“My Heart is Broken”
Treatment Sheet
We have produced a Treatment Sheet for the music video in which I have
developed my initial ideas into a comprehensive brief, specifying what we intend
to do with the video in terms of the overall concept, performance, narrative,
camera, editing and lighting. This will help us produce the storyboard and such
like, and will help ensure that we stick to our plan as much as possible. However
understandably our ideas are very much likely to change over time.

2. Concept
The concept revolves around a girl creating a world in her dreams, to escape the
upset and misery due to departing from her lover, however it later becomes a
nightmare. She will be in dark shadowy places to represent her emotions,
thoughts and feelings. She will portray her sadness and fear through her
performance; this is a major part to the video, as it will ensure the music’s genre
type.
Performance and Narrative
Evanescence have a variation of songs, whilst most of the songs do consist of
depressing lyrics and representation, they alter their tone and tempo by having
it either upbeat or at a slower pace. To illustrate a conceptual video with the
cohesion of narrative and performance, the star must portray compassion and
emotion into their performance to make sure they convey this. The more
believable and real the performance feels, the more likely that the audience will
be able to relate to it, and more importantly enjoy it.
Camera and Editing
It will be essential to use a variety of different camera shots, varying the shots,
depth, distance and angles so that it will be aesthetically pleasing for the viewer.
Specific editing techniques such as jump cuts will work hand in hand with the
performance of the actress to help portray her emotions and feelings, showing
discomfort and complex. This will help the audience understand the video more
and enable them to relate to it.

3. Lighting
A stereotypical rock video will have low-key lighting and seen as though we
wont be challenging the conventions of this genre, we will also do the same. The
lighting, in addition with the camera and editing, all will help us portray this dark
feeling that most rock videos consist of.
