This document discusses planning and production techniques used for a preliminary media project and how they were improved upon for the final production. For the prelim, little planning was done and it relied heavily on the script. However, for the final production more planning methods like storyboards and shot lists were utilized. Camera angles were improved to focus viewers on important elements. Additional locations and props were incorporated to enhance the story and characters. Match cuts and adherence to the 180 degree rule created continuity. Greater emphasis was placed on teamwork and shared decision making for the final production.

4. For my prelim I hardly did any planning as we had a short amount of
time to make it. For the prelim we used the script and a shot type
worksheet to help produce it, this made it very hard for us as we were
un aware of what a good scene may look like or what need to be
included.
However, when planning our real production we used many ways of
planning this included planning mise en scene, story boards, shot types,
sound and storyline. Having all of this made making our production
much more easier to film as we had an idea of what it might look like.
This has helped improve our production as we have a better
understanding of the story line and different ways of using media
techniques to help attract appeal and represent the audience.
6. In my prelim my shots had lots of head space on top of the characters
this made the background stand out more than the scene that was
actually happening which may cause the audience to focus more on the
background as a significant moment rather than the scene that I was
shooting.
However in my final production there was very limited space above the
characters heads making them the main focus on the scene. The scene
was then more appealing and the audience and both the my group had
a clearer idea of what we was suppose to be watching and could follow
the sequence better.
From this I have learnt that camera angles and positions are important
through out the production as it makes it clear what the camera is
focusing on. We improved this in our final production as we made
limited to no space within the scenes to show what was going on.
8. Both my prelim and final production had good choice of setting, in my
prelim we used a room that looked much like a busy office this helped
identify where the scene was set. However in my final production we
used many different locations within, this help the story line move on.
The choice of using many locations helped show what kind of genre it
may be and who it may appeal to.
•
This has developed as seeing my final cut compared to my prelim it
made me as an audience more aware of what the story is about and the
main places it is set. It has made my production more interesting as well
as you can look forward to seeing the different events that happen
were as in the prelim you could only imagine everything happening in
that room.
10. • In my prelim I used very limited props as we only had a limited time
to produce it this made it very boring and didn’t really help
represent the characters well. Were as in my final production I use
loads of props including clothing and different items used to help
show the different roles of the characters and bring the production
to life.
•
I have learnt that using props developed my production as a whole it
helped bring it to life. It creates and an initial idea for the audience.
Were as the mood of my prelim wasn’t very affective the props created
a mood and enhanced a sense of emotion for the person watching it.

This rule was used in our prelim when having a conversation and also
used in our final production we thought it was very important to stick
to this rule so that it is easy to understand a conversation that is going
on. This was more clearer in our final production as we used many
different shots such as medium close ups and long shots within the
conversation to represent status and to show significant things like the
watch being stolen. This made the conversation more interesting and
flow more we could then see the conversation from both perspectives
were as in the prelim we used a very limited shot which made the
conversation feel like it was dragging on.
14. In my prelim we used no watching cutting as we did not change scenes
and only used one location.
However in my final production we used a match cut to show contrast
between the two characters. This helped develop my final production
as it help show contrast between the two lives of the characters. This
then showed binary opposition helping the audience understand who
the rivals and who the victim was.
15. Teamwork
Through out the preliminary it was much more easier getting along as a group to
carry out the task of making it. Many decisions were more based on the script and
what we were told to do. This made it very thoughtless and had a lack of
imagination.
However with our final production, team work was one of the key things we
needed to make the production come together smoothly. Everything we decided
was as a team even if one person thought of it we all came to a decision together.
We all took turns doing parts of the filming, acting and editing. This made a big
impact as if decision making was one person based it may not of had the good
ideas that it did. Using each others imagination brought it more life and help get an
idea of what different people from out target audience may life. Although we did
carry out some of the tasks by our selves this includes, ensuring our blogs were up
to date and having the responsibility to bring and take the camera out and bring it
back safely. Being independent helped me as an individual get a better
understanding of the different aspects and see whats going well and what needs to
improve in my own perspective.
