try and encourage customers to buy 
their product to make them look just as 
beautiful. Also they use “perfect” 
models to give the illusion that their 
product can make people flawless. 
Celebrities are used many 
times in adverts because 
they are well known and 
some people want to be 
like then. So by having 
well-known celebrities 
advertise their product they 
can assure some people 
will buy it.
Independence/Individuality 
Intelligence 
Holiday adverts often use luxurious islands to 
represent “escape” as most people would like to be 
able to escape everyday life for a while in order to 
relax. 
The advert gives the viewer a sense of 
independence which will give them a unique 
feel. People will believe by buying this product 
they will be different from everyone else. 
This advert portrays a sense of intelligence as you will be 
“smarter” by buying this car as it helps the environment 
compared to people who don’t. The fact that you buy the 
product makes you “smart” and better than everyone else.
Lifestyle 
Nurture 
Peer Approval 
By viewing this advert it makes you feel as if 
you are missing out if you do not buy this 
product. As a lot of people have it and if you 
don’t you will be left out. 
This adverts make you feel sad as it makes you feel 
responsible for the actions happening on these 
animals, they. They try and make you feel guilty so 
you buy or “donate” to the cause,
Rebel 
Rhetorical Question 
This is encouraging people to buy this beer as it is showing 
that by drinking this product you have the approval of your 
peers, gaining more respect from doing this. 
It is focused on younger adults as by buying he 
product it releases a more wild side of you, a side 
that may be more ‘fun’ and ‘exiting’
Scientific / Statistical Claim 
Unfinished Comparison / Claim 
A rhetorical question makes you think about the issue at 
hand, and as they person is a young girl who is upset it 
makes the viewer obliged to help and donate otherwise 
they will feel bad for ignoring her. 
Adverts use statistical claims to try and make their 
product more appealing to the customer, they manipulate 
real statistics to make them look better to try and sell 
their product. 
Some adverts even claim to be/do certain things 
without having any evidence behind it to try and 
persuade people into buying the product as some 
people are too unaware of the real situation.
