensefactorthatalsocreated
intrigue asthisisa filmtrailer,itaimstointrigue the audience.Thisisconventional tothe suspense
genre.
Editing:The editingwasmainlycutting,fadesandslow motion. Aswellasadaptingthe lightingto
make it as intense aspossible.The cuttingwasthe mainwayof makingthe filmseenmore
professionalandcreate the intense feelingtothe trailer.Makingthe trailerfitforpurpose.The fades
were usedtoallowfora smoothtransactiontoeach scene ratherthan justcuttingstraightto it.
Thenslowmotionwasusedto increase the intenseeffect,overall the editingwasessential in
releasingthe filmtrailer.
Sound:Soundwas mainly non-diegeticasitmakesthe hostagesseeminmore distress withintense
music,thisreallyaddedtothe suspense feeling aswell asnotrevealingtoomuchof the plotto the
audience,thisaddstothe intrigue element.There wasalsoagunshotnoise asthisconnotesdanger
to the hostages,thisagainadded tothe intense factor.
Mise-en-scene:The mise-en-scene inthe filmtrailerreallyhelpedtoestablishthe characterstothe
audience. Aswell asthe relationshipsbetweeneachcharacter. Thisisstereotypical tothe genre asit
meansthat the audience knowthe baseline of the film.The hostage takerwore asuitas this
connotesdominance overthe hostagesthisisconventional foranantagonist.Whilstall the hostages
wore blackas thisshowedunityasa group and friendship.Thisisstereotypical as itshowedthe clear
divide betweenthe hostage takerandthe hostages.The propsusedinproductionwere gagswhich
are conventionaltoa hostage situationasitshowsrestraintand vulnerability,meaningthe
antagonistwasincontrol.The gunused was to addthe dangeraspectto the filmtrailer. Showing
that the hostagesreallywere indangerandnotjustbeingquestioned.The gunalsoaddedtothe
stereotype of the protagonistsbeinginanunderdogsituationandthe antagonisthavingcontrol.
Thisis stereotypical tosuspense films.
What skillsdoyouneedtoimprove onbefore beginningyourA2production?
The skillsIneedtowork onbefore myA2 production,ismainlythe workonfilming,throughcamera
shotsand angles.Thiswill allow me tobe able tocreate an intense scene inthe future.As wellas
choosingmore conventionalpropstofurtherthe intense emotiontothe film.The lightingisalso
somethingIneedtoworkon and learnthatI shouldn’toveruse the lightingaslessissometimes
more.The scene isverydependentonwhatgenre Ido inA2, but I’mhopingtouse more effective
scenery.Ialsoneedto concentrate onmyeditingskill soIwill be able touse a widerrange of
techniquesinbetterplaceswithinthe trailer.SothatI can create the strongestfilmtrailerpossible.
