This document contains a lesson plan for a secondary school English class. The lesson plan aims to improve students' reading, listening, speaking, and collaborative skills through activities about changes and trends in the workplace. Students will discuss statements about equal work conditions, technology and unemployment, and the importance of English for jobs. They will read statements in groups, discuss their opinions, and write paragraphs explaining their level of agreement. The lesson incorporates group work, class discussions, and the use of cell phones for vocabulary lookups to integrate skills in a communicative approach.

Teaching approach: I’ll use the communicative approach in order to give the
students the opportunity to use the language to communicate in real
situations.
Integration of skills: The four skills will be integrated. Reading and writing will
be developed by reading texts and answering different questions. Listening
and speaking will be also developed through listening to the teacher and the
classmates and by reading and repeating vocabulary/ phrases.
Communicative skills will be developed by interaction.
Materials and resources: in the classroom we will use the book with which
the students always work. I’ll also use a picture in the warm up stage.
Pedagogical use of ICT in class or at home: ICT will be present because
students will use their cell phones in order to look for new words in an online
dictionary.
Seating arrangement: Students will be in their seats during the whole lesson.
They can change seats if needed in order to work in pairs.
Assessment: what will be assessed and how: I’ll monitor all my students
through the lesson and I’ll check whether if they understand what I say or
not. I’ll try to make them repeat the different patterns and encourage them
to use the chunks meaningfully.
Warm up (10 minutes)
Purpose: To begin the lesson and create a comfortable atmosphere; to introduce
the students to the topic.
Students will enter the classroom and we’ll greet each other. While they go to their
seats I will write on the board the following sentence ‘men and women work under
equal conditions’, “What do you think about this statement? Do you agree or
disagree with it?” I’ll point my thumb up and down to help the students understand
the question. I’ll try they tell me why do they agree or not.
Transition: “Great! We will work in groups now. Let’s see if you agree or not with the
following statements.”
3. Presentation (20 minutes)
Purpose: To Expose the students to the language; to enhance students’
communicative skills and to develop or improve comprehensive skills.
I’ll give the students a photocopy with the following statements and they will have
to read them and discussed them in groups. I’ll read the statements aloud so they
can listen to them and while they read.
- “Men and women work under equal conditions”
- “Technology is not related to unemployment nowadays”
- “Speaking English is really important to get some jobs”
Transition: “Good! It’s time to tell me what do you think about these statements. Let’s
do it”
Development (20 minutes)
Purpose: to develop communicative skills; to foster interaction and to check
students’ knowledge of new vocabulary.
Activity 1: (20 minutes) Students will have to work in groups and write a short
paragraph about the different statements, explaining why they agree or not agree
with tem.
Transition: “Let’s see if we all agree or not now!”
Closure (10 minutes)
Purpose: to raise students’ motivation.
As a closure activity students will have to share what they answered in the previous
activity. I’ll ask them to share the different answers and we will write about the
thoughts they have in common.
“Great job! See you next class everybody. Have a good day!”
