Clause yang terbagi ke dalam:
- Independent Clause
- Dependent Clause
Clause

3. Definisi
Clause adalah sekelompok kata yang mempunyai
subjek dan predikat (kata kerja).
Clause bisa merupakan bagian dari sebuah kalimat dan
bisa juga merupakan kalimat utuh.
Contoh:
- he came
- he is laughing
- she had a long career but she is remembered mainly
for one early work

4. Contoh:
- he reached school in time
- I was standing near a wall
- they are singing in a loud voice
- she made tea for the guests
- he bought a book for his friend
- I will meet him in my office
- you look handsome in this picture

5. Independent Clauses
Independent Clauses dapat berdiri sendiri dan
merupakan kalimat utuh.
Contoh:
- they lived on the tiny island
- our friends were extremely terrified
- their car was demolished
- computers are wonderful tools
- the calendar needs to be updated
- Mrs. Jackson will have our grades online

6. Dependent Clauses
Dependent clauses tidak memiliki makna kalau berdiri
sendiri dan memerlukan bantuan untuk memiliki makna
yang utuh. Dependent clauses ini biasanya dimulai
dengan if, so, when, after, because, before, while, until,
since, dll.

7. Dependent Clauses
Contoh:
- since she was late to school today
- until we win the big game
- after she travels to Europe
- while we are speeding down the interstate
- when I go to my old elementary school
- if you like more cheese on your pizza

8. Conditional Clauses
Conditional clause adalah sebuah clause yang
biasanya dimulai dengan if atau unless dan
mengemukakan sebuah kemungkinan.
Contoh:
- If it looks like rain, a simple shelter can be made
out of a plastic sheet.
- I'll be home tomorrow unless the plane's
delayed for hours.

9. Relative Clauses
Relative clause adalah sebuah clause yang biasanya
berfungsi sebagai penghubung menggunakan kata
seperti which, that, whom, whose, when, where, atau
who.
Contoh:
- I first saw her in Paris, where I lived in the early
nineties.
- I was wearing the dress that I bought to wear to
Jo's party.
