Storyboard
We have designed our storyboard to ensure that we understand and are able to
visualize how are film opening will be laid out. Our storyboard includes images,
camera shot/movements, diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, as well as key
dialogue and use of focus techniques. We decided to create a draft storyboard
first so that we could fully analyze our utilization of techniques which we intend to
use and see whether they would visually work well within a specific scene. After
producing our draft storyboard we developed it into our final storyboard which
will help both us and our actors to see exactly how each scene will be laid out.
Draft storyboard
Draft storyboard:
Final draft
Within our first shot, it will include non-diegetic music
which when combined with our decision of having the
camera still it will create an effective strong introduction
into the film. The use of this being a master shot
contributes in producing an effective stand out opening.
By only having the studio logo at the beginning it creates
enigma as it then goes straight into the film rather than
outlining titles and actors.
The transition between the first and second scenes is a
straight cut, this will help build the concept of urgency and
help present to the audience the perception of panic from
the start. Additionally, like in the first scene we chose to
use no movement so the viewers are able to understand
the seriousness of the situation, as well as, the choice of
having no movement being more realistic in relation to the
reporter atmosphere. Natural lighting will allow the
audience to focus on more specific and important aspects
of the scene such as the brutal truth of what is happening.
Dialogue throughout the scene helps to contribute
towards the affect of creating urgency whilst also outlining
and announcing the story to the audience.
This next shot is also of a reporter but is in a different
setting ‘church’, through the variation in backgrounds
it aids in generating a realism affect upon the
audience, whilst still using natural lighting and no
movement to continue the concept of focusing on
more important aspects, the use of shallow focus will
also help to contribute towards directing the
audiences attention. The use of both diegetic and
non-diegetic sounds will be affective as they will help
in making realistic surroundings, as well as, producing
the impression of disorientation, this is significant
especially to do with the genre. The use of a long shot
within this scene is significant as it allows the audience
to see what's happening from a wider variation of
places, so essentially it a means the audience can
understand the extent of the zombie madness
through such evidential variation.
The next shot is a medium shot, this enables the audience
to see a good level of detail of body language which
illustrates the severe and seriousness of the virus subject.
This is enhanced by the use of diegetic sounds as this
demonstrates how deadly threatening the virus is as it
doesn’t need any additional sounds as it as a report is
strong enough on its own. The use of shallow focus also
means that all the audiences attention is upon the
foreground of the reporter and his/her message. The
straight concentration from the pervious to scenes
Though the use of a long shot it creates the enigmatic affect
upon the audience as gradually through each reporting clip
they are introduced to more and more devastating facts and
evidence to which the use of this long shot gravely
contributes. The impacting dialogue is made clearly the
importance of this scene by the simplistic use of natural
lighting and diegetic sounds only, as it as been from the
earlier reporter shots.
The use of this master shot allows the audience to feel
the sense of tension, as the previous four shots have
been building urgency this final piece of a montage of
them all really creates an enigmatic emphasis upon the
film their about to watch. Additionally, the joining of
dialogue through such a montage emphasises ‘trust
none; save yourself’, which further creates questions into
the relationships that this line maybe relating to, the
significance of this line is also that it suggests that its not
the virus to which is the main problem but in fact how
humans relate to and treat one another.
The use of a point of view shot from the baby's eyes will
enable the audience to see up close how gruesome and
what the virus can do to you, the hand held camera
movements also help to create the realism affect, as well
as, when this movement is combined with the shot it
creates the concept of inferiority of humans compared to
the virus. The significance of having the point of view shot
through the baby's eyes is that it produces an emotional
attachment to the child whilst also covering a variety of
victims which demonstrates to the audience how
unstoppable the virus is and how it will be impossible to
run away from, creating the idea of inevitability, which in
turn forms enigma within the viewers. Natural lighting
elements also relates to the concept of it being naturally
inevitable for everyone to be infected and bit.
An over the shoulder shot allows for the audience to
understand the fear to which these shop victims are
encountering, this shot correspondingly enables them to
see the immense power and vast number to which the
virus has infected and created these zombies from. Low
key lighting adds to creating this overriding power of the
darkness to which represents the influence of the zombies,
and the perception of disorientation to which reignites in
the psychological mind frame of these zombie figures.
Focus pull is a significant technique within this clip as it to
contributes towards creating disorientation and also helps
show the idea of being outnumbered.
In this scene a variety of shots will be used in order to firstly
establish confusement and enigma in the audience,
secondly to maintain the feeling of bewilderment and
feeling out of place which is aided by deciding to break the
180 degree rule, whilst thirdly introducing to them the fear
a victim feels knowing they going to turn into a zombie, this
helps to build an emotional attachment to these actors
especially as they are children in the is scene. The use of
shallow focus will be useful especially in this scene as it will
allow for us to create an effective attack scene to which can
be made believable and realistic.
Within this scene the point of view shot will be effective as
it clearly accentuates the inferiority and weakness the
victims have against the virus, long with the use of hand
held shot movements it in turn forms distress into the
unfathomable unknowing feelings in the audience. The use
of diegetic sounds demonstrate how natural overpowering
the zombie virus is as well as it allowing the audience to
concentrate on this such power in deeper isolation through
such simplicity as the diegetic sounds and natural lighting.
Through the use of a panning shot with a medium type shot
it means that the audience can take in the surrounding
change and be introduced to the main characters with this
gradualism approach. Additionally, the use of both diegetic
and non-diegetic sounds in this scene helps to generate a
building of pressure, as well as creating a flowing transition
from the previous scene so that enigma is created into how
these to characters relate to the graphic evidence they’ve
just seen.
The use of a high angle shot which zooms in means that the
audience will be able to see and hence understand the
innocence of the female protagonists, this will help the
audience to see the characters developments through the
film as this key seen accentuates their virtuousness to both
the virus and to what they will encounter later on, this
produces enigma therefor enhances such a accurate affect.
By returning to the door which previously resigned in last
shot It demonstrates to the audience the noise of banging
and the reasons for the canted angle upon the camera as
it accentuates the banging from the zombie beyond the
door, this further generates enigma as to why these two
girls are braiding each others hair when theirs zombie just
outside of their door. The significance of having a shot
purely of their door it highlights the significance of the
virus within the scene even though it isn’t physically in it.
The returning to the girls through a panning shot again
creates a flowing affect of events upon the audience which
contributes making a believable atmospheric affect.
Additionally, the continuation of using diegetic and non-
diegetic sounds it helps to build the continuously increasing
tension of the scene. The constant fading in and out assists
in building pace and creating fear in the audience and
enticing them to continue watching till the end to see what
happens to the girls.
An extreme close up upon these main characters enables
the audience to fully see these girls especially as the
immune sister has different coloured contacts so this
allows them to see extra details such as this, not only the
immune sister but also the zombie virus side to the other
sister as this creates layers of enigma for the viewers and
hence a creatively effective opening.
The sudden transition of a black out from the pervious
scene makes the title stand out as well as leaving the
audience on a cliff hanger so they will undoubtedly want
to watch more, what also makes the scene significant is
that its been the first still movement scene that the
audience have watched for a couple of minutes now so it
is more effective and creates a greater impact on the
viewers.
The gradual fade into the listings of actors is effective as it
is as if the information is still important but the title is for
most significant, this master shot is a strong way to finish
the opening to the film as it highlights the cliff-hanger
affect that that has been created upon the audience.

Storyboard

  • 1. Immunity By Thalia Barrett, Bobbie Brader and Rebecca Watson Storyboard
  • 2. We have designed our storyboard to ensure that we understand and are able to visualize how are film opening will be laid out. Our storyboard includes images, camera shot/movements, diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, as well as key dialogue and use of focus techniques. We decided to create a draft storyboard first so that we could fully analyze our utilization of techniques which we intend to use and see whether they would visually work well within a specific scene. After producing our draft storyboard we developed it into our final storyboard which will help both us and our actors to see exactly how each scene will be laid out. Draft storyboard
  • 4. Final draft Within our first shot, it will include non-diegetic music which when combined with our decision of having the camera still it will create an effective strong introduction into the film. The use of this being a master shot contributes in producing an effective stand out opening. By only having the studio logo at the beginning it creates enigma as it then goes straight into the film rather than outlining titles and actors.
  • 5. The transition between the first and second scenes is a straight cut, this will help build the concept of urgency and help present to the audience the perception of panic from the start. Additionally, like in the first scene we chose to use no movement so the viewers are able to understand the seriousness of the situation, as well as, the choice of having no movement being more realistic in relation to the reporter atmosphere. Natural lighting will allow the audience to focus on more specific and important aspects of the scene such as the brutal truth of what is happening. Dialogue throughout the scene helps to contribute towards the affect of creating urgency whilst also outlining and announcing the story to the audience.
  • 6. This next shot is also of a reporter but is in a different setting ‘church’, through the variation in backgrounds it aids in generating a realism affect upon the audience, whilst still using natural lighting and no movement to continue the concept of focusing on more important aspects, the use of shallow focus will also help to contribute towards directing the audiences attention. The use of both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds will be affective as they will help in making realistic surroundings, as well as, producing the impression of disorientation, this is significant especially to do with the genre. The use of a long shot within this scene is significant as it allows the audience to see what's happening from a wider variation of places, so essentially it a means the audience can understand the extent of the zombie madness through such evidential variation.
  • 7. The next shot is a medium shot, this enables the audience to see a good level of detail of body language which illustrates the severe and seriousness of the virus subject. This is enhanced by the use of diegetic sounds as this demonstrates how deadly threatening the virus is as it doesn’t need any additional sounds as it as a report is strong enough on its own. The use of shallow focus also means that all the audiences attention is upon the foreground of the reporter and his/her message. The straight concentration from the pervious to scenes
  • 8. Though the use of a long shot it creates the enigmatic affect upon the audience as gradually through each reporting clip they are introduced to more and more devastating facts and evidence to which the use of this long shot gravely contributes. The impacting dialogue is made clearly the importance of this scene by the simplistic use of natural lighting and diegetic sounds only, as it as been from the earlier reporter shots.
  • 9. The use of this master shot allows the audience to feel the sense of tension, as the previous four shots have been building urgency this final piece of a montage of them all really creates an enigmatic emphasis upon the film their about to watch. Additionally, the joining of dialogue through such a montage emphasises ‘trust none; save yourself’, which further creates questions into the relationships that this line maybe relating to, the significance of this line is also that it suggests that its not the virus to which is the main problem but in fact how humans relate to and treat one another.
  • 10. The use of a point of view shot from the baby's eyes will enable the audience to see up close how gruesome and what the virus can do to you, the hand held camera movements also help to create the realism affect, as well as, when this movement is combined with the shot it creates the concept of inferiority of humans compared to the virus. The significance of having the point of view shot through the baby's eyes is that it produces an emotional attachment to the child whilst also covering a variety of victims which demonstrates to the audience how unstoppable the virus is and how it will be impossible to run away from, creating the idea of inevitability, which in turn forms enigma within the viewers. Natural lighting elements also relates to the concept of it being naturally inevitable for everyone to be infected and bit.
  • 11. An over the shoulder shot allows for the audience to understand the fear to which these shop victims are encountering, this shot correspondingly enables them to see the immense power and vast number to which the virus has infected and created these zombies from. Low key lighting adds to creating this overriding power of the darkness to which represents the influence of the zombies, and the perception of disorientation to which reignites in the psychological mind frame of these zombie figures. Focus pull is a significant technique within this clip as it to contributes towards creating disorientation and also helps show the idea of being outnumbered.
  • 12. In this scene a variety of shots will be used in order to firstly establish confusement and enigma in the audience, secondly to maintain the feeling of bewilderment and feeling out of place which is aided by deciding to break the 180 degree rule, whilst thirdly introducing to them the fear a victim feels knowing they going to turn into a zombie, this helps to build an emotional attachment to these actors especially as they are children in the is scene. The use of shallow focus will be useful especially in this scene as it will allow for us to create an effective attack scene to which can be made believable and realistic.
  • 13. Within this scene the point of view shot will be effective as it clearly accentuates the inferiority and weakness the victims have against the virus, long with the use of hand held shot movements it in turn forms distress into the unfathomable unknowing feelings in the audience. The use of diegetic sounds demonstrate how natural overpowering the zombie virus is as well as it allowing the audience to concentrate on this such power in deeper isolation through such simplicity as the diegetic sounds and natural lighting.
  • 14. Through the use of a panning shot with a medium type shot it means that the audience can take in the surrounding change and be introduced to the main characters with this gradualism approach. Additionally, the use of both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds in this scene helps to generate a building of pressure, as well as creating a flowing transition from the previous scene so that enigma is created into how these to characters relate to the graphic evidence they’ve just seen.
  • 15. The use of a high angle shot which zooms in means that the audience will be able to see and hence understand the innocence of the female protagonists, this will help the audience to see the characters developments through the film as this key seen accentuates their virtuousness to both the virus and to what they will encounter later on, this produces enigma therefor enhances such a accurate affect.
  • 16. By returning to the door which previously resigned in last shot It demonstrates to the audience the noise of banging and the reasons for the canted angle upon the camera as it accentuates the banging from the zombie beyond the door, this further generates enigma as to why these two girls are braiding each others hair when theirs zombie just outside of their door. The significance of having a shot purely of their door it highlights the significance of the virus within the scene even though it isn’t physically in it.
  • 17. The returning to the girls through a panning shot again creates a flowing affect of events upon the audience which contributes making a believable atmospheric affect. Additionally, the continuation of using diegetic and non- diegetic sounds it helps to build the continuously increasing tension of the scene. The constant fading in and out assists in building pace and creating fear in the audience and enticing them to continue watching till the end to see what happens to the girls.
  • 18. An extreme close up upon these main characters enables the audience to fully see these girls especially as the immune sister has different coloured contacts so this allows them to see extra details such as this, not only the immune sister but also the zombie virus side to the other sister as this creates layers of enigma for the viewers and hence a creatively effective opening.
  • 19. The sudden transition of a black out from the pervious scene makes the title stand out as well as leaving the audience on a cliff hanger so they will undoubtedly want to watch more, what also makes the scene significant is that its been the first still movement scene that the audience have watched for a couple of minutes now so it is more effective and creates a greater impact on the viewers.
  • 20. The gradual fade into the listings of actors is effective as it is as if the information is still important but the title is for most significant, this master shot is a strong way to finish the opening to the film as it highlights the cliff-hanger affect that that has been created upon the audience.
