3. Front Cover Process
For the front cover (to save time,) I used a bit older artwork I'd produced and updated
with things such as typography, a masthead, a bar code and a skyline...
To place text on the screen, I used the "Horizontal Type Tool.'
Providing a range of size and a mix between the main colour
scheme I'd set (white or gold.)
To help push for the more golden look, I added a gradient
using the "Brush Tool" (with a faded opacity,) and dotted it
where I wanted the light or shadow to appear – in a new
layer, adjusted onto the text layers below.
Using a mask over the text layer, I can make it appear as if the
text is behind something (such as the main characters head...
To cut out things such as the characters, I used the "Polygonal
Lasso Tool" around the part of the image I want to cut out. To
help cut the hair (as the edges are quite rough,) I used
"Refine Edge..." And brought up the "Radius" on "Edge
Detection."
4. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you
include in your final product?
– In my final experiment I will be including the
inclusion of artwork as the main image (especially
as it'll be a magazine based around my artwork...)
– I also like the idea of placing the text behind and
in front on images on magazine – along with
masthead being replaced the main character.
6. Front Cover Process
To help achieve the faded look to my work, I used the
"Brightness/Contrast" adjustment layer and played about
with either the contrast turned down or the brightness up –
until I got a look I liked.
After finding an image I approved of I wanted to play about
with it and attempt to give it a stylized look – to do this, I
used "Unshapen Mask" filter – to bring out the shadows and
prevent the image from looking flat, followed by touching it
up with "Reduce Noise" - to take away the noise and apply a
slightly oil painted look.
7. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in
your final product?
– In my final project I like the idea of having a background
with either a texture and/or a faded image in it – as I
believe any magazine should appeal more to it's visual
base – as that's what makes them stand out.
– Furthermore, I will also be using the columns of text – as
that's what they do in the industry.
– I will also be further using a lighter patch around the black
text as it help it become more readable – as that's an
important thing, that my audience are able to read the
articles.
