Preliminary taskevaluation
How did planning help in the production stage?
The planningallowedme andmy groupto schedule whenwe neededtodoa certainstage of our
final piece. Thismade usmore organisedduringthe productionof ourTV advertisement. Planning
alsoenabledustoset outindividual taskstoeachmemberof ourgroup forboth productionand
pre-productionstages.Anotherwayinwhichourplanninghashelpeduswiththe productionstage
of ouradvertis the script.The firstscriptthat we had writtenwastoolongonce we hadrecorded
thisthenmeantthat we had to editscript.
What was your individual contribution to planning, production and post-production?
Planning
I was giventhe jobof creatinga productionplan,thisisthe planthat we followedtoproduce our
advert.
Production
As well asbeingthe cameramanfor all the shotsin the advert,I wasalsothe director. ThismeantI
was incharge of filminggood qualityfootage,aswell asmakingsure everythingthatwasin the
scene wasthere fora particularreason. Ialso tookthe picture of the close upimage onour product.
I usedshallowfocus,soitmade our productstand out;by doingthisitcreatesa more profession
feel tothe advert.
Post-production
Duringthe post-productionstage of ouradvertisementIgave inputintohow tomake the advert
lookmore appealingtomytarget audience.
How have you made effective use of technical elements?
Camerawork
In our advertwe useda close upimage,whichwasfocusedonour product. We didthisbyusing
shallowfocus. Aswell asthiswe usedawide shotto show boththe settingandthe model whowas
running.We useda close upof the runnerto firstlyintroduce herasa character.
Editing
We usedslowmotiontoshow,the actionof runningina more detailedway,we hadalsoseenit
previouslyusedinadvertisementsforrunningshoes.We feltitwasnecessarytofollow conventions.
We alsousedcuttingto piece ourseparate clipstogether,we done thisbyusing‘Adobe Premiere
Elements13’.
Sound
We useddialogue,whichwasusedtoinformthe audience aboutthe keyfeaturesof the running
shoe,we triedtomake thisvoice clearbut alsowitha powerful effect.We alsousedthe sound
effectof a starterpistol,whichisa soundassociatedwithsprintingevents. The upbeatmusicwhich
isassociatedwithrunningisalsoconventional forrunningshoe adverts,italsostoppedthe wind

noise whichoccurredwhilstfilmingoutside.The Song’WorkWork’by BrittanySpearsisa sporty
songwhichimpliesworkingforwhatyouwantthrough exercise.
Mise-en-scene
To make our footage fititspurpose we usedcostume.Ourmodel wore sportsweartoshow that she
was a sporty individual;thisisbothconventional andappealingforthe audience astheywill aspire
to looklike this.AsdirectorImade sure darkercolourswere wornto make the brightlycoloured
shoeswhichwe were advertisingtostandoutand be a focal point.
What skills do you need to improve upon before you begin you’re A2 production work?
One issue we had was that we film in portrait instead of landscape. This made the footage
look unprofessional and didn’t fit the screen the full resolution. I also need to improve on
the steadiness of my footage; I could do this by using a smaller tripod to allow me to get a
high quality finish at a low angle. One more aspect that I would like to improve of is my use
of technical elements as this would improve the appeal to my target audience. I could do
this be going to better/interesting set locations as I will be able to do more to the set design.
We use a variety of shot types however I feel we could have used more techniques such as
using props, possibly a hurdle. I would also improve on the amount of technical elements to
give a more overall interesting look to my A2 coursework.
