2. LINKIN PARK
REANIMATIONMAIN IMAGE:
This album is a remix of the
original album “Hybrid
Theory”. The picture used in
this front cover is of a flying
robot and this image is taken
from the original album.This
image is also seen in song
“somewhere I belong” from
album “meteora”.
LOGO:
The band logo is at the top of the
digipack and the album name is at the
bottom left. Both of them are shown
clearly which shows people clearly what
band or artist are they listening to.
The logo is written same as in linkin
park’s other videos which has the “N”
reversed. It is written in dull yellow color
which pops out on green background and
catches viewer’s attention. It is given a
little bit grainy texture and also the logo
looks 3d it is written in a rock like sans
serif text.
ALBUM NAME:
On the bottom right, the album name is
written in brackets. The color of brackets
is black and the background of text is
yellow which relates it to the band logo.
However the color black for text does
not makes it pop out as band logo.
In this red box it is written “5.1 mixes of all the tracks on
reanimation” where again reanimation is written ib bold and
bigger font size. These line are written to catch audience’s
attention and convince them to buy it. They have also
included making of the video which they have mentioned
over here also so that people know what they can expect
from this video other than songs.
3. The logo of “dvd” is placed at the
top of the album in white color
making it visible.
This line is written in red which kind of shows or is a
signal of warning. They say that the disc will only play
on the player with a dvd logo. That’s why they have
also placed dvd logo at the top.
The background is in dark
green color with a effect of
a splash under the main
image. It compliments the
colors of main image and as
the background is dull
which makes text and
image, both pop out.
4. There are same sort of robotic creatures inside the digipak as well. The robotic
solider which is on the right hand side is from the previous album “hybrid theory”
it was its front cover. This again creates a link between the first and second album
because this album is the remix of first album “the hybrid theory”.
The creatures are looking
like soliders wearing
soliders costume. They
also have wings and one is
holding a red flag. Also in
the background red
splashes of blood can be
noticed. Both of these
pictures of the inside of
digipak have a lot of
effects and textures.
INSIDE
5. This album was included among a group
of 15 DualDisc releases that were test
marketed in two cities: Boston and
Seattle. The DualDisc has the standard
album on one side, and the DVD-Audio
tracklisting on the second side. The
DualDisc version was not reissued after
the test market run.
On its cd we can see a picture of linkin park’s band members with a linkin park logo
on it, same as outside but in metallic silver color. The CD is given a red effect which
compliments the whole look of the digipak. The text “reanimation” written in black
also has a red background over here. On the left side a list of tracks can be seen
written in red and white. Also the same soldier is there holding a flag but its only
white outline. I believe that if they made the exact solider here with original colors
then it will catch audience’s attention and it will take time to notice the tracks
listed.
6. This is the original CD of this
album. Which is in red color
and have an outlied picture of
the solider. We can see a
diamond like pattern in the
background of the CD which
can be seen in other pictures
of this album including this
green background.
We can see splashes and cracks
kind of texture on this CD which
gives an image of a battle field.
7. At the back same kind of robots can
be seen that are on front. At the top
it says that the album is a collection
of remixes then the track numbers
and names of track are listed along
with the name of person who
remixed them. The color is dull
yellow which was on the frontside of
the album this makes a connection
between the front and backside.
Under the tracks the name of
producer is mentioned also it says
“bonus video footage…..” which is
written to attract audience. Also
people want to know this kind of
information before buying.
At the bottom, several record
labels are placed to show who
produced the album. A barcode can
be seen on bottom left of the
album.
SPINE
Same kind of typography is used
in the spine of the album to
show artists name and album
name when sold in the shops.
Also we can see a logo on the
spine as well.

9. TITLE:
The use of white for the title
makes it stand out from the
background, with the use of
paint linking to the use of a
famous painting for the
background. The title has been
painted on quite roughly and
some of the letters overlap
although they are still clear to
read. Even though the title is
quite large and has been
painted over the centre, the
background image is still clear.
MISC EN SCENE:
The front cover of the Digipak for
Coldplays album Viva La Vida is
made up of an image adapted by
the band themselves. The main
image is a 1830's painting by Eugene
Delacroix 'Liberty Leading the
People'. The historic painting
depicts the french revolution of
July and a Lady leading the
revolution holding a gun in her left
and the French flag aloft in her
right. She is the personification of
freedom and liberty, leading the
people over the fallen bodies. these
themes of liberty and freedom are
also explored in the songs of the
album. The phrase 'Viva la vida'
translates 'live the life' and I think
that the Spanish title played some
part in the creation of the album
artwork. Also, lyrically there are
references to love, life, death and
war which the painting quite clearly
reflects.
It shows people holding the flag which
reflects their victory. This talks about the
narrative of the song which is “ruling the
world”. The French flag shows that it
appeals to an international audience.
Also “viva la vida” is in Spanish which
means that this song will be famous
worldwide, which it was.
Coldplay looked to gain
mainstream audience with
this song which can be
emphasized by the
streetwise graffiti kind of
style of title.
10. AUDIENCE:
After looking at the maturity of cover and quote we can say that
the targeted audience is 18+. I think that this front cover will
attract more older audience then younger teens because its
more appealing and the history behind the painting and quote
will attract much more older generation.
There is no bands name on the album which indicates that they
are already a well recognized band or people will be curious
about the band behind the cover.
This can also indicate that cold play is looking for a more mature
audience.
11. INSIDE LEFT:
This side has four square action
shots in black and white (one of
each band member), allowing the
consumer to see that they are a
playing band. This is used to
represent the band in an artistic
style that represents their style
within the genre.
The use of black and white
images follows the colour scheme
throughout the digipak. This side
is also a wallet that contains a
booklet, showing images of 9
abstract paintings that the band
created which have been
influenced by the tracks on this
album. This creates a visual for
most of the tracks and portrays
the song lyrics. The action shots
have been taken at various angles
making them more eye catching
and interesting to look at.
COLORS:
The use of black and white images follows the colour
scheme throughout the digipak.
12. INSIDE RIGHT:
The right inside
cover features a very
similar style to the back
with the plain flat black
background and the gold
text featuring the artist
name and album name.
The right side and back of
the cover is kept very
simple maybe because the
main cover is too busy.
The Serif font used is old
looking is very simple and
not stylish again I feel that
old generation will be more
attracted to this digipak.
and reflects the time
period of the
painting 'Liberty Leading
the People'. The font size is
fairly small but the gold
colour makes it stand out
from the background. The
writing is central to the
page and therefore looks
neat and clear, and is
written all in capitals
although the first letter of
every word is bigger and
this again is used as a way
to catch peoples eye. This
side is also a wallet which
holds the CD.
13. The back is very similar to the
inside right wallet. The same
font, size and colour has been
used for the track listing to
tie the digipak together and
keep the continuity. Directly
below the track listing there
is the tag line which state the
record label and copyright
details as well as the release
year and the bands website.
Again all this information is
central on the back which also
has a black background.
At the bottom the Parlophone record label logo is
positioned central just above the bar code, and is
extremely small in size. However the logo also
appear on the spine along with the band name and
album title in the same gold font.
The cd of this album goes
with the insides of the
album which is very plain
with a golden sans serif
text on it to make it
stand out on black.
BACKSIDE, CD and SPINE:
15. FRONTSIDE:It is the opening track and
lead single from the band's
second album, Nevermind.
LOGO:
The font is same as in other nirvana’s digipaks.
They have used their original logo. It is serif font
in blue color. This blue color play a special role
and is used intentionally. This album’s main
theme is blue, we can also see water in the
backdrop of the logo. The logo is in dark blue
colors which pops out on light blue surface. It is
so big that it covers half of the digipak. Also it is
in bold color. All these factors support it in
looking eye catchy to the audience. Also this
shows that they have given more importance or
have emphasized the name of their band as
compared to the song title.
This looks clear so the audience knows what band they are listening to.
16. MISC EN SCENE:
The frontcover has a dark blue border kind of
which compliments the color of the logo. Then
we can see light blue picture of water under
the picture and text. As this is also blue so the
color of text looks good on it also as it is dark it
pops out.
Then we can see a picure of three band
members including the lead singer kurt cobain.
The picture is very blurry and the faces cannot
be seen. This picture is taken from the video of
“smells like teen spirit”. I think they have
intentionally used a blur picture because in the
video they are jumping and singing with full
energy which also justifies the “teen spirit”
part of the title. There faces are also not clear
in the video because it is not in high resolution
and they are jumping and performing. So this
makes a relation between the cover and the
song.
Then there is the title of the song written under the
picture with the same font of the logo. However the
kerning of the font is increased in the song title where
as the logo looks tight compared to the title of the
song.
17. CD:
There are 2 CD covers of this album. In the first one we can see
the same picture of water. In the center there is again a picture
of band members which is also burred. This is also taken from
the music video of “smells like teen spirit”. this makes a clear
connection between the front cover and the CD
This is the original CD of the album. We can see the
picture of water is printed on the whole CD. Then same
logo of nirvana in same font just in black color is placed
on top of the CD. This black color makes it pop out more
on light blue background. On the sides of the CD some
text is written which is not clear in the picture. Also a
signature can be seen im sure it’s a signature. Then below
it we can see some record labels. At the end of the CD we
can see the name of the song “smells like teen spirit” and
I think it’s the same name written in different languages.
If so then this album will in demand internationally as
well.
18. BACK :
This is the backside of the digipak which looks similar
to the front and cd which is again the picture of
water on half upper side on which the name of the
song is written and also some previous unreleased
songs.
Then on the lower side which is black we can see
some text written which shows the names of
producers and writers.
Then the address is written under it the
credits of photography, design etc are given.
No barcode is seen though. Also a logo can be
seen which is “DGC” I think.
19. Spine:
This the horizontal view of the spine of the album. Where a barcode can be seen.
Then the lgo of “DGC” company which was also present on the backside of the
digipak. Then the name of the song can be seen.
