Summary of results
1. Summary of Results
After creating my own questionnaire, I then gave 15 people who fitted my target
audience of young adults the questionnaire. Here I will analyse the results and my new
ideas for my magazine.
The first question I asked what whether the person was male or female. I aimed to ask around the
same number of each gender so I got different perspectives from each gender, as my target
audience for my music magazine is going to be both males and females. This has helped me
greatly as now I know what each gender likes differently or feels the same about.
What is your favourite genre of
music?
Rock
Hip Hop
Rap
Dance
R&B
Classical
Other
I asked this question because I wanted to
find out how many people on average
enjoy listening to the rock music genre.
From the results I found out that the majority
of the 15 people I asked, their favourite
genre of music was the one I am going to
be focusing on. This is helpful as it shows that
there is going to be a large audience for
the music magazine which I am going to
create. I don’t think that I should have
included the option ‘other’ as many people
put sub-genres of the main music genres I
listed- such as indie and alternative. I now
definitely know that when I create my
magazine it won’t have a small niche
market.

I asked this question because I
wanted to find out how my target
audience obtained the music they
listened to. By finding out this
information I am able to find out
whether my magazine should have
download links for the audience or a
free CD inside. The results show that
from the 15 people, that it was
pretty evenly spread- 7 people
downloaded their music and 6
people bought CDs. In the ‘other’
option, 2 people commented that
they listened to their music on
Youtube. From this information I think
that I will be including a free CD
inside my music magazine and also
download links as from the results it
shows that my audience use the
internet for their music access.
2. How often do you attend music
concerts/gigs/festivals?
Weekly
Monthly
Every Few Months
Yearly
Rarely
Never
I asked this question as I wanted to
find out whether my target
audience attended events for
music. The results show that nearly
half of the people who answered
the questionnaire attended either
a concert/gig/festival every few
months. This shows that it isn’t in
high demand that I included dates
for these events, but it would be
good to include a page near the
back which would show the tours
and dates. I don’t think I should
have asked this question as I don’t
think that it will benefit me on the
double page spread or the
contents page, but I could possibly
include a banner on the front
cover called ‘Tour Dates
Released’.
I then asked the question – who is/are your favourite artists? This was an unsuccessful question
which I cannot display the results for as they were so varied. Results ranged from The Script to
Nirvana to Lilly Allen. This question has not helped me at all with my music magazine research as it
was too vague. However, the results from this question I have got show that my target audience
like the mainstream.

No
I asked this question as I wanted to
find out how many of the target
audience I was aiming my music
magazine at, actually read music
magazines already. The results
show that more people didn’t read
music magazines compared to
people who did. When I briefly
asked them why they didn’t, replies
were ‘I don’t have time’ and ‘They
don’t have my favourite bands’.
This means in terms of my target
audience, that I need to make my
music magazine, I need to make it
as interesting as possible
throughout, so they don’t want to
spend time on something else- also
I want to include a large range of
music artists – from new to old.
3. What would you like to read
about in a music magazine of your

I asked this question because I
wanted to find out from my target
audience what they wanted to
read about in the music magazine
which I am going to create. The
results shows that the majority of
my target audience would like to
read interviews. I am glad as this is
the result which I had hoped for as
I have researched music artist
interviews in the previous task 6. I
think that the only problem with
this question was that it was too
vague- if I hadn’t of put examples
underneath the question, then I
don’t think that I would have got
the same results as I did.
I asked this multiple choice
question as I wanted to find out
what artists my target audience
would have heard of. The results
show that out of 15 people, 14 of
them know ‘My Chemical
Romance’, 13 know ‘The Killers’
12 know ‘Foo Fighters’ and 11
know ‘ACDC’. This is helpful as it
shows what music bands/artists
are more popular – the newer
artists it appears to show. I think
that I should have asked the
question ‘Would you like to listen
to new undiscovered
bands/artists’ as this would have
had a more effective result for
the music magazine which I am
creating. In terms of my target
audience it shows that they
enjoy listening to the more
modern rock artists.
I then asked the question ‘How much are you willing to pay for a music magazine?’. The four
options were either; nothing, £1.00-£1.50, £2-£3 and more, if the quality is good. The majority of the
target audience answered £1.00-£1.50 – with 10 out of 15 answering this. 4 People answered £2£3 whilst one answered ‘Nothing’. I think this was a good question to ask as it clearly showed that I
should have my music magazine priced between £1 and £1.50.
4. What colour scheme would you
like to see for the magazine?
Red/Black/White
Black/White
Pink/Blue
Orange/Black/White
I asked this question because I
wanted to find out what the target
would like to have more a colour
scheme for my music magazine. The
majority of the target audience would
like to see a Red, White and Black
colour scheme. I am glad that the
majority of the people chose this
option as this is very stereotypical for a
rock music magazine to have.
Magazines such as NME and Q have
this colour scheme and it looks very
effective. I think that this colour
scheme enhances my genre and will
make it more obvious to other people
what the magazine will be about just
by looking at the colours.
