2. Primary Research
• Where/how did you use this?
– We did a questionnaire during our Irn-Bru project – Gathering
information on who my audience (are they a male or female, what age
bracket do you fit into and whether they like soft drinks – as this is a
promotion for people with soft drinks – so will the answers they give
be useful?)
– On top of this I also gathered an incite to what personally draws them
into the an advert.)
• Advantages
– We can get a good perspective on what people's demographic's,
interest's and their personal view points – to help direct the
product to their interests.
• Disadvantages
– Not everyone could take the surveys seriously – so the data might not
be completely accurate.
3. Secondary Research
• Where/how did you use this?
– Market Research.
– Experiments.
• Advantages
– By understanding a market – it can help you to appeal to
that audiences strengths and interests – using data.
• Disadvantages
– You wouldn't be able to get personal answers/data.
4. Quantitative Research
• Where/how did you use this?
– Questionnaire.
– Market Research.
• Advantages
– It's a more binary way of having data – making it easier to
compare different statistics.
• Disadvantages
– Quantitative data loses more of personal input from the
audience, making it less exact.
5. Qualitative Research
• Where/how did you use this?
– Questionnaire.
• Advantages
– It allows you to receive a more pacific data – with an
audience's input
• Disadvantages
– It's harder to record as data – such as charts and
percentages.
6. Audience Research
• Where/how did you use this?
– I gained an audience profile of my audience – using the
questionnaire – asking for their age, gender and their
preference on soft drinks.
• Advantages
– By doing this, I can understand my audience – who I'm
appealing to and how I potentially can, using the given the
correct data.
• Disadvantages
– If gathering an audience profile via a questionnaire – you have
to know what questions to ask.
– Not all data on the audience will be useful.
7. Market Research
• Where/how did you use this?
– YouGov.
• Advantages
– Like audience research, it helps you understand who
you're trying to sell to, on a more market based range.
• Disadvantages
– The data's taken from an alternative market.
8. Summary
• 3 areas that worked
– I successfully created a questionnaire – using both qualitative and
quantitative...
– I also successfully researched and broke down officially made products
– the Irn-Bru adverts.
– As well as receiving two types of data from the questionnaire, I also
gained a good audience profile on my audience.
• 3 areas that need improvement
– With a lot of my research, I visited few website – meaning my research
isn't as strong as it potentially as strong as it could've been.
– With my market research I should've expanded more on the each
preference and figure – and expand upon it by explain what it could
mean.
– When researching games for the Adv-Game, I only looked at one
which would later heavily inspire my Adv-game.
