1. The firstscene consistsof onlyone shot,it wasthe firstthingI had filmedonday2. It’sa mid-shot
withhigh-keylightingandnocamera movement(withthe onlyaudiobeingdialogue). Ihadinitially
storyboardedsome movementinthisscene butmade the decisiontofilmitthiswayto adddiversity
to my film,Ihave veryfewmomentsinmyfilmwhere the cameraisstationary, andIbelieve itkeeps
my filmfrombeingrepetitive.Furthermore,itwasplannedtobe filmedthiswayinordertoseta
light-heartedtone.The audience knowthatthisfilmwill take adarkturn, addingto the tragedy
people expecttosee ina horror film.Overall,Ibelieve thissceneissuitable formyfilmbecause it
establishesthe tone and the mise-en-sceneof abrightlookinghouse makesthe footage seemsmore
authentic.
The secondthingI filmedthatdaywas scene 3, whichconsistsof 5 differentshotsoverall. The first
beinga wide shotwithhigh-key/natural lighting, whichactsasan establishingshotbecause itgives
the audience aglimpse of the characterssurroundings. The second hasa lotmore movement,
consistingof a lotof handheldmotionsandanover-the shouldershot.Ipersonallylike the
compositionof thisshot, the audience watchinginsuspensefrombehindthe characteras he pulls
out a mysteriousduffel bag.The thirdshotinthisscene isonce againfull of handheld movements,
featuringalot of close ups/extreme close upsonthe props. The purpose of thisshotis to establish
that these twocharactersare indanger, solidifiedinthe climax withanextreme close upof abloody
knife. Usingthe bloodyknifewasiconography, because thispropissymbolicof the horror genre.
The fourthshot containsdialogue,usingamid-shotof the characteras theyhave a discussion. The
purpose of thissectionisto showthe characters comingtoterms withthe dangerthat theyare in
(followingupfromthe lastshot). The final shotissimple, handheld movementsasthe characters
walkawaywiththe duffel bag, havingmade adecisiononwhatto do. I believe Itaddsa sense of
finalitytothisscene, while alsosettingme upfora graphic match intothe nextsection.Overall, this
scene wasplannedandshotwiththe purpose of immersingthe audience intothe film. The pointof
viewstyle of foundfootage makesthe viewerfeelemotionsalongside the characters, makingthem
more likelytokeepwatchingthe shortfilm.
The final thingI filmedthatdaywasscene 5, the ending. The firstshotshowsthe twocharacters
running,withlow-keylightingandfranticcameramovementscreatingmystery/suspense(things
expectedof ahorror film).Thisshotdramaticallyspeedsupthe pace of the film, goingfromthe still
shotsat the endof scene 4 to chaoticrunning. The secondshotisstill, contrastingtothe lastshot we
see.Itusesa mid-shotof the character and the duffel baginlow-keylighting,featuringdialogueto
reveal more of the narrative to the audience. The final shotof the filmispurposefullylow-angled,
puttingthe character ina positionof powerandmakingthe audience feelvulnerable.Ibelieve this
scene issuitable formyscene because itleavesthe viewsatthe edge of theirseatsuntil the very
end, leadingthemintoanopenending.Notprovidinganysense of finality.
