2. WHY UNIVERSAL?
We have chosen universal to distribute our film
because they are a global company with large
funding which would allow a big budget for our film
and the ability to distribute our product worldwide as
we feel it appeals to a large target audience and this
would increase revenue. Universal also has
experience distributing similar products as they have
distributed the American pie franchise which we
believe our product shares many conventions with
and could achieve similar success with the backing of
Universal due to their understanding of the genre.
3. HOW GRADUATION FOLLOW
GENRE CONVENTIONS
We researched into the genre to find the conventions of the narrative and
what conventions made films successful, for this we researched three
successful teen comedies; Superbad, American pie and Mean girls. From
this research we found typical narrative conventions include
parties, alcohol, sex, losing virginity social cliques and relationships. We also
found that most are set in high schools/college or parties, so we have set
ours at both high school and at a big high school party. We have also tried to
incorporate most of the successful conventions into our narrative.
4. WOULD GRADUATION APPEAL
TO THE TARGET AUDIENCE?
We believe that graduation will appeal to its target
audience as we have followed the conventions of
successful teen comedies. It also contains crude
humour which is a vital element of teen comedies
and the characters are of similar age to the target
audience which means the audience should be able
to relate to the characters as well as the settings
and situations which are typical of teenagers. We
believe with the help of Universal, Graduation could
turnover huge profits similarly seen with the
American pie franchise and we also believe there
would be opportunity for a sequel if successful.
5. PLOT AND CAST
The plot revolves around 3 socially awkward high school nerds;
Adam, Eddy and George who are approaching the end of the school
year and are trying to make it to the ‘cool’ end of year graduating party
in order to gain more social status and impress the popular girls in the
hopes of losing their virginities. Eddy also sees it as the last opportunity
to talk to his crush of 5 years whom he has never told how he feels.
