Evaluation Question - 5
How did you attract/address your audience?
When it came to addressing my audience, I wanted to take inspiration
from other magazines such as Kerrang. Their approach attracts the
same type of audience that I would want. They use informal language
and effective techniques to attract their audience. The average age is
22, the magazine attracts an audience aged 17-24 year olds and they
are predominantly male.
My target audience is 15-25 year olds and is predominantly male,
therefore using Kerrang as a similar approach would be effective.
Front Cover
● Firstly, I used a bold masthead to make
it eye catching on a store shelf. The
bright colour scheme of red, black,
yellow and white will attract readers and
makes it distinctive. The magazine
speaks to the audience by asking
questions, such as “What happened to
Mitchel Sauer?”. The magazine speaks
to the audience which will make a reader
feel involved and may attract to even
buy the magazine. The footer also helps
to attract the ready by advertising free
posters which may interest the readers.
It helps to draw the reader in and see
what else is in the magazine. The image
of Mitchel on the cover attracts the
reader by the clothes that he is wearing
Contents Page
● On my contents page I included a
competition of winning a free CD
which attracts the reader to
participate. I included the stories
that the readers would be
interested in as to entice them to
buy it if they look to see what is in
the magazine. I included new,
features and live reviews as
readers like to be involved in the
magazine. By including the social
media at the bottom of the
contents page it could try and
involve the reader more by using
the social media.
Double Page Spread
● The most obvious way of addressing
the audience in my article was the
mode of address. It was a fist person
exclusive interview, and therefore
there is use of informal vocabulary
which creates an informal tone. It
attracts the younger reader as it
creates a relaxed atmosphere. In the
article, there is information about
when Mitchel's album is being
released and this will appeal to
Mitchel's fans or readers who want
to find out about his music. Readers
could use the image of Mitchel as a
poster which would also appeal to
the reader as it means that the page
is multipurpose.
