2. Front Cover
Without being a huge sia fan you know that she uses a girl to
represent her.
The main image is of blonde hair, it is overexposed with the light
shining off the hair, although you can't see a face you can see the
outline of one so you know it is of a person
With there being no face it conforms with the artist's iconic image of
being hidden, it also illustrates the title of the album “1000 forms”
since the face is black anything could be hidden behind it.
Furthermore the text is in capitals and looks almost like chalk, this
could further reflect the title since you can wipe chalk away and write
it in a different form.
The color which dominates the cover is black which has dark
connotations such as death, similarly reflecting the title of the album.
With the cover being very minimalistic it entices the buyer to pick it
up since it has a sense of mystery which intrigues the buyer.
3. Back
The image is clearly of hair (same as the front cover), some parts of the
image are overexposed with the light reflecting off creating very white
patches but there is a patch at the bottom which has no light so you are
able to see the the real colour, you could infer that we eventually see Sias
true colours or that it reflects the album title 100 forms of fear, however in
this case it might be different sides to her. The hair appears as if it it has
been thrown on the floor rather than on someone's head which could
suggest that it is the end of this image, or that she is no longer fearful.
Barcode is out of the way on the left not taking up much space.
Record company's information is near the barcode, this gives recognition to
the company and also promotes the company themselves. If the buyer likes
this album they might like other music by the same record company.
The song list is in the right corner, aligned to the right taking up very little
space, you could infer that it is “hiding in the corner” which is what most
people do when they are scared, this further relates to the title of the CD.
The font of the text is the same as the front cover so it has a running
constant.
4. Disk
The disk is extremely simple with just the text of
the album's name, it is in the same font as the
rest so it links the whole album together ,
creating a house style.
The words of the title are broken up and placed
on a white background, the fact that they have
been separated could reflect Sias life.
The white background lines look like roads or
paths, two of which go half way across the disk
then stop which could be dead ends and one
long which goes to either side of the disk, this
could be the path to freedom.
The record companies information is also on the
CD
5. The black and white theme runs throughout the whole CD, it is almost like the good and the bad
contrasting with one another.
The font on the front cover and the font of the record company are the only two fonts used, which
brings the whole CD together and makes it feel as one.
Due to the CD being very plain and simple it reflects Sia herself and her personality. It also
reflects how she feels about her fame and the music industry, which is that no one should be
judged on their physical appearance - this is the main reason why she performs with a wig hiding
her face.
The overall feel of the CD is very mysterious from there being no face and then the title of the CD
“1000 forms of fear” which is intense, you can tell that the CD is going to be an emotional
rollercoaster from the get go.
This album is highly creative and very thought through, everything on this album has been done
for a particular purpose or reason, leading to the purchase of it.
