The document outlines initial plans for music video ideas for the song "Home" by MGK, featuring other artists. 5 ideas are presented that interpret the song using different styles and techniques explored in previous sessions. The ideas involve narratives of performers' past lives flashing back and forth, a psychological vision of childhood, a metaphorical depiction of fame and loneliness, and choreographed scenes depicting a performer's mental state. Weaknesses and strengths of the ideas are discussed. The document concludes with details of the song "I'm a Mess" by Bebe Rexha, and an idea for a video that shows the overwhelming effects of love through a performer representing craziness interrupting the artist. Production techniques are listed for implementation.
2. Idea Generation
• Select a song/track that you like [or don’t like!]
• Generate three ideas for music videos employing styles, techniques
and conventions that we have looked at in previous sessions. Explore
how you could interpret the song differently using different methods
• You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images, mind maps,
etc
• For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us to generate these
4. Idea one : "Home"
• The video will consist of 3 main performers lip syncing to each artist.
The video will display the poor lives of the 3 as well as other extras
showing them barely scraping by but sticking with each other.
• The video goes on to show the three and the better lives they lived
before it was taken from them flashing back and forth between the
two different time points showing the contrast between them.
• The Video could end with them standing up for a group of people
who are having their lives ruined / taken away from them etc.
• Reason(s) for the lives changing could be a corrupt government or a
punishment for taking there lives for granted misusing there status.
5. Idea two : "Home"
• "Home" could be a psychological place being the main performers
(lip syncing MGK) vision of there youth.
• The other two performers (in place for the other two artists) could be
omniscient beings almost like narrators that may not even have to
appear in the video.
• The video would start with a young child showing him enjoying his
childhood with his friends.
• As the video progresses the boy will get older and slowly his friends
and fun will dwindle.
6. Idea three : "Home"
• The video would be more metaphorical. It would show the star has
worked hard to achieve his fame but lost people that meant a lot to
him along the way and he feels lonely at the top.
• The video could be green screened onto the moon to show how far
he is away from everyone but also the lengths he went to for his
career
• He could find a telescope that he peers into and sees his old life
again. Something he cant reach.
7. Idea four: "I'm a mess"
• The performer would be in their room crying, Make up running down
their face generally looking like a broken down mess. objects could
later begin to float move around the room before "delving into the
performers mind where their would be sharp, chaotic choreography
to simulate how crazy the performer is for someone's love.
8. Idea five: "I'm a mess"
• There would be two performers. One to simulate the actual person
and another to embody the 1st performers craziness. The video
would display the embodiment of craziness disturbing the persons
life to simulate the fact that she cant stop thinking about a guy when
she shouldn’t. The emotion would also play off of many different
social creations like "The monster under the bed" To create a slightly
more eerie and abstract video.
10. Summary
• 5 strengths of your ideas you could use
- Using different social creations as a method of creating emotions
- The idea of using a person as an entity (emotion, narration etc.)
- Specific choreography to reflect a mood or concept
- Flashbacks forwards to reveal a plot point or narrative.
- Using objects in obscure ways such as making them float.
• 5 weaknesses of you ideas
- To many psychological elements could be confusing
- Some of the "Home" ideas are cliché and uninteresting.
- Green screening the moon or any other ideas could be a tedious
process for something potentially poor in quality
11. Final idea – artist/title/info
• "I'm a mess"/ Bebe Rexha
• Bebe Rexha is an pop artist professionally singing and song writing
after signing with warner bros records in 2013.
• Rexha has written many songs for other large artists most notably
"The monster" for Eminem and Rhianna. She has also had success
writing for artists such as Iggy azalea, Martin garrix and
Selena Gomez
• Pop Music generally encompasses music that is popular and can vary
across an excess of styles.
12. Final idea – track summary
“I’m a mess.”
• The song reflects the artist going crazy for someone and presents this using
mental health as a narrative. This is represented by the choreography and
production elements.
• Shots transition very quickly
• The movements involved in the choreography are jittery, sharp and fast.
• Most of the video looks as if it is in an MH institute.
• Many abstract and “crazy facial expressions”
• In some shots, the artist is viewed in a broken-down state.
• Many close ups to present the detail in the face reflecting the concept.
• Quite an average – fast pace but the song sounds very sharp and hard.
13. Final idea – your idea
• Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation,
use of imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc]
• In The video I plan to show the overwhelming affects of Love and the
craziness the artist feels towards a specific person. The emotion
should be played by a performer who will be seen in the video in an
almost haunting like state. The performer will interrupt the "artist "
keeping them up at night, holding photos of a guy in there hands etc.
Before acting paranormal and the "artist" stands up to the craziness.
14. Final idea – techniques and styles
• Video techniques/style/conventions to be used [include how you
intend to implement these]
• Tilt shots – transition from the artistto the crazyness.
• More artisic, unrealistic style.
• Learn different cuts :

videographer-should-know/
15. Potential research targets
- Research different shots and when to use them
- Research different ways of cutting scenes
- Look at different housing to be used in filming. (Many scenes will take
place in a bedroom as of now).
- Figure out what equipment I will need for any lighting if nescasary
