A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Question 5
1. HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ ADDRESS
YOUR AUDIENCE?
Question 5
2. When constructing my magazine I chose to use a
mixture of magazines like billboard, NME and Q to
create my magazine. This would help me in its layout
mainly. My target audience is 15-25 which helped refine
the content of the magazine to what my target audience
really likes and prevent myself from being generic in the
construction. I knew that my magazine had to look
attractive and be entertaining and informative to be
effective. Which I believe I achieved in my magazine
and I have also been effective in techniques I have used
to attract my target audience, like informal language, the
way artists are dressed and promoting the social and
online side of my brand.
3. COVER PAGE
Firstly I wanted to create a bold masthead to make
it eye-catching. I used bright colours of red, yellow,
black and blue to make the font stand out on the
page. I used the blue graphic to separate the sell
lines but then I have also used the colour blue on
the right hand side to make it stand out.
The language I have used makes the reader feel
involved and that they are being spoken to as I
have used “your” to make sure they do feel
involved. This will hopefully attract the readers as
they feel involved.
The pug also helps attract the reader as it
advertises being able to win tickets to see a very
popular female band Little Mix. This helps attract
my target audience as many would love the
opportunity of wining tickets to see them.
The image of Tom on the front page should also
attract the female audience because of the clothes
he is wearing and also the look he is giving to the
camera which helps connect with the audience.
4. CONTENTS PAGE
I maintained the masthead to be sure that readers are
fully aware all the way through the magazine of what they
are reading. I have also included the web address and
social media on this page to attract my target audience of
technophiles. It also reinforces that this magazine is a
multi platform brand and corresponds to the increase of
technology in the magazine industry.
The models used again are there to represent the
younger generation in what they wear and also are in the
target audience age range. As my target audience was
mainly females I have tried to use models which are
attractive and well dressed to attract them into looking
and then hopefully buying the magazine. By the poses of
the main artist in this issue Tom shows a connection with
the reader as he directly looks into the camera.
The subscription aspect to my magazine would also
attract my audience as they are able to get the magazine
on a regular basis and don’t even have to go out the
house to get it which is good as sometimes they can be
extremely busy with school work, part time jobs and even
jobs and not be able to have time to go out and get the
magazine when it is released each week.
I have also included a reviews section which would
appeal to the audience as they are able to get the facts of
the top songs this week but would also be able to get
editors point of view within that aspect of the magazine.
The information included on festivals would appeal to my
target audience as many enjoy going to festivals with
their friends to listen to their favourite artists an d have
fun with their friends so being informed of which ones are
best would help them out in deciding which one or ones
they would like to attend.
5. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
The way of attracting my audience was the mode
of address of the article. It was a question and
answer interview which meant the answers would
be using vocabulary such as “yeah” which
creates an informal tone. This attracts the
younger audience as it is more relaxed and toned
down. It also humanises the artist, helps the
audience to relate to him and feel empathy
giving him a voice in the interview.
The pull quote I have used also portrays just by
giving the article a quick glance that he has been
through some rough times during his life which
created sympathy for him and also leaves the
audience wanting to read more to find out what
he has been through. This reflects the hardship
of growing up and many of the audience would
relate to something similar he has gone through
which attracts the audience. The honesty within
the article also shows that he is an artist the
audience and trust.
