2. Existing Product (star fox 64)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vgfgEk-uRI
Upon observation of the existing product one thing to note is that there is a heavy enthesis on
sound effects as when ever the character picks up an item the game will make a positive sound
effect and when receiving extra health the game once again make a positive sound effect and a
negative sound effect will play if the players is hit or bumps into an enemy or object, this I
subtitle way of the game leading the player in the right direction as when the player dose
something good the game will indicate that with a positive feed back of a positive sound effect
indicating to the player they’re on the right track however if the payer does something bad like
getting damaged the game will indicate that with a negative sound effect telling the player to
not do that.
The color scheme for the game has very muted colors as since the games theme is of war the
color scheme has to represent this bit of gritty realism in the way it presents colors with an
enthesis on blacks and greys mixing in with other colors like blue and green.
3. Another thing that I found on observation was the way the
game used its soundtrack to represent the situation the payer
character is in as when the player is in the on rails shooter
segment the music is very fast paced and chaotic since in the
game play fighters as getting shot down and exploding laser are
zipping past as high speed and then when the player reaches
the boss the music become more slowed down and orchestral
as to represent the boss being faced and it size which really
helps emirs' the player in the games world and the action.

4. Existing Product (KND- Operation
G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E.S.)
On observation of the existing product we see that when the player picks up what are the power
up of the games, we are given an audio cue to tell us that the power up has been collected but
also when an enemy or player is hit a explosion sound effect with an explosion visual will play to
indicate that the enemy or player has been hit a similar process is also used when selecting
options on a menu as every time the player click on a option the game makes a sound effect to
indicate that action has occurred.
The colour scheme for the game is more vibrant with the uses of brighter colours as since the
game's visuals are based on a kids tv show which have very bright colour scheme it makes sense
for the game based on the tv shows visuals would share the colour scheme of the show.
Another observation I have made from the existing product is that the soundtrack has a very
secret spies feel to it with technical synth to it which fit with the game as it was based on a kids
tv show with a secret spy agent theme

5. Existing
Product
Galaga
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvjapcHsqXY
Upon observation of the existing product I have found that the audio is used within the game
when a laser is fire by both the enemy and the player and when an enemy is destroyed and a
small jingle when the player wins the level or have the fighter captured.
The color scheme for the game is very simple with the use of bright color over a black
background which help the sprites stand out more.
Another observation I have made is that the enemy's have all unique movement and attack
patterns each which I have also notice in other rail shooters I have researched with some take
simple movements of moving from one side to another to some focusing in on the player.
6. Existing Product Stardew valley
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf05yKfVpL0
The reason for choosing this game was to use it as a reference for its pixel art style which I will
be using in my game.
An observation I have made from this existing product is that the use of sound effects are quite
heavy as every aspect of the game has audio attached to it from the selection screen to just
walking in the game even backgrounds sounds are used which I feel is a strong way to invest the
player within the world and make it feel more alive.
The color scheme for the game have very natural colors such as browns greens and, blues which
is meant to reflect the calming nature of the game.
Another observation I made was the soundtrack of the game as in the title screen the music, I
claiming slow whereas in the game itself has music relying heavy on banjo which still in itself is a
very calming music reflecting the concept of the game itself to unstress and calm down from the
games simplicity.
7. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched products have?
– One common feature the researched products had in common was that the soundtracks fitted
with the theme of each game for example Stardew valley is a relaxing game so it soundtrack
will sound calm and lead back whereas operation G.R.A.D.U.A.T.E.S is based on spies so the
music is more techy and synth.
– Another similarity I have found within my researched product is that when looking at the on
rail shooter game certain enemy's had simple pathing whilst others had more complex paths
as what I mean by this is that when most enemy's where attacking they move either left and
right then attack the player and move on whilst other would stay on the player until they had
been dealt with.
– A third similarity I have noticed in the product I researched is how audio is used as every time
the player make an action with the character such as shooting there is an audio que to go with
it.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
– One aspect of my research I will include in my work is the soundtrack fitting with the theme of
the game a since my game is a faced paced military on rails shooting the sound track has to
faced paced with hard hitting instruments.
– Another aspect of my research I will include in my product is how enemy will respond to the
players as some will have a simple attack pattern whilst other may have more complex ways of
attacking the player.
– A final aspect of my research I will include in my final product is the use of audio as for every
action made I will make sure it is followed with and audio que.
