Who Would The Audience Of Your Media Product Be?
The main audience of our media product would be teenagers above
the age of 15. This is because if we were to fully develop the product
more it would be too scary and gory for younger audiences. However
it would not be so gory that it could be classified as an 18 as the film
holds an important message as it shows how badly some people are
bullied and what it causes them to do in order to escape from it;
commit suicide. It is also illustrates how much a sibling will do for
their brother/sister which, although it is an extreme example, some
teenagers may feel some kind of empathy with, even if only a small
amount, if they feel protective and/or responsible for their siblings,
both younger and older. Another reason for it being targeted at this
age range is that all of the characters within our short film are
teenagers and so it is much easier for younger audiences to connect
with the characters and really get into the film, whereas older
audiences are more likely to be become bored with the characters
and story line a lot quicker.
Younger audiences are also more likely to seek the thrill or
adrenaline rush that comes with a horror film rather than older
audiences. Younger audiences seem to have more of a fascination
with the art of horror films and the idea of scaring each other, they
gain personal amusement and satisfaction at scaring their friends or
family in the ways portrayed in films. This is simply the sense of
humor that many young adults possess as they have grown up
around these films and have watched them evolve.
